Model Overview:

Larger and more luxurious than the average midsize family sedan, the Hyundai Azera slots between the Sonata and Genesis sedans in Hyundai's lineup. It provides impressive interior room, features and power for a price that's thousands less than many competing vehicles. Buyers who have owned a domestic full-size sedan in the past and are looking for a new vehicle will want to check out the Hyundai Azera. It prioritizes comfort, luxury, safety and value, and is well-suited both for commuting and long-distance trips.

Current Hyundai Azera
The Azera comes in base and Limited trim levels. Both are powered by a 3.3-liter V6 engine that produces 293 horsepower. The only transmission offered is a six-speed automatic with manual shift control, which routes power to the front wheels.

Even the base Azera comes with keyless ignition/entry, blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, powered and heated front seats, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, a rearview camera, Hyundai's BlueLink emergency communications and a six-speaker audio system. The Limited adds xenon headlamps, power-folding mirrors, a power-adjustable steering wheel, driver memory settings, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, an upgraded surround-sound audio system and a navigation system. Limited buyers may add bigger wheels, a panoramic sunroof, rear parking sensors and window sunshades.

In reviews we've been impressed with the Hyundai Azera's overall competence. The potent V6 provides swift acceleration and good fuel economy, while the six-speed automatic provides smooth, if somewhat leisurely, shifts. The suspension is clearly tuned for optimal ride comfort, though handling doesn't suffer noticeably, as there's none of the floaty feeling one might associate with large sedans. Overall, the roomy Azera is quite impressive and is an excellent choice for a comfortable, upscale large sedan.

Used Hyundai Azera Models
The Hyundai Azera was redesigned for 2012. Compared to the first-generation Azera, it's considerably more stylish and boasts more power, as well as a higher-quality interior. Not much has changed since, though for its first two years this Azera came in only one, loaded trim level.

The first-generation Azera was produced from 2006-'11. It was generally regarded as a decent, well-rounded large sedan. There were a number of changes throughout the car's run, however, so we'd advise paying attention to specific years if you're considering one from this era. This Azera was offered in three trim levels: GLS, SE and Limited. The GLS and SE came pretty well equipped; the main options were leather seating and a premium sound system. The Limited had those features as standard, along with additional equipment. A navigation system was optional for the Limited in the car's latter years.

At its debut, the Azera GLS was powered by a 3.3-liter V6 that produced 234 hp and 226 pound-feet of torque. The Azera SE and Limited sported a 3.8-liter V6 that made 263 hp and 257 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission was standard on all Azeras.

As for changes, the GLS received more standard features in 2008 and essentially replaced the SE. Satellite radio, a navigation system and the surround-sound system also joined the 2008 features list. For 2009, the Azera's steering and suspension were revised, while different interior lighting, a new grille and an iPod/USB audio jack were welcome additions. For the final model year, Hyundai upped the power output to 260 hp and 233 lb-ft of torque for the GLS, and 283 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque for the Limited. The transmission was also upgraded to six speeds. Fuel economy was also up, so if you can swing a 2011 Azera, it's likely the pick of the litter.

In editorial reviews, we typically found the Azera's awkwardly tall seating position as one of its main liabilities. But overall we found much more praise-worthy attributes in the form of its excellent interior design and materials, refined and quiet ride, powerful V6, strong brakes, roomy backseat and value for the money.

  • Azera VS Avalon VS ES350 - 2007 Hyundai Azera
    By -

My family owns 2 other Toyota. I did not even consider a Hyundai when I first started looking into purchasing a new car for the family. But I did tons and tons of research reading online review sites as well as forums. We decided to test the Lexus ES350, Toyota Avalon, and the Hyundai Azera(we never considered an american car). The Azera turned out to be quite a suprise. It is a extremely good car even without considering the low price or long warranty that Hyundai is known for. If you factor in the fact that a similarly equipped Avalon is 5K above the price of an Azera, we picked the Azera without hesitation. I am now an extremely satisfied owner of a Hyundai Azera.

  • Wow! Its a Hyundai - 2006 Hyundai Azera

I have had the Azera for a week, but I can say that it is one of the best cars I have every driven. I have driven Lexus, Infiniti, Mercedes, Lincoln, and the quality of ride is comparable and in many cases better. The car is solid. It handles well, accelerates well and never feels like it is being put upon when driving up hill or whisking down a busy interstate during a heavy rain. If you choose this car, youll wont be sorry. It is not a sport sedan. I would place it in the category of a touring sedan. It has power and subtle elegane. Way to go Hyundai!

  • In love with my Azara Experiance - 2016 Hyundai Azera
    By -

I cant say enough about my over all satisfaction with the 2012 and now the 2016 Azara. In 2012 I trade in my BMW 750L for the Azara, I was worried that I would be greatly disappointed but I wanted to save some money as I had to kids entering college. I was worried about NOTHING; the Azara was such a plesant surprise, it is chuck full of high end technology, fantastic look and feel, an increadably comfortable ride. With all honestly, I did not miss a single thing from my BMW. The price value was amazing and the ownership experience was even more of a pleasure. In fact I loved is so much I just picked up my new 2016 Azara Limited. I just know Im going to love my 2016 even more then my 2012. If you have not considered an Azara you are truly missing out!

I have been looking for a new car for over a year and I pretty much drove them all in my price range.I first saw this car at a large auto show in town where it was drawing quite a crowd.I took it for a test drive the following week and was very impressed. It drives like my wifes Lexus but without the price tag.I did drive the Lexus is330 but liked the Hyundai better.

  • Best car Ive ever owned - 2006 Hyundai Azera
    By -

My previous two cars were Cadillac DeVilles, the last an 03.I dropped into Hyundai dealership on a lark and was immediately impressed. I was originally planning to buy the top of the line Toyota Avalon. But not after seeing and driving the Azera. I purchased the Azera Limited with Ultimate package and two days later started out on a 5000 mile round trip. Car performed perfectly, great mileage and drove in total comfort. Outstanding quality, appearance, and marvelous sound system. This is truly the best car Ive ever owned and Ive owned lots of them.I recommend this car without equivocation. My Hyundai Azera Limited, with Ultimate package, is truly the best car Ive ever owned!

Awesome car. Loaded with features for a fracation of the price of other sedans.

  • Undersold and over-delivered - 2006 Hyundai Azera
    By -

I took a chance buying this car believing that it would depreciate quickly. Who cares! This is by far one of the most comfortable cars I have ever driven. I considered the Acura TL, but there was just something about this car. Hyundai did not pump you up through specs and so on. They delivered a car for you to discover. Gas mileage has been great, but truthfully, operating time is the best comparison for city driving, gas mileage is about 0 per gallon at a light. You get about 10 hours drive time in the city. Read the manual and you will get much more out of your car.

  • Style, Comfort, Reliability - 2012 Hyundai Azera
    By -

5+ years, 50K miles. Still runs great, rides comfortably, and very low maintenance. Main issue after 5 years of ownership - the technology changes that have occurred in the auto industry since 2012 are significant.....This will make someone a great used car when I trade up.

  • Great Car-Unbelievable Value - 2006 Hyundai Azera
    By -

I drove Jaguars for 18 years before I bought this Azera. I am totally pleased with my decision. The Azera has everything I want at a great price without sacrificing anything. It looks and drives great, has plenty of power and is quiet. Fit and finish are outstanding. It is loaded with features;a great find when compared with much more expensive cars.
