Model Overview:

A compact crossover SUV, the Hyundai Tucson is aimed at buyers seeking the tall ride height and cargo convenience of a utility vehicle in a small, affordable package. Introduced for the 2005 model year, the Tucson has always offered a generous list of standard equipment and a lengthy warranty.

Although early versions of this Hyundai crossover have a decidedly budget feel, 2010 and later Tucsons have distinctive exterior styling and a slick interior to match. Acceleration and handling are also much better on the newer models, and fuel economy is significantly improved. Recent Tucson models are worth consideration if you're shopping for a used small crossover.

Follow up review to our Tucson after 20,000 miles. My wife and Is biggest hesitancy with purchasing a Hyundai was the long term reliability. The warranty obviously helps mitigate those fears, but we still didnt want our car to be constantly breaking down. I am happy to report that after 20,000 miles, we have not had a single issue with our vehicle. We live in the mountains of Colorado, so it has seen extreme conditions and plenty of hills, and it handled it all beautifully. The 4 cyclinder does fine on the passes, the AWD did great in the snow and rain, and we averaged about 26 MPG all around. My only complaints about the car are numb steering and the ride is a little rough, but not bad.

  • Still happy with my 2016 Tucson - 2016 Hyundai TUCSON

I have now owned my 2016 Tucson for 7 months, and its going strong. We have had an unusual winter here in Vermont this year. We have not received much if any snow, and had a lot of slush and ice. I wasnt sure how the Tucson would handle and its been great. I live on a dirt road, and find that dirt roads are especially challenging with ice mud and snow. Mud season has come early in Vermont, and a few times when navigating thru the mud, I felt the Tucson wasnt handling well, I turned on the 4 wheel drive and it did great. My gas mileage didnt go down too much during the winter months, that too was a nice surprise. I still get compliments on what a great looking car it is, and often people dont know what it is.

  • there may be hope yet! DCT update 8/11/16 - 2016 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

At this point you probably have heard about the dct (daul clutch transmission) issues.... They are real! Ive experienced them and its no joke! There are times when you step on the accelerator (gas pedal) and the computer doesnt let out the clutch or slips it way to much and the car may or may not go anywhere! Its only happened 5 times in 4,000 miles but is unacceptable!!! The vehicle has never left me stranded for more than a couple of minutes, but definetly not good experience and could lead to an accident..... That being said, I just had the new update for the dct software done today. Its supposed to fix the problem. The update is labeled TCU UPDATE (16-01-035). released as of 8-11-2016. Only time will tell if this fixes the problem. Im keeping my fingers crossed.... Providing this does indeed fix the problem i will go back to saying this is an amazing vehicle in every way!!! The turbo combined with the DCT is simply brilliant! well, its been 2 weeks since my software update!!! this is an add on to the review i did a couple of weeks ago.... Congrats hyundai!!! so far so good. Vehicle is driving perfectly now!!! It really is a shame for the bad rap this car is getting. Trust me, i understand, however i really believe the issue has been resolved! I challenge anyone reading this that owns the vehicle that the problem has been resolved to please post something positive!!! Im only doing this because i really love my tuscan turbo and would hate for people to miss out on an amazing vehicle. I would like to bet if this software was right from the get go that this car would be receiving rave reviews!!!

  • Tucson is a Star - 2005 Hyundai TUCSON

I love my new Tucson for so many reasons, but I dont have time to list them all! 1. Price 2. Excellent warranty from Hyundai Motors. 3. Comfort 4. Style and color (mine is a light aqua). 5. If it were a new Mustang which is what I was looking at before this, I would have had to worry about it constantly (dings in the parking lot, for instance), but since its not a Mustang, Im not as worried. Just for going to work and shopping, its perfect!

  • super safe - 2011 Hyundai TUCSON

We bought this car in Sept. Wife drives it 50 miles round trip to work and back. Last weekend she spun out on ice, went into a field and hit a telephone pole. Her only injury was to her hand from the air bag. No one could believe she wasnt seriously hurt. The cop and insurance adjuster said she was lucky she was driving that vechicle. It probably saved her. The car is probably going to be totaled out. If so we are definately going to get another one.

  • Problems - 2010 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

Got our new car in June of 2010. At 4300 miles, two weeks after our first oil change, it broke down, at first service couldnt find problem, but finally diagnosed as fuel pump failure. Pick car up and drive out of dealership and warning lights go off again, car sputters and almost stalls, horrible grinding noise and white smoke from engine, now diagnosed with A/C compressor failure. Worried about what will come next. Brand new car shouldnt have these many problems. Been in a rental car for four days and counting.

  • Great Little SUV - 2005 Hyundai TUCSON

We love this vehicle. We have taken it on a trip from Florida to New York State and back and it was very comfortable. Every time I climb into the "hunny 2son" all I can think is - wow, this is nice. The looks are much better than the Santa Fe.

  • Replacement 2007 - 2007 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

I just received this 2007 SE model as a replacement for my 2006 GLS which I had to lemon law due to charging system problems. So far, no problems with this 2007 model except for a leaking rear window that was fixed. The engine has nice power and the stability control and traction control keep the truck going straight and under control. The interior is roomy and the controls right at hand. Four wheel disc brakes along with dual exhaust are really nice. Mine came with Bridgestone tires this year comapred to BF Goodrich last. The "Bridges" have a much nicer ride and a lot better tread pattern that will do fine in the snow I believe. So far, Im quite happy and content!

  • DEFECT - 2005 Hyundai TUCSON
    By -

I enjoy driving this truck, its fun, looks good, but in 4 months of owing I had to get towed in because a hose under the hood stopped it from moving. This hose melted and twice came loose causing the truck to stall or not move forward. 3rd time its been "fixed". Ive been given a loaner vehicle each time, but I really want my truck to work well - I dont want a defect 2005 truck. It could be roomier, better on gas for city driving. Mp3 system is nice but no one at dealer could not explain how to use it. I like having a cassette and CD player. A lot of great standards for a great price.
