This Year's Model Updates:

The 2009 Hyundai Genesis is an all-new model. It's Hyundai's first rear-wheel-drive luxury car for the U.S. market.

Pros:
  • Smooth and powerful engines, comfortable ride, features and options galore, good value for the money.
Cons:
  • Lacks brand cachet, no all-wheel-drive option, rear seat does not fold down.

  • Honestly.. Very Disappointed!! - 2009 Hyundai Genesis
    By -

Sadly bought my 4.6 LOADED brand new after reading about All the Great reviews. Its now been 2 years since my regretable purchase. Please let me reassure you I am a REAL Person and not a rep from some other ripoff car company like BMW! Tires very cheap replaced at 12,000 miles! Key needs to be within 1 foot or placed in slot to operate the pushbutton start!. Terrible in the snow and wet roads with the rear drive! Backup camera works 50% of time! You need a Hyundai brand I-Pod cable to work you I-Pod connection (Extra 75.00) Hmm never mentioned! The Transmnission shifting is a Nightmare and very embarrasing! Frequent updates for stereo _ etc. Im outta words with alottt more to say!

  • Big Problems - 2009 Hyundai Genesis
    By -

We have had the car just over one year. This past week while driving, the entire car shut down. The dealer towed the car and come to find out the rear engine seal failed they still dont have a clue as to why. They are putting a brand new engine in it at no cost to me so their service has been A+. They are sending the old engine back to the company to investigate. Their engineers and mechanics could not find a reason for the failure, that is why the old engine is being returned to their factory to try and find out why. They gave me excellent service but my problem is I no longer trust the car. As soon as I get it back Im selling it. If it happened once it could happen again!!!

  • BAD BAD RIDE. Avoid IT - 2009 Hyundai Genesis
    By -

I have leased this care now for 1 year, and I have 2 years to go. The ride is just horrible. It actually makes you sea sick on the roads. The stero is great, the interior looks great. Seats are comfortable, but you buy a car to drive, and it is the worst riding car I have ever had. I can hardly wait to get rid of it. If I wouldnt take a big loss, id get rid of it this afternoon.

  • Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6 Tech/Premium Pack - 2009 Hyundai Genesis
    By -

Overall excellent product however, beware as there are subtle issues such as alignment (pull to left or right) and very bumpy ride. I recommend that you invest in cars that do not come with defects and have higher resale value. Also, company needs to stand behind its products and learn from Toyotas recent recall.

  • Bad electrical system - 2009 Hyundai Genesis
    By -

Started having electrical problems within four months. Battery completely dicharges if vehicle is not used for 72 hours. Dealership has replaced battery numerous times and they can not figure out the problem. Changecd the radio/CD head unit for malfunction.Replaced the central console for malfunction. Seats are too small and stiff. Front passenger seat has very few adjustments. Air conditioning is not adequate for hot weather particularly when using in auto mode. CD functions are limited. CD does not change automatically from one disc to the next. The data stored in the memory, like phone numbers etc., are lost if you disconect the battery.

  • Deteriorating after 10K Miles, - 2009 Hyundai Genesis
    By -

I may be one of the unlucky ones. After 10K miles rattles and creaking have started to surface and they are getting worse. Especially one loud RATTLE from the rear end. Doesnt sound like a $40K car any more. My old Jeep made less noise. Registered my issues with Hyundai. Hope the rest of you dont wind up like me. Killed the fun.

  • Nice, but definitely doesnt compare - 2009 Hyundai Genesis
    By -

I recently purchased a 4.6 Genesis for my wife, and Im not too impressed. An impulse buy really, but Im beginning to see why the car is so much cheaper than my BMW. The engine is pretty nice, but in no way compares with my 550is V8 (torque curve, etc). Im pretty particular about my cars, and its the little details with the Genesis that turn me off. The materials just feel inferior, and it just seems like Hyundai stole design features from all of their so- called "competitors", down to the fake iDrive and 5-series exterior styling cues. I think the buyers of this car will realize over time that this car is just a flashy attempt at producing a true luxury car w/o any substance.

  • Terrible ride - 2009 Hyundai Genesis
    By -

At first glance it looks like a lot for the money but on closer inspection the interior is cheaply constructed, you cannot transfer the phone book from your cell phone and the seats have no real lateral support. But all of this pales in the face of the terrible suspension. The ride is rough and jittery with a tendency towards porpoising on almost all surfaces, even those that appear to be smooth and or recently paved. I would test drive the heck out of a potential purchase and if you experience the slightest bit of what I have described, pass on it and look at something else. No other car that I have driven in recent years, of any price point, has these awful ride characteristics.
