Overview & Reviews
Larger and more luxurious than the average midsize family sedan, the Hyundai Azera slots between the Sonata and Genesis sedans in Hyundai's lineup. It provides impressive interior room, features and power for a price that's thousands less than many competing vehicles. Buyers who have owned a domestic full-size sedan in the past and are looking for a new vehicle will want to check out the Hyundai Azera. It prioritizes comfort, luxury, safety and value, and is well-suited both for commuting and long-distance trips.
Current Hyundai Azera
The Azera comes in base and Limited trim levels. Both are powered by a 3.3-liter V6 engine that produces 293 horsepower. The only transmission offered is a six-speed automatic with manual shift control, which routes power to the front wheels.
Even the base Azera comes with keyless ignition/entry, blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, powered and heated front seats, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, a rearview camera, Hyundai's BlueLink emergency communications and a six-speaker audio system. The Limited adds xenon headlamps, power-folding mirrors, a power-adjustable steering wheel, driver memory settings, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, an upgraded surround-sound audio system and a navigation system. Limited buyers may add bigger wheels, a panoramic sunroof, rear parking sensors and window sunshades.
In reviews we've been impressed with the Hyundai Azera's overall competence. The potent V6 provides swift acceleration and good fuel economy, while the six-speed automatic provides smooth, if somewhat leisurely, shifts. The suspension is clearly tuned for optimal ride comfort, though handling doesn't suffer noticeably, as there's none of the floaty feeling one might associate with large sedans. Overall, the roomy Azera is quite impressive and is an excellent choice for a comfortable, upscale large sedan.
Used Hyundai Azera Models
The Hyundai Azera was redesigned for 2012. Compared to the first-generation Azera, it's considerably more stylish and boasts more power, as well as a higher-quality interior. Not much has changed since, though for its first two years this Azera came in only one, loaded trim level.
The first-generation Azera was produced from 2006-'11. It was generally regarded as a decent, well-rounded large sedan. There were a number of changes throughout the car's run, however, so we'd advise paying attention to specific years if you're considering one from this era. This Azera was offered in three trim levels: GLS, SE and Limited. The GLS and SE came pretty well equipped; the main options were leather seating and a premium sound system. The Limited had those features as standard, along with additional equipment. A navigation system was optional for the Limited in the car's latter years.
At its debut, the Azera GLS was powered by a 3.3-liter V6 that produced 234 hp and 226 pound-feet of torque. The Azera SE and Limited sported a 3.8-liter V6 that made 263 hp and 257 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission was standard on all Azeras.
As for changes, the GLS received more standard features in 2008 and essentially replaced the SE. Satellite radio, a navigation system and the surround-sound system also joined the 2008 features list. For 2009, the Azera's steering and suspension were revised, while different interior lighting, a new grille and an iPod/USB audio jack were welcome additions. For the final model year, Hyundai upped the power output to 260 hp and 233 lb-ft of torque for the GLS, and 283 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque for the Limited. The transmission was also upgraded to six speeds. Fuel economy was also up, so if you can swing a 2011 Azera, it's likely the pick of the litter.
In editorial reviews, we typically found the Azera's awkwardly tall seating position as one of its main liabilities. But overall we found much more praise-worthy attributes in the form of its excellent interior design and materials, refined and quiet ride, powerful V6, strong brakes, roomy backseat and value for the money.

Great looks Great comfort Great car - 2007 Hyundai Azera
By pmerutka - July 16 - 10:38 pmI dont see many other Azeras on the road. That is very surprising to me! Word must not have gotten out about how great of a car this is. The interior is spacious and very comfortable. The ride is smooth but not floaty. It is extremely quiet. There are times I need to look at the tach to make sure the engine is running. Even at highway speeds things are quiet in the cabin. The upgraded Infinity sound system can definitely overcome the quietness. It can easily pump out clear sound that you can feel. The 3.8 liter engine has plenty of power to give quick acceleration. The auto trans can lag when trying to kick it in to down shift for passing, but slipping it into manul shift mode solves this.

