Overview & Reviews
Few vehicles are as instantly recognizable as a Hummer SUV. Unapologetically boxy and impossibly wide, these rugged vehicles were originally built for military use, and it shows. For Hummer aficionados, the fact that these mammoth rock-crawlers are tank-like both in appearance and nature is a selling point, not a flaw. Go to a Hummer dealer and all you'll see are SUVs. There is no such thing as a Hummer car, at least not yet.
The Hummer brand can actually trace its roots back to another military icon -- the Jeep. Designed by the Willys-Overland company in the 1940s, the Jeep became so popular that when Henry J. Kaiser purchased the Willys-Overland company in 1953, the name was changed to Kaiser-Jeep. In 1970, American Motors bought Kaiser-Jeep and renamed it the Jeep Corporation. At that point, Jeep was producing vehicles through two divisions: the Commercial Products division in Toledo, Ohio, and the Government Products division in South Bend, Indiana.
A year later, the Government Products division was spun off as a wholly owned subsidiary known as AM General. In the early 1980s, the company, now owned by the LTV Corporation, designed a vehicle to compete for a contract offered by the U.S. Army. Called the High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV, or Humvee, as it came to be known), it was designed to serve as the military's main light tactical vehicle. AM General won a 1983 production contract (the first of many with the U.S. Army) that required the delivery of 55,000 vehicles over a five-year period.
AM General's Humvees distinguished themselves in active duty during the Persian Gulf War in the early '90s. The vehicle's wartime prowess garnered a great deal of positive publicity, and not just within military circles. As a result, AM General (now under the ownership of the Renco Group) decided to introduce a civilian version of the Humvee, dubbed the Hummer, in 1992. In 1999, General Motors bought the rights to the Hummer brand name and became responsible for the development, marketing and distribution of future Hummer SUVs.
The original Hummer, called the H1, was sold for a few years as the brand's flagship vehicle. Production ended after 2006, but Hummer has been expanding its vehicle lineup to include vehicles that still possess the Hummer bravado but with more civilized road manners.

Hummer Rocks - 2005 Hummer H2
By Tyler - March 15 - 3:39 pmThe H2 Hummer is an awesome vehicle. Its off-road capability is unmatched and the highway ride is incredibly smooth and quiet. The uniqueness of the vehicle sets it apart from all other run-of-the-mill sport utility vehicles. They are easily accessorized to make yours unique. Many after market accessories are available. It is my favorite vehicle on the road.

Owned since 2009 - 2007 Hummer H3
By Andy - March 3 - 1:51 amGreat vehicle that is just at home in the urban crawl as the mountain trail. Great traction, ride , capability and while not an economy car...I did get 21 mpg on a road trip. The sunroof is huge and the turning radius is awesome. It looks good, runs good and while its not an H1 or H2 , its quite as impressive in a smaller package.

Fun to drive vehicle - 2005 Hummer H2
By FRANK COLLINS - February 26 - 1:22 pmThe 2005 hummer h2 is a very impressive, surprisingly smooth ,fun driving, truck. When it comes to fuel usage the rating is a little lower, but considering the size of the vehicle and the constant 4-wheel drive you know what to expect before purchasing this particular truck.

True review by owner - 2005 Hummer H2
By Really own one - February 22 - 1:52 pmTraded in an 04 Escalade . The Hummer is a great vehicle . However a few flaws , windows are very small and restrict visibility . Does not do too well in mud or ice, tire change would fix . Really fun to drive . If you add the winch to the front you can not open the hood - on the back cant swing open the tire w/o removing winch . Ride on highway is great / fair on dirt roads . 4wd is a 10, brakes are a 10 . All in all I am happy with this vehicle be sure you can get in and out of it easily. I find it is kinda hard to get in and out, but I am 50 . The Black leather really shows dirt . I would buy one again .

This H3 ROCKS! - 2006 Hummer H3
By This H3 ROCKS! - February 20 - 6:30 pmI just purchased the H3 a couple of days ago. I love this truck. I think this truck is so fun to drive, I am enjoying the 200 watt monsoon stereo. Everywhere I go, somebody makes a comment about the truck! I wanted to get the marker lights, but found out that they dont offer them anymore. I also wanted the chrome package( side mirrors, and handles), found out only available on the luxury package.

This is IT! - 2006 Hummer H3
By Josh & Heather - February 14 - 8:33 amMan do we love our hummer and wow you bet you can pack all the groceries you want and even others in it and its drives like a dream. A jeep cannot touch it and in fact nothing else can even come close to it and what else is also great about it is it wont break your bank account like most luxury autos will.
