Model Overview:

Although millions of full-size pickup trucks are sold each year, only a fraction of them actually see an off-road trail, a large travel trailer or a boat ramp. The rest are daily drivers that make an occasional trip to Home Depot for 2x4s and patio furniture. For those consumers who desire a less bulky, less thirsty alternative that can still handle those occasional jobs, there's the Honda Ridgeline. This four-door ("crew cab") pickup truck has a number of distinctive features and, true to Honda's philosophy, it makes sense for smart consumers.

Current Honda Ridgeline
The Honda Ridgeline pickup is available in just one four-door body style. There are five trim levels: RT, Sport, RTS, RTL and top-of-the line SE. The Ridgeline's sole powertrain is a 250-horsepower V6 mated to a five-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is standard.

Standard feature highlights for the base RT include a power-sliding rear window, air-conditioning, a 60/40-split lift-up rear seat, a rearview camera, full power accessories, and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player. Moving up through the other trims adds luxuries such as alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power driver seat, upgraded audio systems, heated seats, leather seating and a navigation system with voice recognition and Bluetooth phone connectivity.

Rather than having a separate cab and bed, the Ridgeline's body unites the two. The Ridgeline's architecture combines the techniques of both unibody and full-frame construction. All Ridgelines include a hidden trunk in the cargo bed that doubles as an ice chest, a dent-proof bedliner, a four-wheel independent suspension (for a smoother ride and more agile handling) and a trailer hitch. Maximum towing capacity stands at 5,000 pounds.

In all but the most taxing situations, performance is respectable, and on the open highway the Honda Ridgeline is an effortless and quiet cruiser. As such, it is an ideal road trip vehicle, especially when said trip involves carrying bulky items. That easy-going demeanor, along with comfortable seats, plentiful storage cubbies, sound ergonomics and a relatively manageable size make the Honda Ridgeline a viable option as the sole family vehicle. While the cabin provides sedan-like comfort, the cargo bed effortlessly transports things such as camping gear or lawn supplies. Criticisms include the Ridgeline's aversion to off-road adventures, where its lack of a low-range gear and a tendency to bottom out don't help when tackling more rugged trails. Fuel economy for a V6-powered pickup is also disappointing.

If these shortcomings are meaningful to you, then you'll want to consider a pickup with true truck DNA. But if all you really need is the passenger space of an SUV and the utility of a pickup truck, the Ridgeline is an excellent choice.

Used Honda Ridgeline Models
The Ridgeline was introduced for the 2006 model year, available in RT, RTS and RTL trim levels. The following year the chrome-accented RTX debuted. There were only minor features updates until '09, when the RTX trim was dropped and the exterior and interior styling was updated.

Things stayed pat until 2012, when a new grille design and a new Sport trim level debuted, the latter slotted between the RT and RTS trims. That year also saw minor aerodynamic improvements and engine tweaks that boosted highway mileage by a single mpg. The following year brought a standard rearview camera for all trim levels.

Ive had my Ridgeline for 4 months now and have really enjoyed every minute of it. I have to fight my wife to drive it. It drives and rides better than my Honda Van. This is a great truck and you will know it when you get in one and drive it. Ive seen only a few on the road since I bought mine and when you see someone driving one you both have that same look. The look of the satisfaction. You both know what the other is experiencing. cjh

Ive now had the vehicle a month. So far driving the Ridgline has been a pleasure; its comfortable, roomy and rides like my old 525i. Wind noise is minimal for a large vehicle and the mileage has been better than expected. I average 20-21 mpg with 80-20% highway to city driving. I cant wait to see what it will be when its broken in.

  • Dream Truck - 2017 Honda Ridgeline

This truck is very comfortable to drive/ride in. Plenty of front seat room and adequate rear seat room for passengers. With the rear seats folded up there is plenty of room for dogs or hauling groceries. The handy lockable trunk in the truck bed is very nice for things that you dont want to load in the cab. Drives very smooth. This truck may not be the truck for people that want a true truck. This is more like a luxury SUV with a truck bed. Still have not tested the AWD features.

This truck handles like a dream. It is the only truck Ive driven that drives and rides like a very well made suv. It reminds me of a BMW suv without the price tag and the unreliability. I have managed 18 mpg.

  • Ridgeline RTL - 2006 Honda Ridgeline

I love my new Ridgeline. Comfort and utility with Honda quality, there is just no comparison to other vehicles. (Especially since its Hondas only truck.) The interior is suprisingly roomy, I can have 3 childrens seats in the back and two adults in the front with plenty of legroom. The sound system is very good and Im enjoying the XM radio and CD changer that came with the vehicle. The ride is a lot more like a car than a truck, broad wheel base and low COG make for low body roll. The 244hp engine is very peppy and responsive. Innovative storage inside and out, 2-way bed door, in bed trunk (You must see if you havent), under rear seat cargo tray and adjustable console between front seats.

I love this truck Ive had it a couple weeks now and its great. I wish it had a couple extra cup holders, theres only four if the rear center console is up for 5 passengers. Ive had 5 trucks and this is the best ever.

  • A New Benchmark for Trucks - 2006 Honda Ridgeline

It took Honda a long time to decide to build a pickup, but I am glad they finally did. This truck is fantastic. I had a 2004 Toyota Tacoma before the Ridgeline. What a difference! The Honda is vastly superior in every respect. Its design is very intelligent. The ride is amazing! Its simply the best riding truck ever. It is roomy and comfortable. The trunk in the truck bed and the two-way tailgate are wonderful features. It has standard 4 wheel drive, traction control and side air curtains. Since its a Honda, it will do well in crash tests. It has plenty of power and gets decent mileage on regular. All in all, it is a versatile truck that others will be copying for years.

  • Unbelievable value - 2018 Honda Ridgeline

This truck has great features that other large competitors do not offer. First the lower trunk storage in the truck bed is great for groceries or putting dirty work boots in. You can spray it out and pull the drain plug tonlet it drain out. Tailgate folds down like normal and also swings like a door making it super easy to access lower storage and anything that is in the truck bed.
