This Year's Model Updates:

Entering its second year of production, the Santa Fe gets four-wheel disc brakes as standard equipment as well as an optional upgraded stereo system. In May 2002, Hyundai responds to customer requests and makes a power sunroof optional for GLS and LX models. Besides that, all models benefit from midyear interior upgrades, among these larger air conditioning vents; a center stack-mounted clock; illumination for the power window buttons and glovebox; chrome accents; ISOFIX child-seat anchors for the outboard rear seating positions and an improved rear-seat recliner and folding mechanism. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Santa Fe's 2.4-liter four-cylinder is now rated for 138 hp and its V6 is now at 173 hp. To compensate, the company is offering Hyundai owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.

Pros:
  • Relatively inexpensive price, super warranty, roomy interior.
Cons:
  • Unimpressive four-wheeling capability, underwhelming powertrain performance.

  • Gotta Love It - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

With the items that you get from the Santa Fe and the price. You cant beat it. No other SUV in its class or any others go for that price. But on an Auto frame instead of a truck frame is great. I test drove the Rodeo and the Santa Fe back to back twice at the dealership and the salesman was pushing the Rodeo. But I loved the ride and the feeling of the Santa Fe. Great for taller people.

For the past 30 days, our crystal blue Santa Fe has been proving to us that we made an excellent purchase. Its not just the price, warranty, V6-power, ride, comforts, and solid construction. Its the whole package. Its appearance seems to match well with its qualities. I also love driving this vehicle. It does not matter what others think about the car maker as long as I love driving it. A serious vehicle worth your money. At least a test drive.

I have driven this vehicle for more than a year now and it is amzing that hyundai delivers all this performance at this very reasonable cost.

i absolutely love this vehicle.. i guess working with a great hyundai sales manager (Walter Van at Lamar Hyundai in Cerritos, Calfornia) made this deal even sweeter.. for 20,500 out the door.. yup.. under invoice.. there is no suv comparable at that price range and with all the SFs standard features... driving is believing.. from a family of all toyotas.. hyundai has changed this skeptical buyer into a believer..

Bought this car for my oldest sun to replace a 1999 Ford Escort. Wanted him to have something roomier and more substantial to take to college. As a freshman he couldnt bring it to school yet so weve been driving it. Everyone fights to drive this vehicle, even my wife who has a 2002 Chrysler Town & Country LXi. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone! Im thinking of buying a 2003 LX to replace my 1998 Volvo S70 T5.

To ease the fear of new Hyundai owners, Ive had my SF for 3 years now and have put on a staggering 126,000 miles. The only problem I have had was a flat tire, and the replacement of a ball joint(minor problem) thats it! Great car, and value!

This vehicle drives well. It accelerates well from a stop and has a fair amount of power in its engine. Fuel economy is about 20 MPG in the city and 27 on the highway. The ride is comfortable and reasonably smooth. However, maintenance is difficult for this vehicle. You must remove an intake manifold from the engine in order to change all spark plugs. The front suspension is set up so the ball joints and control arms are held in place against the weight of the car, so that it will collapse if one breaks, we recently found out the hard way. It will cost about $800 to fix this. Reliability and maintenance are sometimes issues for this vehicle.

I have only had this suv for about a month but for the money, comfort, and warranty, it cant be beat! The only issues I have with it are minor.

  • what was I thinking - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

Its a Hyundai- what was I thinking. guess we wwere influenced to much by the exterior design- The car looks really cool. However only after a short time we had the car thing are falling apart. The screw to the oiltank had a hairline crack. The motor needed readjustment. The engine noise is now transmitted to the interior and the plastic parts inside are vibrating. not much but I guess it will get worse. The car seems to accelerate pretty slowly- We ignored that when we bought the car. The actual economy is 24. (Much higher). We are really dis-illusioned
