The looks are what get you to the dealership right? In its market space, the redesigned Tucson is sleeker than everything else. The exterior looks futuristic without being over the top. The interior is wonderfully laid out and minus being unable to get my seat JUST right (the headrests are simply odd) and maybe a few too many blind spots, it is knockdown awesome. But then you drive it. During the test drive you can feel a bit of sluggishness coming off the line, and you are reminded by the salesperson that this car comes with a fancy "dual clutch transmission". So you think, "well, brand new car, probably something I can get used to". But you cant get used to it. You cant get used to driving a stick without it being a stick. You cannot get used to the rules having a dual clutch transmission comes with ("dont creep up on the car in front of you in traffic, wait until there is some space and then pull forward". Seriously?). But you bought it and you just think that over time everything will be ok. And then comes the gear stalls. When you are in first gear and the DCT doesnt engage second gear, but the computer thinks it did so now your in some odd wonderland between first and second, sort of gliding (or stalling is more like it). And if you stomp on the accelerator, nothing happens....youve got to "tap, tap tap" the gas pedal and get third gear to engaged. And after you shut the car off for a bit and come back, its like nothing ever happened and the dealership just claims ignorance. Its really unfortunate to lose as much money as I will when I offload this and go to something else, but I feel less and less safe every time I drive it.

  • Fun to drive - 2016 Hyundai TUCSON

The outward appearance of the 2016 Tucson caught my eye first. I then found the interior equally appealing. The warranty is definitely one of the best around so took it for a test drive. I instantly noticed how quiet it was~impressive. Nice comfortable quiet ride. A real pleasure to drive. I had never had. Hyundai before, was trading in a crv. I wanted another suv but wanted something different than what I had previously owned yet wanted a reliable efficient and comfortable vehicle. The Tucson beat out all the others I looked at including ones costing much more. I am very happy with my choice and am enjoying being a new Hyundai customer .

Very nice ride and quiet is the reason I purchased this. This vehicle offered things my other suv did not have. I was getting ready to re purchase a mazda cx5. the tucson has rear air vent, rear seat heaters. Front air ventilated seats along with heat. Blind spot monitor is nice. Panoramic sunroof is nice. Nice pick up with Turbo. Nice split screen with Nav and radio. Beautiful styling in my opinion. A few negatives, Automatic tailgate lift when you get behind it would go off just walking behind it. I turned it off along with lane departure warning. Hard plastic on interior door panels even tho nice interior. I miss the 3 D function of the navigation my Mazda had. On a bright sunny day hard to read temp gauges they get a little washed out. People talked about duo transmission having a little lag but was not an issue with me. All in All a very nice ride. I like it very much.

At any milage this car can fail to start after a stop including while waiting to make a left turn into traffic. You will be told it isnt broken so it cant be fixed, they never heard of this issue before, you are not driving properly. Hyundai knows about this issue, many "tickets" have been opened ,they are "stonewalling". Check out other blogs, so far I have counted 90 people who have had this transmission issue and I suspect that is a fraction of what the total will be.

