Overview & Reviews
A relative newcomer to the American marketplace, Hyundai is a Korean automaker with a product line that has improved greatly over the past decade. Hyundai cars and SUVs provide a high level of content for an affordable price, and are currently backed by one of the industry's longest warranties.
In 1947, Chung Ju Yung founded the Hyundai Civil Engineering Company. Mere months later, the outfit was bombed in the Korean War. However, the company regained its footing to distinguish itself as one of Korea's leading construction enterprises during the 1950s.
By the late 1960s, Chung had turned his attention to the automobile industry. The Korean government at that time believed that it made more sense to import vehicles than produce them domestically, and had made its opinion known. Still, Chung opted to follow his own convictions, and in 1967, he founded the Hyundai Motor Company.
The company quickly established an alliance with one of the industry's oldest automakers, signing a two-year contract with Ford in 1968 to share assembly technology. Hyundai's first car, the Cortina, was created from that partnership. The manufacturer's first car to be designed and built in Korea was the compact Pony (although the car was based on Japanese technology courtesy of Mitsubishi). The vehicle made its debut in 1974, and the following year Hyundai began exporting it to overseas markets.
Hyundai entered the U.S. market in 1986 with the introduction of its subcompact Excel. The car was an immediate hit, with its supreme affordability being a primary selling point. More than 100,000 Excels were sold stateside in the first seven months. By 1988, Hyundai had begun to produce cars using its own technology. The midsize Sonata was the first fruit borne of this endeavor.
Unfortunately, Hyundai's nascent image was soon tarnished by the poor durability and reliability of its vehicles. Sales tanked. However, rather than abandon the American market in the '90s, Hyundai chose to invest heavily in new product designs and improvements in overall quality and reliability. In 1998, Hyundai also purchased Kia, another Korean automaker, to expand its business and economies of scale.
It all started to pay off by the start of the new millennium, with the 2001 Elantra in particular showing massive improvements in overall quality, reliability and performance. Other models followed suit and the desirability of Hyundai cars increased sharply. Providing an extraordinarily long warranty period didn't hurt either.
Today's lineup is indicative of Hyundai's complete turnaround. Hyundai has a vehicle for nearly every segment, including the economical Accent subcompact, the popular Elantra compact, the midsize Sonata sedan (also available as a hybrid), sporty Genesis and Veloster coupes and a couple of stylish SUVs. Hyundai has also expanded into the entry-level and premium-level luxury sedan markets with its Genesis and Equus sedans. Having gone from being the butt of late-night TV jokes in the 1980s to a well-respected manufacturer of quality vehicles, Hyundai has created a very inspiring rags-to-riches story.

Tucson GLS Best Car we ever had - 2011 Hyundai TUCSON
By tucsongls - February 16 - 3:54 pmIris blue with black tint is the sharpest looking vehicle. The exterior and interior design is brilliant. The Tucson drives extreemly well and the handling is better than the corolla we previously had. Love the AWD that only kicks in when needed (or when you press the button to engage it full time). The bluetooth works very well and was easy to pair two phones in a minute. The dealer was willing to deal and we ended up getting two extra years of warrenty thrown in (to bring it to 7 full years). We also got a price reduction equal to the undercoating and paint protection. Plus it came with a 1200 litre gas card. The real bonus is the 0% financing for 72 months!

GPS System - 2011 Hyundai TUCSON
By sand1042 - February 15 - 3:08 amThe desgin of the GPS in this car is very bad. You cant use in the daylight. It has the back-up camera but its worthless during the day. A true waste of our money for this package. Other than that we really like the car.

Great Car 4 Its Class - 2000 Hyundai Elantra
By HAILU - February 15 - 2:00 amMost consumers only based their car buying trend just by known brand names of car prouduct lines,Hyundai proved them worng. This cheap in price but great in performance even better than known compitators i.e Honda civic, Toyota Corolla etc.powerful engine (140hp)which is much powerful than the Toyota corolla CE(125hp).I have this car now for about 6 month and havent seen any problem on it. I will advice America to turn their face for buying such economical and reliable cars with out digging in to their pockets for simillar even lesser cars just because they have stayed on the market for long but their quality going south.

