  • Tensioner/Alternator/stops going 60mph - 2001 Hyundai XG300

Like the car, get compliments on styling and comfort. Unfortunately had to replace the tensioners and belts 3 times (tensioners chew the belts badly), replaced the alternator at 50,000. Have had a shudder when going from high speeds to slowly down at ramps or traffic slows suddenly. Have 98,000 miles on it and now going at 60 mph, the car engines just stops. Next thing I will be killed because of this. The dealerships service is bad, cant find anything wrong - I take it to my regular mechanic who fixes it. Service means save the dealership money customer spends it elsewhere. Oh, yes, the paint started peeling after 2 years on the driver side running board. Not their problem.

  • Expensive to Maintain - 2001 Hyundai XG300

I bought this car new in 2001 and I called it a "Poor Mans Lexus." The initial quality was rock solid but I had to replace the transmission at 90k and Hyundai pcked up the cost. I had the shuddering thing happening that someone mentioned in an earlier posting. Everything else (alternater, brakes, water pump, etc...) was very expensive to fix becuase you can only get genuine Hyundai parts. The check engine light comes on quite a bit and it is always something with this car. It seems to be very sensitive and the oil and oxygen sensors are always turning that damn light back on! Now I was told that it needs to have the catalitic converters ($3,000)replaced so it is time for me to get rid of it.

  • So far so good... - 2001 Hyundai XG300

We looked at and drove many other similar cars: taurus, camry, etc... but broke down and looked at the Hyundai because of its looks, pricing, warranty, and 0 percent interest rate at the time. We were most impressed with all aspects of the car. We were the unhappy owners of a new 98 Malibu: in the shop 20 times in 3 years. We have not had no trouble with the XG in 7000 miles. We want a car that we can drive the wheels off of, and so far this car is promising.

I looked at Hyundai because of the warranty...and I fell in love with the leather seats, luxury features, and smooth ride for the great price. However, Ive been disappointed with the paint job, the fuel economy with the lack of pick up, and looking at trade in value...yikes! I like my XG, but I think Ill go back to Toyota for my next car.

  • XG300L...Jurys still out by Kiki - 2001 Hyundai XG300

Have had to return the Dealer numerous times. Not sure how much of the problem is Charlie Thomas or Hyundai. Took a year to get part of the exterior trim replaced. Still cant get them to fix my outside mirrors. The option to have them lower while in reverse does not always work. Sometimes they do not return to the programed position.

  • Reliable and Luxurious - 2001 Hyundai XG300

I had purchased this car new in September of 2001. The current mileage on my XG is about 42K. I can honestly say that this is car has been the most reliable car that I have ever owned. While putting aside routine scheduled maintenance, this car has only been serviced 2 times. The 1st problem I had was that the glove box light would not go off when it was closed. The 2nd problem I had was the transmission shuttering, which was mentioned in some of the other reviews. The problem was a faulty trans. sensor which was replaced at 25k miles. The trans currently operates perfectly normal. Overall, this is a great car for the money and would definitely conside buying another one from Hyundai.

  • Love my XG - 2001 Hyundai XG300

I had never even seen one of these until I saw the ad for mine online. My car had broken and instead of repairing it, I purchased this one at $5,800 which given the condition of the vehicle I thought was more than fair. I love the way it looks on the outside. The front grill looks like it was designed by Lincoln, and the rear reminds me a little of the acura 2.1 CL or even a jag! The interior makes you feel like youre riding in luxury as well. I had the same problem with the trans. sensor but was a quick fix. Other than that I am satisfyed with the XG. For my money it doesnt get much better. Now that I have it I find myslef noticing how great other hyundais are! Those guys make nice cars!

  • A Korean driving a Korean - 2001 Hyundai XG300

The car is mostly great. As far as reliability, I have no complaints. However, it could use more horses and less fuel usage. I had to return to dealerships to have few plastic pieces replaced. Initially, the front passenger side headrest was not stiched properly and was replaced. Overall minor quality control problems, but engine and transmission has proven to be reliable. I just had 30k major service, which was a shocker since the service fee varied from $300 w/ coupon to $850 in various dealerships. Still, I do enjoy the ride in my car. PS: My Michellin OEM tire wore out at 29500 miles and needed replacing.

Two times had check engine light come on,one they changed throttle body, the other they said they changed spark plugs. From the day we brought the car the radio reception was poor at best. They also said they changed it ,but my name was still on radio when I got car back.Driver window, when closing door, also sticks open preventing door from closing leaving light on.Tires wore out rapidly needing replaced early. And last rims pitted, deteriorated needing replaced.

  • Hugs the ground - 2001 Hyundai XG300

Going 70 mph, in order to avoid another car,the choice was go down an embankment, or go into a fishtail. The car hugged the ground tight, never feeling like it was going to flip. It did a 360, coming to a stop on the shoulder. I KNOW the weight & stability of this car saved our lives, so the lower gas milege I get because of it is well worth it!
