Make Overview:

Why are Honda vehicles so highly regarded by American drivers? Certainly, their excellent reputation for reliability and quality is a major factor. But it also has to do with the overall driving and owning experience. Read any Honda review and you'll likely notice common themes such as thoughtful design, a friendly nature, better-than-average fuel economy and attention to safety.

Japan-based Honda Motor Company was founded in 1948 by Soichiro Honda. The company got its start making motorbikes. Japan had been rendered cash poor and fuel-starved after World War II, and its citizens were hurting for an inexpensive, fuel-efficient mode of transportation. Honda's first motorcycles mated engines with bicycles to create a motorbike that was cheap to make and operate.

Honda's bikes quickly evolved into vehicles far more sophisticated than small engines stuck into bicycle frames. The manufacturer's 1949 D-Type could reach speeds of up to 50 mph, and offered front and rear suspension. The 1950s saw the launch of the successful Juno scooter, built to steal market share from the Vespa knockoffs that were popular in Japan at that time. In the latter part of that decade, Honda introduced the ultra-successful C100 Super Cub. The motorbike was remarkably easy to operate and featured a crossbar-free frame that made it popular with women. It went on to become the first Honda motorbike sold in the U.S. via then-new American Honda Co. in 1959.

By the early 1960s, Honda had built its first automobiles for the Japanese home market and entered Formula One racing. But it wasn't until 1970 that it exported its first car, the diminutive N600, to the U.S. The automaker initially had a hard time sparking interest among American buyers, but that all changed in 1973 with the introduction of the Civic. The car was larger than Honda's previous models even though it was still very petite compared to compact American cars. The Civic's high fuel efficiency (an important selling point given that decade's energy crisis) and affordability made it Honda's first American success story. By 1976, the Civic had been joined by the Accord, which quickly became a favorite with U.S. consumers as well.

By the 1980s, Honda's success and its reputation as a maker of well-built reliable cars and motorcycles continued to grow. It began building Accords in the U.S. in 1982 and by 1989 had earned the distinction of making America's most popular car. This was also the decade in which Honda created the Acura brand as a way to sell more upscale and luxurious vehicles. Throughout this decade and into the 1990s, the Civic and Accord were huge sellers and considered class benchmarks. Also during this time, Honda continued to innovate through such technologies as variable valve timing, aluminum body construction and improved safety features.

Today, Honda's lineup runs the gamut. Included are fuel-sipping hybrids, a spacious minivan, reliable family sedans, practical SUVs and even a pickup. Although the latest Civic and Accord aren't quite the benchmarks they once were for their respective classes, Honda's brand as a whole continues to be one of the most well respected in the industry, with millions of loyal and satisfied customers.

All Civics are great vehicles. Ive owned two. Both were totaled, only reason Ive had to buy another car. 98 Civic totaled with me driving - hit on drivers side by head on collision by Chevy Malibu. Had to be pried out by Jaws of Life. Want to buy another Civic - only small bruises on my body!! Miracle Im not hurt worse. Only problem with car, front power window was going out. Will always recommend Hondas. Will never find a better vehicle!

  • Awesome all around suv at a great price! - 2005 Honda Pilot

I bought this for twins that have just arrived and i love this car! It is roomy with nice style although i liked the way the lexus rx330 looked a little better. However, the pilot blew it away with the extra room and all the great options(dvd system, running boards, etc.) For the same price. Highly recommend!!

I bought this car for myself as a 16th bday present to myself. I was originally going to buy the LX but my dad helped me out with getting a EX Navigation. I would really recommend it! One the test drive it handled well and was quick off the line. I wish I could have but a 2door tho.

  • So-so car - 2013 Honda Civic

Car is cute - love black leather interior. Not that great on gas...also with only 15000 miles on it, tires are wearing out

  • Honda quality, F1 performance. - 2007 Honda S2000

This vehicle will not run with a Corvette so do not even try. However, with that being said there is no other like it! The S2K is in a class all by itself when handling and looks are considered. The S2K is typical Honda quality with a fairly good amount of Hondas racing heritage mixed in. The 2.2L V-Tec doesnt produce a lot of low end torque but above 6K on the tachometer you better hold on. I recently had the chance to trade for a 2007 Boxster S and I just could not bring myself to do it. I love this car!

  • Wishful Thinking..... - 2018 Honda Ridgeline
    By -

Have been researching all of the new trucks available and have test driven just about all of them. Read numerous reviews and continue to dig deeper into all available info on the new 2nd generation Ridgeline. I own an older Tacoma and regardless of all of the comparisons, I am drawn to the new Ridgeline. Only one obstacle standing in the way at this point-have to sell my current ride in order to get into my Ridgeline. Patience required as I havent gotten a lot of bites so far. Its just a matter of time until I own my Ridgeline.....

  • Amazing - 2006 Honda S2000

I love my Honda S2000, it has a well designed engine with plenty of power to move. Its nimble cornering puts it at the very top of its class. No other car to me can really out perform the Honda S2000. As my first and last car I love my S2000.

  • So far, very good - 2008 Honda Element
    By -

After choosing a black 07 AWD, I changed my mind at the last minute and got a gray 08 SC because I liked the larger wheels, projector headlights, and more civilized interior trim (carpet). I have nothing but praise so far. Its comfortable, practical, fun and gets a lot more attention than I expected. At times I think its ugly, but it keeps some strange appeal in spite of it. Great feel on the highway, weak acceleration at the light, but after 40 mph, its a rocket. The interior features are very well thought-out and the audio is better than my 07 Acura TL. While the SC interior is softer, it remains a very utilitarian vehicle. Its great.

  • Something different and fun to drive - 2007 Honda Element
    By -

I needed to purchase a car with room. Ive always owned sports cars. I purchased my Ellie for a couple of reasons. The first is because I loved the looks of it, something different, not your typical SUV. Second is because I have a physical disability. I need to have room for my walker or when I go somewhere that I need to bring my scooter, I just have the back seats folded up and up the ramp it goes! No problem.
