This Year's Model Updates:

For 2001, Hyundai comes to market with its very own sport-utility. The Santa Fe is based on a modified Sonata midsize car platform and is available with either front-wheel drive or full-time four-wheel drive with either a four-cylinder or V6 engine.

Pros:
  • Relatively inexpensive price, super warranty, roomy interior.
Cons:
  • Unproven reliability, unimpressive four-wheeling capability, underwhelming powertrain performance.

I was originally hesitant to buy a Korean car but the warranty was so appealing I thought it was worth the risk. After almost two years and 44,000 miles Ive had zero problems and no warranty work whatsoever. Quality so far is incredible. Great fun and reliable.

  • I love my Santa Fe - 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

This is a wonderful, dependable, affordable vehicle. Its not real great on gas, but it looks good and I feel very safe. Its great if you have a child as you can put the child in the middle of the back seat and use the support hook in the back.

Have had this car for 4 years and not one problem. Use it off road on occasion and performs well. Plenty of room inside. Has met all of our needs at a great cost.

  • Awesome Vehicle! - 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

I bought this SUV new in 2001. I have kept up with all suggested maintenance, and have never had any problems whatsoever. It looks and drives just like it did the day I bought it. I absolutely love it and will most likely buy another one when the time comes. I have recommended this SUV to many friends who have wound up buying their own and are just as happy as I am. Buy it!

  • Nice to look at, but oh my.... - 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

Bought new in Aug 2001 and 2 weeks later, leaking evaporator killed A/C during the heat of S. FL summer. At 100K miles, have replaced more major parts than I can recall, including 2 failed alternators, a starter, rear hatch lock, window motor, oxygen sensor (nearly killed me on the highway approach), a fuel output sensor, something major in the steering, 2 front wheel boots; have computer failure that causes radio to repeatedly whine while rapidly switching back & forth from CD player to radio; turn it off and it turns itself back on! Doors unlock themselves. Awful awful mileage (16/20 & I drive moderately). Spent so much in repairs since 2001, I couldnt afford new car. A SUPER LEMON!

  • A great SUV - 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

Excellent value for the price. Comparable vehicles cost much more. Other than the normal minor issues that are associated with "First Year" vehicles, this was my best experience, and continues to be.

  • Not a high quality car for road in Boston - 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

I had this car from 35K mile to 65K mile. It was OK when I drove it in Texas with the smooth high ways. But it has been giving me problems since I moved to Boston. I need to replace the battery, ball joint, rear suspension, master brake cylinder. The CD player always turn it self on/off when Im driving on a bumpy road, which seems to be everywhere in Boston. I plan to sell this car now after driving in Boston for one year.

I love my vehicle. I have not had any trouble with it at all until last month.I have made 3 trips to Texas from Wyoming and never had a problem. I keep up with the changing of the oil and always try to keep at least half a tank full of gas as I never know when I am going to have to go out of town for some reason. I can take most of what I need and still have plenty of room for my little sitzu to go. She has plenty of room to get to her bed. I like the way the windows work. The service men at Underridders in Billings, Mt. do the service work on it as they sell Hyundais however they cant seem to find the trouble I have this time. I hope they can find it soon so I can have my car back.

  • Great Value - 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

I was first conserned about buying a Hyundai because of there reputation of being a poorly built auto. However my conserns are know none existent because my Sante Fe has ran beautifully for three straight years. I do alot of traveling on the weekends and I have always had room for all my luggage or whatever else I may carrying in the rear. I would encourage people to give Hyundia a try well at least the Sante Fe.
