This Year's Model Updates:

Entering its second year of production, the Santa Fe gets four-wheel disc brakes as standard equipment as well as an optional upgraded stereo system. In May 2002, Hyundai responds to customer requests and makes a power sunroof optional for GLS and LX models. Besides that, all models benefit from midyear interior upgrades, among these larger air conditioning vents; a center stack-mounted clock; illumination for the power window buttons and glovebox; chrome accents; ISOFIX child-seat anchors for the outboard rear seating positions and an improved rear-seat recliner and folding mechanism. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Santa Fe's 2.4-liter four-cylinder is now rated for 138 hp and its V6 is now at 173 hp. To compensate, the company is offering Hyundai owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.

Pros:
  • Relatively inexpensive price, super warranty, roomy interior.
Cons:
  • Unimpressive four-wheeling capability, underwhelming powertrain performance.

After 18000 miles so far so good. The only problem was when I filled up with gas I kept filling until it wouldnt barf anymore, or some would say overfilled. The warning light in dash came on. Upon check at service dept the computer said gas tank vapor check valve stuck. I wonder why? It was replaced. Dont overfill.

I bought my Sante Fe June 2001. I love it. I havent had any trouble out of it. Its very dependable and drives great. The mileage is reasonable for an SUV 19/26. The seating is quite comfortable, with many settings. With its 4-wheel independent suspension makes it handle smoothly.

Just bought or vechile last month and we love it. My father just bought a new trail blazer and they are about the same size(TB has a little more cargo room but less room in back seat). We paid 20,500 for SF GlS w/4WD and he paid $25,500 for his and does not have 4WD and only has 3/36 waranty. Plus we had more features. He looked at ours and said I should have bought that one!

I test drove EVERYTHING-from a Lexus, Acura, trucks, jeeps and I kept coming back to the Santa Fe. It is a terrific car for a great price. I love the cd/tape player, the feeling of safety, and the handling. If you get one-get the top of the line..it is worth the extra bucks.

We traded in our 1999 Rav4, which we bought new, on the Santa Fe. We really liked the Toyota but did not like its four cylinder engines lack of power, its uncomfortable and cramped back seat, and its excessive interior road noise. The six cylinder Santa Fe is very quiet inside and has much more power and an extremely comfortable and roomy back seat. If the GLS proves to be reliable, we will always purchase Hyundai vehicles.

  • Best in Its Class AND Best Value - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

Love our new Santa Fe! Hyundai has turned it around! Great SUV. Smoothest ride in class (we drove them all)! Roomy interior. Loaded. Powerful engine, w/ sporty auto-stick. Great service during sale! Plus, it was THOUSANDS less than its closest competitors! Came with a standard 5-year/50k bumper-to-bumber warranty, plus the touted 10-year, 100k powertrain warranty. Headlamp goes out? They fix it! Same w/ the battery! Plus, amazing roadside assistance - 5 yrs, unlimited miles, & average response time = 12 minutes! Added peace of mind for the car my wife and child will drive most often. Highly recommend this over anything in or even above its class!

  • Been good to us - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

Purchased new in Sept. of 01 and overall have been very satisfied. We purchased the extended warranty for a very affordable price and has paid off for us. The 2.7 V6 has plenty of power for a vehicle as heavy as it is and fuel mileage is reasonable at 20 mpg. avg. We have had a few mechanical issues covered mostly under warranty. Both front axles cracked and were replaced, a strange squealing noise from the rear that the dealership fixed but seems to reappear from time to time, the rear hatch door handle release latch sticks in and the door will not latch shut if you dont pull it out by hand. Radio goes on and off itself. This SUV is GREAT in snow with full time 4wd. Were keeping it

Even my husband drives it.I have the ABS traction control, pinstripping, mud flaps, carpeted mats, cross rails on roof rack, and even the side molding on doors and wheels.Have about 2600 miles on it.My dad has a 2002 Dodge Dakota and is more impressed with mine! Really appreciated everyones reviews on here. There were some features like the windows being able to go up when the truck is off that I didnt even know about!

So far, this is everything we expected. This vehicle is not only very sylish, but it is comfortable and very fun to drive. The bigges selling point was all of the standard features that are optional on other similar makes -- and the price is still at or below thiers! Definately worth consideration if you are in the market for a small/mid size SUV!
