This Year's Model Updates:

For 2001, Hyundai comes to market with its very own sport-utility. The Santa Fe is based on a modified Sonata midsize car platform and is available with either front-wheel drive or full-time four-wheel drive with either a four-cylinder or V6 engine.

Pros:
  • Relatively inexpensive price, super warranty, roomy interior.
Cons:
  • Unproven reliability, unimpressive four-wheeling capability, underwhelming powertrain performance.

Good Stuff! previously owned 3 Toyotas and looking for a change. Found an affordable, adorable, reliable mini- SUV. I always admired the look from a far and now Im thrilled that its super comfortable, perfect height, solid construction (heavy doors, easy handles, solid accessories). I can fit 2 bikes with no problem and the perks are great (heated seats, cruise, leather)

  • Love this vehicle- two year second owner - 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

I gave a lower reliability score because a front seal Transfer seal setn out and led to having to replace the casing, not a cheap fix. Im second owner to the warranty was not valid for me but the dealer/manufacture kicked in for a third of the cost. I dont understand the lower ratings on "performance" but my 2.6 v6 really gets with it when merging into a fast freeway on ramp. It is really fast which surprised me on the test drive for an SUV. This vehicle has 8o,ooo on it when I bought it and the previous owners had kept really good care of this rig, it was like new and still is and, unlike the new models it still had the combo CD/cassette radio and a rear window that opens (love it).

  • Best value SUV for the price - 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

I live in the midwest and our winters are brutal, so I had saved up about $4,000 to buy a used SUV that I could drive during snowy treks. Found this SUV with 100,000 miles for only $3K, with minor issues (heater didnt work, check engine light). Heater was easy fix, I passed e-check with some Seafoam, and have been driving for two months and love it. Snowed real bad last night, and felt very safe all the way home from work. Interior is boring but everything you need, handles well, fun to drive. Looked at older CRVs that had higher miles and that cost about a grand+ more. Very happy with this vehicle, and hope to drive it for another 100,000 miles.

  • noisey? no power, guzzler - 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

i love my santa fe, believe it or not from the title. But it has no acceleration to speak of and is very noisey. It drinks petrol and costs me a fortune to keep. although it got me through 2foot flood water with no problems at all recently.

I had never heard of Hyundai, but thought I would take a chance and test drive one. I knew that this was the SUV for me when I pulled into my drive way. It is as if the interior of the car is hugging you. You feel warmand cozy. I love everything about my Hyundai and I am looking forward to buying another one in the future.

  • A great vehicle for us - 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

Bought this one at 125K km, now has 205K. Weve replaced only wear parts so far. Its a little underpowered for my liking but it did pull a u-haul trailer through the Canadian Rockies just fine.

Love this truck! It is stylish, reliable and peppy. I have had no problems with it during the 1 1/2 years Ive owned it. Some recalls on parts but the dealership called me to inform me and repaired the truck in hours. Had a fender bender and wasnt taken for a bunch of money to replace damaged parts.

Owned the Santa Fe for 14 months. Purchased for my wife but I fell in love with it too. Had it only a few months when a cross country move happened. Crossed the Rockies in December... We passed all sorts of other 4WDS on the side, but the Santa FE kept right on truckin. I averaged aroung 24 mpg on the trip, so not bad at all. Could use a little more passing power, but you just cant beat the value and dependability of todays Hyundai. Definitely not the Hyundai of old.

  • What a lemon! - 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

After 3 months of owning my Santa Fe my nightmares began. In the first 10 months I had it in the shop for service 14 times. Ive had my Santa Fe 2 1/2 years and have had a new engine, on going transmission problems, on going electrical problems, Im on my 4th battery, brake problems, cabling in my doors replaced, 2 transmission sencors replaced, rear differential problem (replaced carrier)all covered under warrenty but only after review of service and maintenance of the vehicle

  • Good choice!!! - 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

Im a lover of HONDA but tried to find something different this time. After searching and read a lot of SUVs reviews from the web and magazines I tried to ride and compare. My choice was the SF V6 GLS 4D of 2001. Very good SUV for the price. I had 8,200 miles without problems. But I heard that the warranty its not good in Puerto Rico. Its difficult to find parts and always have to deliver it from USA and takes more than 3 months...and this is not a joke. And theres a recall for this Santa Fe if nobody know it, wath this URL: http://www.autosite.com/library/nhtsa/re cltext/AS000848.asp