  • Our Tuscon is a Lemon! - 2016 Hyundai TUCSON

Purchased the 2016 Tuscon Limited with all the bells and whistles of a luxurious car. Had a 2013 we traded and loved that car! Daughter has a Hyundai as well. We have never taken a vehicle in except for routine maintenance until this car. There was the delay with the double clutch but there was something more. At 5000 miles, called the dealer for the routine maintenance and told them about this new stalling that had began. Had probably happened 2-3 times at that point. It would act like I was pushing a clutch (that wasnt there) and the accelerator at the same time so the vehicle would start to stop/stall. This wasnt the delay but a complete stall. On March 11, it stalled going across 4 lanes of traffic and I was happy to get to the other side once the transmission started working again. At that point, started feeling like the car was unsafe. Was only a mile from home and the car stalled several times before I could get home. Ended up calling Hyundai Roadside Service and having the car towed because it was not drivable. Was put in a rental car for less than a week and was told it was a recall. Was thrilled to hear this because we really loved the car and was hopeful this was the issue. Never got the car home, which was about 25 miles, before the stalls were worse than before. Took the car back that night and got the rental back. Dealer called March 15 and it was the control actuary assembly for the transmission and the part wouldnt be in for about 12 more days but I had the good ole rental! I asked (after consulting with a professional with credentials as in a crew chief for NASCAR) for a new transmission because it could have caused damage to the other parts of the transmission like the clutches, etc and they never listened to me of course. Got the car back on March 26th and on March 30, called about more issues. the wiper in the back wouldnt turn off when the front were on, then the car started stalling again and this time with a loud noise. Each and every time it happened, I thought I had been hit by another car. I have been completely stopped on the interstate as well as other roads. Called the dealer and here I go in again. Got me another rental and they couldnt duplicate the issue so I had to come and get my unsafe car. On my next commute to work I decided to turn my video on my phone on. The car stalled and you could hear the noise so I have the tape. Took the car in with the audio and they had no idea. 4/18/2016 Was called back to the dealer to put a monitor on my car so I could push a button when this happened and it would record a minute before and a minute after. Within 4 days, I had MULTIPLE recordings. 4/21/2016 On my way to the dealer on the interstate the car stalled and this was yet a different stall. This time I was accelerating and the RPMs was stuck and the car wouldnt go over 50mph unless I floored it all the way. Called the dealer in tears and was given a loaner car that evening for ONE day. The following day with the monitor in hand, received a call from dealer stating it would be the following Tuesday before the engineer from Hyundai would know what was wrong and I needed to come and get my UNSAFE car. I refused and told them I didnt want the UNSAFE vehicle and they could have their loaner. On my lunch break while I was away, they came with my car (I didnt know they were coming)to my job to trade vehicles with me and put me back in the UNSAFE car. Since I wasnt at my office, they had to go back to the dealer and while on their way back, the car stalled and did its thing twice (5 miles away). They called and said I could now get ANOTHER rental since they had heard and felt what was going on in my car. REALLY HYUNDAI????? TALKING ABOUT ADDING INSULT TO INJURY??????? BTW, at this point the computers have went out twice and been reset as well so been driving with no radio, media, phone, phone chargers, bluetooth, navigation, etc. I had been to the dealer 4 times in one week!!!! Yesterday I got a call from the dealer and got the same call from supposed to be the engineer about their next move and that is to replace the transmission and the complete computer on the dash. Its April 27th, and the parts will be in May 19th. Really????????? My car qualifies as a lemon under the lemon law and Ive asked for another car. Who would put their family in this car at this point? Im scared to get in it and have 2 daughters who drive that I will never allow to drive the car. I have also been hit by another vehicle because the car stalled. Hyundai do you have anything to say for yourself? Help me understand why you would put the safety of my family in jeopardy for weeks knowing there were transmission issues with the vehicle I have purchased from you. UPDATE: Transmission and computer replaced but its still not always engaging in a gear. It was towed back to the dealer again tonight. I have a case with Hyundai and engineer coming Thursday

  • Great car and great value. Just a few bugs - 2016 Hyundai TUCSON

We already have a 2011 sonata and liked it so when we needed an SUV the Tucson seemed like a logical option. Weve had the car for a month and its been great except for a couple of items The car sometimes hesitates from a dead stop but not anything terrible. The GPS system is balky but I only have it because you need to order the ultimate package to get the front end collision avoidance system and the GPS comes with it. Why anyone would use this instead of Google maps is a mystery to me. The Bluetooth iPhone link is also balky. It was much better on the Sonata. Hands free dialing finds contacts too slowly and requires too many steps. Much easier to just use Siri. The 2011 Sonata without navigation had a better faster interface than my 2016 Tucson with Ultimate package. The seats are also a little firm but i knew that from the Sonata and decided to live with it since the rest of the car met my needs at a better price than the competition

  • Transmission Issues on 2106 Hyundai Tucson Limited - 2016 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

