Overview & Reviews
Why are Honda vehicles so highly regarded by American drivers? Certainly, their excellent reputation for reliability and quality is a major factor. But it also has to do with the overall driving and owning experience. Read any Honda review and you'll likely notice common themes such as thoughtful design, a friendly nature, better-than-average fuel economy and attention to safety.
Japan-based Honda Motor Company was founded in 1948 by Soichiro Honda. The company got its start making motorbikes. Japan had been rendered cash poor and fuel-starved after World War II, and its citizens were hurting for an inexpensive, fuel-efficient mode of transportation. Honda's first motorcycles mated engines with bicycles to create a motorbike that was cheap to make and operate.
Honda's bikes quickly evolved into vehicles far more sophisticated than small engines stuck into bicycle frames. The manufacturer's 1949 D-Type could reach speeds of up to 50 mph, and offered front and rear suspension. The 1950s saw the launch of the successful Juno scooter, built to steal market share from the Vespa knockoffs that were popular in Japan at that time. In the latter part of that decade, Honda introduced the ultra-successful C100 Super Cub. The motorbike was remarkably easy to operate and featured a crossbar-free frame that made it popular with women. It went on to become the first Honda motorbike sold in the U.S. via then-new American Honda Co. in 1959.
By the early 1960s, Honda had built its first automobiles for the Japanese home market and entered Formula One racing. But it wasn't until 1970 that it exported its first car, the diminutive N600, to the U.S. The automaker initially had a hard time sparking interest among American buyers, but that all changed in 1973 with the introduction of the Civic. The car was larger than Honda's previous models even though it was still very petite compared to compact American cars. The Civic's high fuel efficiency (an important selling point given that decade's energy crisis) and affordability made it Honda's first American success story. By 1976, the Civic had been joined by the Accord, which quickly became a favorite with U.S. consumers as well.
By the 1980s, Honda's success and its reputation as a maker of well-built reliable cars and motorcycles continued to grow. It began building Accords in the U.S. in 1982 and by 1989 had earned the distinction of making America's most popular car. This was also the decade in which Honda created the Acura brand as a way to sell more upscale and luxurious vehicles. Throughout this decade and into the 1990s, the Civic and Accord were huge sellers and considered class benchmarks. Also during this time, Honda continued to innovate through such technologies as variable valve timing, aluminum body construction and improved safety features.
Today, Honda's lineup runs the gamut. Included are fuel-sipping hybrids, a spacious minivan, reliable family sedans, practical SUVs and even a pickup. Although the latest Civic and Accord aren't quite the benchmarks they once were for their respective classes, Honda's brand as a whole continues to be one of the most well respected in the industry, with millions of loyal and satisfied customers.

So I bought the Hybrid - 2006 Honda Accord
By Barry - February 6 - 8:53 amI have been a long time owner of Accords. When they went to a 6 cylinder I was right there. Getting my hybrid was a chore but I finally got one and overall I am very happy with it. However there are a couple of quirks. 1. when the car shuts down (foot on brake) and you then move foot off the brake, you feel as if the transmission is going (feel a clunk). 2. Where is the gas mileage savings... Its just a drop above the regular 6. All things considered.. next car might be the regular 6.

Great Car! - 2005 Honda Civic
By AMM - February 6 - 1:23 amI purchased my Civic in July and then left on a 15000 mile cross country trip. As a four cylinder car, it doesnt shoot up the mountains but more than makes up for that in its handling ability. On the highway at crusing speeds of 75-89, it was wonderful and with cruise control on, the gas mileage was top notch (regularly 41 mpg). The interior of the car is spacious, given the compact size of the car and the features (radio, AC, etc.) are convenient and easy to reach.

Excellent - 2003 Honda Accord
By Robyn - February 5 - 12:20 pmThis car is amazing. Its so fast and so quiet. The interior has everything you can ask for... heated seats, all power, leather. This car is worth every penny. I had a previously had a 2003 civic. Everytime I accelerated it sounds like an old man trying to move. It was so loud and slow. This Accord car is one of Hondas best.

Great Value, Fun to Drive, Saves Gas $$ - 2008 Honda CR-V
By axcelle - February 5 - 6:46 amI bought my 08 CR-V in 11/07, and have put 15,000 miles on it driving all over the country for work in the past six months. Ive driven in the mountains, on the prairies, in ice, snow, floods - just about every weather condition. It handles beautifully everywhere. The only area I feel some pressure on the engine is on hilly highways. The ride is great, not too soft and not too stiff, and I am just thrilled with the MPG. I average 29-33 highway and 24-28 city in all kinds of weather. The build quality is very good, love the power features, love the exterior looks. I would like to have fog lights and a longer armrest, but thats about it! Great vehicle for a fantastic price. Get it!

Love it! - 2016 Honda CR-V
By Loren West - February 4 - 5:08 pmI have owned a 2010, 2014 and now the 2016 CR-V. The 2016 is the best yet! There are plenty of higher cost options, roomier SUVs but when considering my needs, value and total cost of ownership, this is an excellent vehicle. Very open at rear access allows hauling of many larger items. Would like the option for another engine but I am in flat terrain and the 4 cylinder is pretty peppy and meets my needs. Solid, quality and great re-sale value.

Great Sedan, would purchase again! - 2008 Honda Accord
By Josh - February 4 - 11:43 amThe car is fabulous, both inside and out. Im currently at 4,500 miles and the MPG gets better at each fill up. I drive 80-90% HWY, and am now starting to get almost 31 MPG. The first fill I got 28 MPG and then it was 29 MPG and last time was 30.5 MPG. Another great thing is oil changes, my dash indicator says 60% engine oil still available until it needs changed. Im under the assumption that I can go up to 10,000 miles before my 1st oil change!

Not just for young people - 2003 Honda Element
By sillig - February 4 - 10:00 amOur first Honda. The Element was purchased to replace our wrecked 90 Dodge Turbo Caravan. The upright windshield provides a commanding view. Comfortable adjustable seats, big easy to operate radio and ventilation controls. Two rear seats completely adjustable and comfortable with plenty of headroom and easy to put child seats in. Very very easy. The Element runs quietly on the highway at 58-62mph (my max speed). The Cruise is the best I have ever used. The Element is a joy to drive. It reeks of quality construction. Everything works just like its suppose to. At 250 miles this is a first impressions report.

great value - 2003 Honda Pilot
By Ace II - February 4 - 10:00 amThe Honda is a very sophisticated vehicle compared to my 10 year old Explorer and to all of the other 4WD vehicles I drive while on the job. It is fast, smooth, and has plenty of room for me (63) and my stuff (bikes, plywood, skis, etc). The interior is well thought out, and the powertrain is exceptionally smoth. Handling is excellent at low speeds; could be a bit firmer on the 62 mountain curves on my commute.

Scotts thoughts - 2004 Honda Pilot
By jackitup - February 4 - 10:00 amAfter 3 Nissan Pathfinders, I decided to make the switch, mainly due to my wifes Accord and its reliability. The Pilot is unequaled to any SUV I have traveled in or driven. Incredible ride, steering radius of a much small er vehicle, and simply a pleasure to drive......Great pickup too.
