Model Overview:

A compact crossover SUV, the Hyundai Tucson is aimed at buyers seeking the tall ride height and cargo convenience of a utility vehicle in a small, affordable package. Introduced for the 2005 model year, the Tucson has always offered a generous list of standard equipment and a lengthy warranty.

Although early versions of this Hyundai crossover have a decidedly budget feel, 2010 and later Tucsons have distinctive exterior styling and a slick interior to match. Acceleration and handling are also much better on the newer models, and fuel economy is significantly improved. Recent Tucson models are worth consideration if you're shopping for a used small crossover.

  • Most Worthless Best Built Vehicle - 2005 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

If youre looking for a vehicle that will get you 8 - 12 MPG City and no more than 21 Hwy (at 60 MPH), a concealed cargo area of no more than 8.4 cubic feet, tepid acceleration and a slow shifting transmission, the Tucson is for you. This is one of the most useless vehicles I have ever seen. You cant carry anything over 15" tall under the parcel shelf (or 24" deep with the back seats up). Four people can not take a Tucson on a trip and hide their valuables. In real world driving, a 350 HP Escalade gets better gas mileage than this underpowered piece of crap. It is however, extremely well built. If you want great build quality with no cargo space and pathetic MPG, this ones for you.

  • Cheap tires - 2006 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

I am writing to warn others. I have 28,600 miles on my original tires and had to be replaced today. I am disappointed in the quality of the tires on this vehicle and live and learn, I will look into this the next time I buy a car. So buyer be ware! If they are under warranty, I bet I would play ---- getting anything out of the company. I have read other reviews about this and now I can confirm it.

  • Great Starter SUV - 2007 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

I drove about 7 vehicles from my list (I did some homework before shopping) and kept coming back to the Tucson. It had everything I wanted. It was small, stylish and plenty of get up and go. I drove the 4cyl and 6cyl versions. I lucked into a sweetheart of a deal on a 2007 Limited. It has all the bells and whistles I could ever want. If youre considering an SUV, do not write the Tucson off just because its a "Hyundai." Its the smoothest riding, zippy, most fun to drive car Ive ever had. My only bad thing to say is if youre concerned about todays gas prices, this is not your car. I average 18.6--which is good compared to sticker--but at $4 gallon...

  • Unsafe acceleration from dead stop - 2016 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

As Rusty_Blades has stated in an earlier review (and Ive replied to the same), My Tucson as delivered has an issue with acceleration from a dead-stop that is both annoying an potentially dangerous. Ive only had the car less than a week and havent been able to talk to service about this yet, so hopefully there is now a fix, Ill update this review when I find out. The problem is that the car starts to accelerate on its own as soon as you take your foot off the pedal, this seemed a bit odd when I test drove it, but I was so impressed with its performance as highway speed that I purchased it just the same. I wish I had taken Rustys advice and tried to parallel park it during the test drive. When I tried this a day after I purchased it the buyers remorse really started to kick-in hard. Im sure Hyundai will come up for a fix for this if they havent already, but until I can get this fixed this stays at a 2-star review. My other main beef with this car is that the head rest cant be adjusted far enough back for my comfort, I may have to take it apart and try to come up with a way of further adjusting it. Otherwise, I think Id be super happy with this car, it is very quiet, smooth as silk at highway speed, and Peppy with a capital P.

I did and you should, too. It is the most fun Ive had driving a vehicle. Not too big, not too small.

  • Traded Mustang for an SUV, and not disappointed - 2016 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

What? Traded in a Mustang for an SUV and not disappointed? How can that be you ask? Well first off you cant compare the two, one is pure American muscle rumbling down the highway sucking down gas blowing the doors off other cars. Will it beat a Mustang off the line? Uh no, of course not. Is it as flashy and eye catching as the Mustang? Again no. Are strangers going to come up to me at the gas station and tell me how much they like my car, eh probably not. So why am I so happy with my Tuscon? Three reasons, performance, convenience, and size. Im sure its also a lot safer than my old Mustang but lets focus on those other three. In terms of performance, as I said its not a Mustang. Its an SUV. The Tuscon is a peppy little guy, the 1.6L Turbo is a huge difference over the 2.4L non-Turbo in the base model. Put it in sport mode and it can really get up and go. Gets up to freeway speeds just fine, has no trouble at all. Havent really used the eco mode, I tend to keep it in normal or in Sport when I want a little extra zest. The 7 speed automatic manual transmission deal they got going on is really nice. Much better than the CVT stuff other manufacturers are using. Its a new trans so hopefully it holds up to the test of time. Thats where the warranty comes in, if it has problems Im covered for 100,000 miles. Now when it comes to convenience, you get all the gadgets and gizmos you would expect on a 2016, and with Hyundai you get a lot more than others. Bluetooth, touch screen radio, back up camera, all standard on the Eco (the middle tier trim level). The controls are all right there on the steering wheel and it is all intuitive. No need to read the manual to figure out what things do. So what about size? Im not a small guy (6 foot and weigh more than I should). I fit just fine. Plenty of room to drive in comfort. I havent really sat in the back seat, but thats for the kids so who cares. Speaking of the kids, they really like how the back seats actually recline a bit. Something our Kia does not do. And while talking about the Kia there is definitely more cargo room in the back than in my Sportage. The best thing about size, is the overall size. Its not a huge SUV. It drives like a car, and parks like one but there is still room for a family of 4 and our giant dog to ride in the very back.

  • Tucson V-6 MPG must be improved - 2006 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

The Tucson V-6 has a lot going for it. Easy to drive, responds well, comfortable ride and leads in having the best warranty. For a small SUV it is one of the few that has a design that works for taller people. Too bad they didnt do their homework on providing better mpg. If great mpg is an objective, the Tucson is not for you. You will be disappointed. Consumers look to smaller SUVs to provide great gas mileage. Hyundai failed to respond to consumers. If Hyundai could provide an engine that gets great mpg this SUV would go to the top of its class.

  • First SUV - 2006 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

First I would say that I am a car nut, I try to get the best buy for the money. I bought my Tuson after looking at all the models in my price field. Beings this vehicle was new this year I had doubts about it as I would with any new model. A few weeks after purchase the wife and I took a trip to Fla. and back a total of over 3000 miles. I am one who likes to check and keep track of the mileage and during this trip we averaged just a little less then 24mpg. Since the Fla. trip we have ventured to Colo. and another trip to Niagara Falls and the mileage has picked up a bit. So far the best has been 26.2. With the vehicle itself it has been perfect as has been the dealership.

  • The Best Compact SUV - 2005 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

Ive droven probably all of the compact SUVs out there, and this car is probably the best of the best, beating Toyota, Honda, and Ford. It has the best ride, best quality (interior and exterior fit&finish and well as materials), best design, and best handling. It rides very well, is quiet and very refined.