The problem that I am having is when I start to accelerate going through the gears 1,2,3 and 4 there is a huge, pause/delay in shifting through the gears. In fact there has been may times when I start to accelerate the gears pauses and I hit the gas again and the vehicle does not accelerate at all the RPMs go up sometimes past 6 and the transmission start burning. I even got an safety display message that the transmission is overheated and to pull over for safety until it cools down. Note I only have 5719 miles and my 4th time taking it back to the dealership for service. I am driving in fear everything because this problem happens when it wants to sometimes the vehicles drives perfect then the next minute Im having the same issue. This problem is happening at a street light, stop sign, stop and go traffic on the streets and on the freeway, when I am slowing down to make a turn then accelerate and in the morning, afternoon and at night. I am afraid when I start to accelerate then the next second I cannot accelerate that the car behind me or if I am changes lanes and stop accelerating than another vehicle will crash into me. I dont know if the problem is the actual transmission and or software related, but it is unsafe and I do not want to drive this vehicle anymore.

  • HATE THIS VEHICLE! - 2016 Hyundai TUCSON

  • 2016 Hyundai Tucson Limited with Ultimate Package - 2016 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

Bought 2016 Hyundai Tucson after extensive research. Im very pleased with it. Likes No issues getting gas mileage numbers advertised in mixed driving, averaging about 26-27. Straight forward and fairly simple infotainment system to use. Sunroof is just flat out awesome. No issues with power, seems to have plenty for normal driving. Ventilated seats!!! Fairly quiet ride, especially compared to the rest of the class. Quirky stuff While driving slow, transmission seems a little jerky. When going down a steep hill, transmission doesnt seem to upshift so RPM runs pretty high which is easily goes up to 2500 or so. Easily fixed by manually upshifting. Blind spot monitoring button is very bright. Not sure why there isnt andoid auto or apply car play available for Tucson yet. So, going through all the items that Edmunds wants, I gave it 5 stars because I had to check something for value and reliability. I cant judge either of those 2 items yet because I havent had the car for long enough. Anyways, so far I love the car. When it comes to the competition, the only vehicle I liked more was the 2017 Kia Sportage because it had a regular transmission and engine as opposed the the 7 speed dual clutch and 1.6 liter turbo that is in the Tucson. The killer was the 21-25 city/highway gas mileage that is associated with the Kia Sportage. The Honda CRV was very nice but for about the same price, no ventilated seats and the ride was not as quiet. The CRV has more storage space in the trunk, a longer history for strong resale value and reliability. The Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, and Subaru Forester had too much road noise for me. I enjoy driving the Tucson. I feel the acceleration is pretty strong and I dont feel it ever lacks power. I drive pretty normally not too aggressive. The ride is fairly quiet. I love the entertainment system. I almost bought an Audi Q3 but after they showed me how to use the infotainment system, I was totally turned off. The sunroof is so awesome. The blind spot monitoring system works great. It lights up when someone shows up in your blind spot. If you turn your blinker on, it will give you an alarm. The ventilated seats are just awesome for warmer days. This is my first vehicle with a DCT or a Turbo engine. I enjoy both of them at this point. The engine/transmission combo will take a little getting used to but once you are use to it, you know what to expect. I keep the care in normal. Ive seen some videos that people have issues and they always have it in ECO mode. So, Ive read about some people that have had horrible issues with their Tucson and I hope to never experience what they experienced. Its horrible. I also understand that they probably sell quite a few of these vehicles so a couple of bad ones is always a possibility. I ended up paying extra for the full 100k/10 year bumper to bumper warranty just incase. I normally buy Hondas or Toyotas and have never had a problem with them in the past. Overall, very happy, excited, and feel good about this vehicle. Good luck on your decision.

  • My First Real Lemon - 2016 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

I am very disappointed in the 2016 Hyundai Tucson Limited. My main concern is the acceleration issue particularly when one needs to make a left turn within an intersection or simply escape an unforeseen incident. I purchased the car new in May 2016 so there usually isnt any cause for alarm from a new car however this problem is such a cause. I have been driving it back and forth to work and traveling long distances for recreation so I have put it to the test. Yet, I am not happy, to say the least, that my car balks upon pressing the gas pedal from a stopped position. I am placing a compliant with my dealership but more importantly, I will contact the area manager to file my compliant. This is really a safety manner as I do not feel safe when I am placing myself at risk by possibly having an accident as a result of the cars poor construction.
