Model Overview:

Although millions of full-size pickup trucks are sold each year, only a fraction of them actually see an off-road trail, a large travel trailer or a boat ramp. The rest are daily drivers that make an occasional trip to Home Depot for 2x4s and patio furniture. For those consumers who desire a less bulky, less thirsty alternative that can still handle those occasional jobs, there's the Honda Ridgeline. This four-door ("crew cab") pickup truck has a number of distinctive features and, true to Honda's philosophy, it makes sense for smart consumers.

Current Honda Ridgeline
The Honda Ridgeline pickup is available in just one four-door body style. There are five trim levels: RT, Sport, RTS, RTL and top-of-the line SE. The Ridgeline's sole powertrain is a 250-horsepower V6 mated to a five-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is standard.

Standard feature highlights for the base RT include a power-sliding rear window, air-conditioning, a 60/40-split lift-up rear seat, a rearview camera, full power accessories, and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player. Moving up through the other trims adds luxuries such as alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power driver seat, upgraded audio systems, heated seats, leather seating and a navigation system with voice recognition and Bluetooth phone connectivity.

Rather than having a separate cab and bed, the Ridgeline's body unites the two. The Ridgeline's architecture combines the techniques of both unibody and full-frame construction. All Ridgelines include a hidden trunk in the cargo bed that doubles as an ice chest, a dent-proof bedliner, a four-wheel independent suspension (for a smoother ride and more agile handling) and a trailer hitch. Maximum towing capacity stands at 5,000 pounds.

In all but the most taxing situations, performance is respectable, and on the open highway the Honda Ridgeline is an effortless and quiet cruiser. As such, it is an ideal road trip vehicle, especially when said trip involves carrying bulky items. That easy-going demeanor, along with comfortable seats, plentiful storage cubbies, sound ergonomics and a relatively manageable size make the Honda Ridgeline a viable option as the sole family vehicle. While the cabin provides sedan-like comfort, the cargo bed effortlessly transports things such as camping gear or lawn supplies. Criticisms include the Ridgeline's aversion to off-road adventures, where its lack of a low-range gear and a tendency to bottom out don't help when tackling more rugged trails. Fuel economy for a V6-powered pickup is also disappointing.

If these shortcomings are meaningful to you, then you'll want to consider a pickup with true truck DNA. But if all you really need is the passenger space of an SUV and the utility of a pickup truck, the Ridgeline is an excellent choice.

Used Honda Ridgeline Models
The Ridgeline was introduced for the 2006 model year, available in RT, RTS and RTL trim levels. The following year the chrome-accented RTX debuted. There were only minor features updates until '09, when the RTX trim was dropped and the exterior and interior styling was updated.

Things stayed pat until 2012, when a new grille design and a new Sport trim level debuted, the latter slotted between the RT and RTS trims. That year also saw minor aerodynamic improvements and engine tweaks that boosted highway mileage by a single mpg. The following year brought a standard rearview camera for all trim levels.

  • I am still the luckiest truck owner in the world. - 2017 Honda Ridgeline

I bought a 2017 Ridgeline in June of 2016, when they first hit the dealerships. I have owned pick-ups since 1975; 3/4 ton Chevrolet, then 1/2 ton Chevrolet, then 1998 Nissan Frontier (4x4). The Ridgeline is a light duty truck, but it is the perfect truck for the "I need a truck every now and then" owner. I installed a Trac-Rac sliding rail rack on the bed, and it is perfect for long lumber or the kayak. And I absolutely love the compartment in the rear, and the two-way tailgate. I keep the rear seat folded up, and the back-seat floor is great for big dogs. And honestly, I like driving the Ridgeline more than any vehicle we have owned. It is the most comfortable vehicle we have ever owned, no doubt. It has power and torque up the gazinga, handles like a big SUV, and is so quiet and comfortable it does not seem like a truck. And heated seats. I thought that feature was somewhat decadent, until I heated up my seat on a recent freezing cold morning. And finally, its a Honda. Nothing has gone wrong in the first six months, and I expect that to continue. We owned Hondas (Accords) for twenty years, and they were absolutely trouble free and reliable.