Loved. Bought. Now regret. - 2013 Hyundai Veloster
By John - February 14 - 7:36 pmI have a 2013 VT. If I knew then I would be financing a problem, I would have settled for some other hatch with decent MPG. 1st, the car rattles and creaks like its not screwed, glued or assembled properly. Get used to it. The rear hatch rattle is MOST LIKELY the rear spoiler nuts coming loose. Put some locktite on them and it should work. 2nd, be prepared to return the car MANY times for the factory stereo having issues. The paper speakers will tear, the dust cap (silver center) will come unglued, and the dealership will only glue it back together. Be ready for that. 3rd, expect the transmission to give you some times when it decides to do what it wants to do. Sometimes shift smoothly, sometimes shift abruptly. Dealership says its normal, and theres no issues. 4th, A/C control switch has issues. Mine at about 12,000 miles would not work on #2. Fine on #1 and #3, but to get #2 to work you had to hold it in between #2 and #3 position. Had it changed twice before 50,000 miles. 5th, My turbo went out at 64,500 miles. With cruise control set at 70mph on the interstate my turbo went out. Bearings started to make howling noises and the car had NO power. Took the car to a Hyundai dealer in Baton Rouge (on Hwy 61) and I was told "Its over-filled with oil, just drain a little, and it will be fine". Ha Ha Ha! Really? Took it to another dealership and they said the car has issues and they diagnosed it to be the turbo had a cracked shaft and bad bearings. Now, I am under 72,000 miles and the bearings are starting to make the noise again. Dont do regular maintenance on this car. Do PREVENTATIVE maintenance as well. I doubt I will make it to 100k on this car. I was informed its because it is a 2013 and that it has been straightened out by Hyundai for the later years. Good thing this is my last Hyundai, I wouldnt want to spend the time and money to test that theory. *IF* this car had those issues above fixed, Id say this car is worth each and every penny spent. Its quick, nimble, and a fun car to drive. Especially quick....FOR A HYUNDAI! I LOVE the sound systems audible performance. This is one of the best factory sound systems I have heard yet, better than the Bose in my Escalade. If you want one, buy used. I cant even trade this car in, they only offer HALF of what I owe. Ive seen some 13s for under $10k. Do yourself a favor, buy used or get a different hatch.

skeptical at first, but very happy - 2006 Hyundai Sonata
By shann - February 14 - 8:10 amI have had hondas, fords and my last car was a nissan sentra, I wanted something more roomy and with more power and i found it. At first I was skeptical about getting a hyundai, but it was more car that fit my budget and it has proved me wrong. I would suggest this car to anyone, and this is just a base model and it has more features then a the honda 2006 base.

I LOVE HYUNDAIS - 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe
By ep - February 14 - 1:40 amThis is my 2nd Hyundai and I will never buy another another make of vehicle again. I have NEVER had one problem with my Santa Fe and never had a problem with the Elantra that I owned prior. The reliability cannot be matched by any american vehicle(Im sorry to say) The standard and safety features are great and so is the warranty. The SUV could be a little larger and the seats could be a little more comfortable too. I bought the automatic 4cyl. instead of the 6 cyl. because they get better gas mileage but I have noticed that sometimes it seems you really have to put the pedal to the medal to accelerate fast. But overall this is a wonderful SUV that I would recommend to anyone and everyone.

No Problem with gas mileage - 2006 Hyundai TUCSON
By Im Happy - February 13 - 6:43 pmI had my heart set on a new 07 Honda CRV and liked the way it drove and looked but I simply could not justify paying $7000 more for the Honda with less accessories and warranty. While I feel that the Hyundai has a less sophisticated drive train than the Honda, in all other respects it meets or exceeds Honda quality. On the issue of MPG I have seen reviews where the owners were disappointed but I did a first check fill up and combined city/hgwy yielded 23.9 MPG which I feel is very acceptable for an SUV with a V6.

This is a Hyundai?!? - 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
By Cruizin3 - February 13 - 2:46 pmIf you are looking at this car, make sure you drive the track model. I drove the touring and liked it, but the Track Model blew me away. I first looked at the 2.0t. i liked the power, but thought it needed a little more. Should be an easy fix for anyone willing to make a couple changes, but I prefer my warranty. The 3.8 has plenty of power to spare though. Turn the traction control off and the rear end swings out easily. The car picks up great and the throaty growl of the engine is awesome when you get on the gas. There is minimal body roll and the car stays composed as you fly around the corners. The big 4 caliper Brembos scrub off the speed in a hurry too.

A Luxury Hyundai? Who Knew? - 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe
By skg - February 13 - 9:10 amIve been a minivan driver for 10 years, but this year upgraded to my first "luxury" car. Ive always been ambivalent about cars -- just get me to and from and Im happy. But I love this car! It rides like an absolute dream. Most recently I had a used 2001 Odyssey that I have to say, I hated. It was never that comfortable and I had a devil of a time figuring out the panel. My husband had an Elantra I took over but wanted something bigger for kids, groceries, etc. and got the 7 seater. This car is total luxury, great ride, beautiful. I admit, I havent taken it on the highway yet, but I think itll make any trip more enjoyable.
