Model Overview:

A compact crossover SUV, the Hyundai Tucson is aimed at buyers seeking the tall ride height and cargo convenience of a utility vehicle in a small, affordable package. Introduced for the 2005 model year, the Tucson has always offered a generous list of standard equipment and a lengthy warranty.

Although early versions of this Hyundai crossover have a decidedly budget feel, 2010 and later Tucsons have distinctive exterior styling and a slick interior to match. Acceleration and handling are also much better on the newer models, and fuel economy is significantly improved. Recent Tucson models are worth consideration if you're shopping for a used small crossover.

After a few years of a haitus from SUVs I decided to buy the Tuscon based on very little knowledge other than its good looks and a good test drive. In fact I bought two at the same time for my wife and daughter since the price was right. Im impressed with the fit and finish and sold build quality. No squeaks or rattles so far. One of them did have to have the TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor replaced) after 2,000 miles. Overall, Im very pleased and would recommend it.

Fuel efficiency is great. The warranty is the best on the market. The exterior design is appealing.

Very dissapointing gas mileage, not 22 MPG as quoted, more like 17 MPG. Engine performance leave much to be desired, always doggin. This vehicle did not hold its value, purchased at $18,7k, at trade only worth 10k (and I shopped it around)!

We bought our new Tucson about a month ago. The performance of this car is about average. It seems that something is holding it back, the ride is not smooth at all. Engine noise is prohibitive, maybe its just our car but at slow speed engine is whinning (reminds me of famous German planes Stuka during WWII). Gas mileage is awful barely 20 mpg mostly hihgway. This is 2.0L engine for Gods sake!; my 15 year old Chevy was doing 24-25. Gas pedal is in wierd position for me, get tired very easily during long drives. Leg space for passenger is OK. Overall, this is "you get what you paid for vehicle". For the money (we paid 16,250 before tax) its OK buy, dont expect great things out of it.

Great visibilty and handling in the rain; excellent sound system; nice seat lumbar support; ease of dashboard controls; solid drive and handling; spacious back seat area and good cargo room; ease on your back in loading and unloading and getting in and out of seats. Good gas mileage, good pick up.

  • 2011 Hyundai Tucson Limited - What a Mistake - 2011 Hyundai TUCSON

I bought this vehicle in Nov 2010. The first thing I noticed was the gas milleage that I am getting compared to the manufacturer values. It was way off. I get less than 20MPG. So OK. I can live with that. Then the car turned 2 years old then the trouble begun. You name it and it broke. CV boot, fan motor, power sunroof, ABS and just yesterday, all the warning lights on the dashboard went off at the same time. That was scary. The ABS engages even when I am just going 30KPH on a bone dry road. I thought that Hyundai had fixed their quality problems from the past but they obviously havent yet. I had owned 3 CRVs in the past. I should have bought a 4th one. This is the first AND LAST Hyundai!!!

I bought my first compact SUV. Love it so far. I am 66 so had running boards installed to help my older friends get in. Love riding high. Pickup is a little slow but after that, great. I am really enjoying the vehicle and get great comments from my friends.

Im not sure if mine is the exception, but my Tuscon every once in a while has an electrical malfunction where the key gets stuck in the ignition, the blinkers fail to work, the locks wont work, and the lights wont turn off. Hyundai nor the dealership cannot figure out why this occurs. I was really looking forward to having a reliable vehicle with awd, good gas mileage, at a good value. This was my first Hyundai, and will definitely be my last. I noticed an article in inside line, where the testing manager had the same issue with the 2011 Sonata being reviewed. I wonder if this may be a Hyundai issue and not an isolated problem with just my vehicle. I definitely wouldnt recommend buying.

  • Middle East Tuscon User- Desert- City - 2005 Hyundai TUCSON

Great. Use it in the desert in deep sand without any problems...as long as I remember to reduce the air in my tires. Use it on steep mountain roads. And in the city. lots of room...all seats fold right down flat including front. all passengers have told me they feel comfy. Have put 50,000 kms in one year...and am a girl !