Youll be pleasantly suprised - 2006 Hyundai Azera
By PleasantlySurprised - July 15 - 4:35 pmAfter over 230,000 miles on my Toyota Camry LE wagon, I began looking for a replacement that would not only be as reliable as the Toyota, but also well- made and safe. I looked at several comparable vehicles and consulted many consumer resources (kbb, edmunds, JD Powers, Consumer Reports, etc.), and chose the Azera as the best value overall. I have the Limited Edition pearl white exterior with the light gray interior, leather seats, beautiful wood trim, sun roof, rear sun shade, with dual climate control. The ride is very comfortable and quiet, with minimal wind/road noise. The fit and finish is comparable to models with higher price tags. People have asked what import model I drive! :-)

Original Review, Revisited - 2007 Hyundai Azera
By Susan - July 14 - 1:15 pmIts time to update the original review, now that the car 8.2k miles ... and the news is all good! Mileage has improved, w/ 30 per gallon on a recent roadtrip into the Rocky Mountains here in CO, with intermittent use of the air-conditioning and road speeds of 45 - 75. The cruise control definitely helps. This car purred while easily and smoothly passing big rigs on two-lane, twisty mountain roads ... revved it up to 95 for a quarter-mile sprint and the engine quietly, confidently roared! The cabin is quiet, the seats are comfy even after an eight hour drive. My friends who have Honda, Acura and Audi LOVE this car and its price!

If you can find a better car, Buy It! - 2007 Hyundai Azera
By Pastor Shaun - June 30 - 3:22 pmI am 55 and have been driving for 40 years and have owned countless cars including a 97 Cadillac Eldorado. I just traded in our 2004 Sonata for a 2007 Azera Limited with Ultimate Option Group 25. The Azera is the single best value on the market! Nothing compares at this price point. I shopped and compared everything in the under $40K range from Audi, Ford, GM, Chrysler, Benz, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Lincoln, Cadillac, etc, etc, etc. Some of the models road a little better, some had a little more horsepower, some a little better styling but none can put the ride/handling, horsepower, styling, warranty into a package like the Azera and sell it for under $30K.

No sedan can ever compete with new azera - 2007 Hyundai Azera
By Abess - June 27 - 11:15 pmNew azera 2007 offers a new class of luxury, comfort, performance and safety. while driving you hear no voice. one of the posetive points is the shift trounic gear box and the only negative point is the lack of gps. 7 mounthes before buying my 2007 azera , i used to own a 2007 3.5 xle camry but the the performance was owful , cabin wax noisy, seats were not ergonomic , performance of gearbox was odd. of course it had some good points like gps but the dvd was awful. If i was supposed to decide again between camry & azera i would certaily choose azera again.

Great Car. - 2007 Hyundai Azera
By VA driver - June 26 - 3:40 pmGreat car!! We have had Nissan Maximas and loved them, but the new style and price of the latest left us looking for competitors. What we found was a better car at a much better price than the Maxima or the Avalon.

Excellent Vehicle - 2007 Hyundai Azera
By Greg - June 24 - 1:53 pmNever thought I would own a Hyundai. Was about to purchase a Lexus, saw the Azera in a parking lot and was hooked. Incredible value! Have had only one problem. The plastic drivetrain cover fell off while doing 80mph on hiway 5 in the middle of nowhere. Scared me!

Outstanding Purchase by Ken in Virginia - 2006 Hyundai Azera
By Ken - June 24 - 7:00 amI have owned the Azera for 6 weeks and have just passed the 1200-mile mark. As the owner of two Mercedes Benz sedans, the Azeras ride and handling is very similar and better in some respects. As a baby-boomer and former muscle car owner, I was very pleasantly surprised at the "pick up" and immediate power for passing or just enjoying the power packed in this great sedan. Maximum gas mileage so far has been 25 miles per gallon (combined city and highway). I like the body style, but did not know how much I appreciated it until I saw other Azeras on the road. The car has great lines and really catches your eye!

Newest Hyundai - 2007 Hyundai Azera
By labrat - June 22 - 10:25 pmI only have 2200 miles so far but the only problem has been a rebalance of the front tires. Most driving is on freeways with minimal surface street driving. Mileage is well within expected ranges and comfort is great. The select shift has proven itself in mountain driving being able to control down hill speed and curves easily.
