Model Overview:

Larger and more luxurious than the average midsize family sedan, the Hyundai Azera slots between the Sonata and Genesis sedans in Hyundai's lineup. It provides impressive interior room, features and power for a price that's thousands less than many competing vehicles. Buyers who have owned a domestic full-size sedan in the past and are looking for a new vehicle will want to check out the Hyundai Azera. It prioritizes comfort, luxury, safety and value, and is well-suited both for commuting and long-distance trips.

Current Hyundai Azera
The Azera comes in base and Limited trim levels. Both are powered by a 3.3-liter V6 engine that produces 293 horsepower. The only transmission offered is a six-speed automatic with manual shift control, which routes power to the front wheels.

Even the base Azera comes with keyless ignition/entry, blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, powered and heated front seats, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, a rearview camera, Hyundai's BlueLink emergency communications and a six-speaker audio system. The Limited adds xenon headlamps, power-folding mirrors, a power-adjustable steering wheel, driver memory settings, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, an upgraded surround-sound audio system and a navigation system. Limited buyers may add bigger wheels, a panoramic sunroof, rear parking sensors and window sunshades.

In reviews we've been impressed with the Hyundai Azera's overall competence. The potent V6 provides swift acceleration and good fuel economy, while the six-speed automatic provides smooth, if somewhat leisurely, shifts. The suspension is clearly tuned for optimal ride comfort, though handling doesn't suffer noticeably, as there's none of the floaty feeling one might associate with large sedans. Overall, the roomy Azera is quite impressive and is an excellent choice for a comfortable, upscale large sedan.

Used Hyundai Azera Models
The Hyundai Azera was redesigned for 2012. Compared to the first-generation Azera, it's considerably more stylish and boasts more power, as well as a higher-quality interior. Not much has changed since, though for its first two years this Azera came in only one, loaded trim level.

The first-generation Azera was produced from 2006-'11. It was generally regarded as a decent, well-rounded large sedan. There were a number of changes throughout the car's run, however, so we'd advise paying attention to specific years if you're considering one from this era. This Azera was offered in three trim levels: GLS, SE and Limited. The GLS and SE came pretty well equipped; the main options were leather seating and a premium sound system. The Limited had those features as standard, along with additional equipment. A navigation system was optional for the Limited in the car's latter years.

At its debut, the Azera GLS was powered by a 3.3-liter V6 that produced 234 hp and 226 pound-feet of torque. The Azera SE and Limited sported a 3.8-liter V6 that made 263 hp and 257 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission was standard on all Azeras.

As for changes, the GLS received more standard features in 2008 and essentially replaced the SE. Satellite radio, a navigation system and the surround-sound system also joined the 2008 features list. For 2009, the Azera's steering and suspension were revised, while different interior lighting, a new grille and an iPod/USB audio jack were welcome additions. For the final model year, Hyundai upped the power output to 260 hp and 233 lb-ft of torque for the GLS, and 283 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque for the Limited. The transmission was also upgraded to six speeds. Fuel economy was also up, so if you can swing a 2011 Azera, it's likely the pick of the litter.

In editorial reviews, we typically found the Azera's awkwardly tall seating position as one of its main liabilities. But overall we found much more praise-worthy attributes in the form of its excellent interior design and materials, refined and quiet ride, powerful V6, strong brakes, roomy backseat and value for the money.

  • Outstanding Car!! - 2007 Hyundai Azera

I researched a bunch of cars, came close to buying a Toyota Camry vs. Nissan Altima until I read about the Hyundai. I went to the local dealer to look at a 2009 Sonata and ended up falling in love with a used 2007 Azera. This is by far the best car Ive ever owned for a fraction of the price I paid for Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, and Audi. Congratulations to the South Koreans for producing an outstanding car! In contrast to other reviews I get about 20 mpg around town and 28-33 on the road.

While my dream car WAS a Mercedez Benz, being a hard working professional, and single mother I couldnt afford it. In doing my initial car buying research I discovered the Hyundai Azera! An exisquite car for an exisquitely decent price! Ive had it for a full week now and have turned quite a few heads. And while my ego would love to believe that the men are looking at me in my car, I know that they are checking out my ride and saying to themselves, "Nah, that cant be a Hyundai!" Well move over Buick LaCrosse and Toyota Avalon, and Mercedez Benz, you all have some competition!

