This Year's Model Updates:

Entering its second year of production, the Santa Fe gets four-wheel disc brakes as standard equipment as well as an optional upgraded stereo system. In May 2002, Hyundai responds to customer requests and makes a power sunroof optional for GLS and LX models. Besides that, all models benefit from midyear interior upgrades, among these larger air conditioning vents; a center stack-mounted clock; illumination for the power window buttons and glovebox; chrome accents; ISOFIX child-seat anchors for the outboard rear seating positions and an improved rear-seat recliner and folding mechanism. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Santa Fe's 2.4-liter four-cylinder is now rated for 138 hp and its V6 is now at 173 hp. To compensate, the company is offering Hyundai owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.

Pros:
  • Relatively inexpensive price, super warranty, roomy interior.
Cons:
  • Unimpressive four-wheeling capability, underwhelming powertrain performance.

  • The Santa Fe is a TRUE SLEEPER ! - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

The meaning of the Santa Fe being a TRUE SLEEPER is the fact that if more people spent the time to test drive and price compare a Mini SUV, they would realize that this vehicle is exactly what they need. I was always a Chevy Man, until I test drove a Santa Fe. I was more impressed with the quality and design that Hyundai put into this vehicle than that of others that were classified in its range. Hyundai has come a long way in quality and it backs itself up with a great warranty. This Mini SUV is by far the sharpest, smooth riding, and roomiest vehicle in its category. Once people catch on, its demand in the market place will soar.

  • Love my Santa Fe! - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

On the first tuneup to my mechanic. He said usually he can look at a new vehicle and pick out items that he predicts will fail or break. He said he cant find anything like that on my Santa Fe. I drive a lot and am very happy with my purchase.

I still love my Santa Fe after owning it for 5 yrs. It is just now starting to get little things wrong with it after 67,000 miles on it such as the light on the radio doesnt work, just replaced a brake switch, plugs and small things like that. The only major problem Ive had is the air conditioner went out, thru trial and error with the dealership, they finally had to call the company, to find out it was the computer. They replaced it free of charge under the warranty with no problems. Ive never had a car to compare with this one. Dont like the style of the new ones, but would love to have a new one just like I have now.

  • Very Impressed - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

Hyundai was the last SUV I test drove and I knew within 10 minutes that it was the one I was going to purchase. With the many features, interior room, and gas mileage, you cant beat the price when compared to other SUVs in its class. Having to drive for long periods of time and in many traffic jams in a city like Houston, it is the ideal vehicle. I am constantly recommending this vehicle to others.

  • Very good vehicle - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

I was surprised at how well the vehicle runs. It takes on rain, snow, and ice without hesitation. We got a lot of snow and ice this winter here in Pittsburgh and I honestly drive past people stranded in other SUVs and cars. Easy driving in very bad weather. My wife and I drove to Florida and back with it and absolutely no problem. It was a safe and comfortable ride.

  • IF this one ever dies, Ill buy another! - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

Dollar per mile, this is the best car I have ever owned. With over 85,000 on it already, its just breaking in. I dont think this vehicle will ever die. VERY upstanding company to deal with. Due to a misrepresentation in MPG, I got a bump on the warranty to 120,000 and $275 in dealer cash from a class action law suit! Try to get that from any other car company! If youre not into status symbols, keeping up with the Jones, or horsepower, then youll be among the intelligent, frugal, money conscience crowd. As long as Hyundai keeps up the quality and warranty levels, I will never buy anything else.

In my 30+ driving years nothing has psyced me up like the Santa Fe. The ride is smooth like a car, and not like a truck. The sound system is excellant.

  • Hyundai Santa Fe GLS AWD - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

I bought the SAnta Fe GLS AWD on April 5, 2002. I have been looking for a Great SUV that has good gas mileage and stylish. Even more important cost!! I have had no problems with the Santa Fe yetr and dont forsee any problems in the future. I have taken out the desert and to the mountains for a little off- road action. It handled AWSOME. felt like I was in a Lexus, smooth, yet rugged enough to handle everything I thru at it.