  • Excellent Purchase - 2006 Honda Ridgeline

My first pick up experience. Have driven lots of 4X4s. Extrememly smooth ride on the open road. Great handling, great tight turning ratio, very, very roomy in the front. Honda took everything into consideration when planning the Ridgeline from the fold up back seats to the two way tailgate. Lets not forget the trunk space, what a novel idea! Lets not forget all the storage space in the cab itself. Cudos to the designers on this one.

  • Comfy, zippy, quiet ride and, boy, this bed trunk. - 2017 Honda Ridgeline

I went through Tacoma, Canyon, Ridgeline and Colorado. Exactly in that order. Money wise Colorado is your best but its also the worst in terms of design, handling and overall quality. Canyon is just little better but still far inferior to Tacoma. Both Colorado and Canyon are example how not to design interior of small tuck, imo its just horrible. Tacoma low sitting position is beyond awkward and the best off road capability is not sell option for me in Florida where I live. I was surprise how good Ridgeline stands among others - roomy interior, very good quality fit and finish, SUV like ride and this bed trunk where Im diving so very often for my tools. I have bed where I can lay flat 4x8 and dual action tailgate to dive into the trunk. For me bed trunk is huge advantage cos any tool box installed on bed render it somehow useless. Ridgeline is not perfect ( which truck is ? ) I found quite annoying that rear cab doors cant be fully open to 90 deg.

  • So Far So Good - 2006 Honda Ridgeline

My first impressions are: Nice lay out, trunk in bed great idea, exterior style different but seems functional, lights in bed area nice touch. Cruise control button in bad spot. More to come as I put the miles on.

  • "Sleeper" Hit - 2006 Honda Ridgeline

A great truck. There are most places and methods to store things than I know what to do with. If youre doing big loads in the back it may not be the best option since the bed is a little stumpy. But for doing things that almost any normal person needs to do it works very well. Having 3 outlets is also nice for what I do. The oil-meter lets you know when its about time for a tune-up. For me, its been around 5000 between trips to the dealer, which is much better than expected. I average around 20-21 mpg commuting etc.

  • All the bells and whistles! - 2017 Honda Ridgeline

I upgraded from my 2008 Ridgeline to the 2017 Black Edition Ridgeline. It looks sharp, has all the bells and whistles, comfortable and quiet. I has everything I wanted in the new Ridgeline.

  • RIDGE HAS IT ALL - 2006 Honda Ridgeline

The Ridgeline RTL is the best all around truck out there. Towing capacity of 5000 pounds and room for five comfortably. The inbed lockable trunk is the best feature, along with a bedliner that comes stock. The interior is plush comfortable leather and the touch screen navigation is the most technologically advanced that I have seen from any factory brand. The RTL model is truly the way to go in my opinion, a wide open moonroof and electric rear sliding window simply top off this design. And above all its a Honda so it will keep its value far far longer than any American truck that you are thinking about. Honda really did it right from the fuel economy to the rugged design.

  • Would buy again - 2006 Honda Ridgeline

I do everything with my ridgeline that I need to like haul yard waste, trips to Home Depot, Highway trips, visits to construction sites AND tow trailers. Its road manners are 1st place for a pickup. While I havent buried it in mud yet;It got an A+ from me during the last few snow storms in Wisconsin. The VSA kept me going staright down the road even on ice (nice) Interior is perfect for tall people. At 6-2 250 I have plenty of room. The front seats are just fine for 4.5hour drives. And the stereo has plenty of clarity and punch (especially with the Ipod link) With towing&hauling I have yet to want more power. I put 600lbs of soil in the back and it handled like there was none.

  • Solid Truck - 2006 Honda Ridgeline

I was a little leary of buying a first- year model vehicle, but having previously owned 4 other Hondas, I decided the risk was somewhat low. I have not been disappointed. The vehicle is well-built, extremely functional and versatile both as a family vehicle and for hauling typical household project supplies, such as wall board, paneling, cabinets, etc. Yes, the material may hang out over he tailgate by a foot and a half, or over the tailgate, but I dont find that an issue for traveling between Lowes and my house. The bed is plenty wide (over 48") to contain anything I have needed so far. Excellent vehicle, excellent quality.