  • Never before, have I had such an incredible car. - 2016 Hyundai Azera

Geez, where to begin on this car? Everything I have ever wanted in a car. The Limited model is truly a luxury car. I mean the outside is just plain oozing with style. It is gorgeous and makes a statement, and definitely makes an impression on the road and in parking lots.....it is just such a "sleek" design. The interior - reminds me of high-end BMWs and other cars with the ambient lighting across the doors and the dashboard (I didnt know it had the interior ambient lighting until later that night after I drove it off the lot.......I already was impressed with the car then I saw that added little thing - it just further blew me away. I swear - I am finding new things on this car every day - until recently I didnt realize the car has a ventilated glove box!! I was like what?? The car drives and handles like a dream - the technology is outstanding, the way the interior is made is so sleek and gorgeous - again "oozes" with style. Honestly - I have had my share of "lemons" and other cars in the past....I have owned sedans, SUVs, and trucks, and the Hyundai Azera stands out by far from all the rest. I mean it when I say it has EVERYTHING. I love the detectors (blind spot, collision, rear cross-traffic alert, a huge screen for the backup camera) - I love how the car is just "smart" and is truly, such a pleasure to drive. Why Hyundai doesnt advertise this dream car is beyond my understanding - I live in a big city and I think I have seen maybe 2 or 3 other Azeras on the road in the last 10 months I have owned the car. If you are considering this automobile - DO IT. Just do it - you will NOT be disappointed. Way nicer and full of amenities than a base model Genesis, and way more value and is just better in my opinion than competitors like the Nissan Maxima or the Toyota Avalon. Did I mention the huge panoramic glass roof? It is a dream on wheels - I will not be trading in anytime soon - again - the Azera is everything I have ever wanted in a car, have gotten NUMEROUS compliments from people on it, it will NOT disappoint.

This is an excellent car as a whole . Great radio . Rides smoothly and has excellent pickup. Automatic climate controls work nicely. I have had this car since Nov 07 and have driven 4700 miles since then.

  • Better Than Lexus or Audi - 2006 Hyundai Azera
    By -

Ive had Lexus ES330, Audi A4, and Avalon. Azera is definately better than them for a lot cheaper price. I highly recommend this car for anyone who wants to drive a luxury car but a little short in budget. If you test- drive this car, you will know what I really mean. I have no doubt that Hyundai will surpass Toyota or Honda in the near future because Hyundai are making better quality cars at a lower price. Thanks Hyundai!!!!

  • A pure joy to drive - 2006 Hyundai Azera

This is one of the best cars Ive ever driven. It is fun to drive very peppy only complaint I have is it seems a little light in the front end sometimes. I can deal with that though for the thousands of dollars I saved over my other choices in this class.

Traded from a Buick Rendezvous because driving it 80 miles round trip to work was too much $$$ for gas. While looking at Sonatas, a salesman said "check out the Azera, it has as much space as a 7 Series BMW" I sat in it and was instantly hooked. Bought my Azera used with 18K miles, Im up to 45K and loving every driving minute. I get 29-33 MPG highway and 20-24 city. Idling will drive that down. With the possible exception of my 96 Buick Riviera, its the best ride Ive ever had.

Traded in my Cadillac while on vacation. This car is roomy and has a trunk as large as my DeVille. Fun car to drive and it will get up and go. Very nice leather interior and I love the white pearl exterior. Engine is exceptionally quiet as well as powerful. Heated seats and folding rear seats and exterior chrome accents make this a special car.

  • Great Car - 2006 Hyundai Azera

Excellent car, my 3rd Hyundai, love the power and gas mileage. 22 MPG around town, 29 MPG highway. Great leg room, five adults can ride comfortably. Holds the road well and has excellent power. Better insulation would help with road noise.

I traded my 2004 Maxima with only 27,000 miles for the 2007 Azera limited w/ultimate package in August, 2007. My purchase was based on the features included with the car, especially 8 airbags! The Azera outshines my old car in everything wanted or desired in an automobile. The turning radius is unbelievable compared to my trade-in. My wife loves the way the Azera handles, as I do.
