Model Overview:

Although millions of full-size pickup trucks are sold each year, only a fraction of them actually see an off-road trail, a large travel trailer or a boat ramp. The rest are daily drivers that make an occasional trip to Home Depot for 2x4s and patio furniture. For those consumers who desire a less bulky, less thirsty alternative that can still handle those occasional jobs, there's the Honda Ridgeline. This four-door ("crew cab") pickup truck has a number of distinctive features and, true to Honda's philosophy, it makes sense for smart consumers.

Current Honda Ridgeline
The Honda Ridgeline pickup is available in just one four-door body style. There are five trim levels: RT, Sport, RTS, RTL and top-of-the line SE. The Ridgeline's sole powertrain is a 250-horsepower V6 mated to a five-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is standard.

Standard feature highlights for the base RT include a power-sliding rear window, air-conditioning, a 60/40-split lift-up rear seat, a rearview camera, full power accessories, and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player. Moving up through the other trims adds luxuries such as alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power driver seat, upgraded audio systems, heated seats, leather seating and a navigation system with voice recognition and Bluetooth phone connectivity.

Rather than having a separate cab and bed, the Ridgeline's body unites the two. The Ridgeline's architecture combines the techniques of both unibody and full-frame construction. All Ridgelines include a hidden trunk in the cargo bed that doubles as an ice chest, a dent-proof bedliner, a four-wheel independent suspension (for a smoother ride and more agile handling) and a trailer hitch. Maximum towing capacity stands at 5,000 pounds.

In all but the most taxing situations, performance is respectable, and on the open highway the Honda Ridgeline is an effortless and quiet cruiser. As such, it is an ideal road trip vehicle, especially when said trip involves carrying bulky items. That easy-going demeanor, along with comfortable seats, plentiful storage cubbies, sound ergonomics and a relatively manageable size make the Honda Ridgeline a viable option as the sole family vehicle. While the cabin provides sedan-like comfort, the cargo bed effortlessly transports things such as camping gear or lawn supplies. Criticisms include the Ridgeline's aversion to off-road adventures, where its lack of a low-range gear and a tendency to bottom out don't help when tackling more rugged trails. Fuel economy for a V6-powered pickup is also disappointing.

If these shortcomings are meaningful to you, then you'll want to consider a pickup with true truck DNA. But if all you really need is the passenger space of an SUV and the utility of a pickup truck, the Ridgeline is an excellent choice.

Used Honda Ridgeline Models
The Ridgeline was introduced for the 2006 model year, available in RT, RTS and RTL trim levels. The following year the chrome-accented RTX debuted. There were only minor features updates until '09, when the RTX trim was dropped and the exterior and interior styling was updated.

Things stayed pat until 2012, when a new grille design and a new Sport trim level debuted, the latter slotted between the RT and RTS trims. That year also saw minor aerodynamic improvements and engine tweaks that boosted highway mileage by a single mpg. The following year brought a standard rearview camera for all trim levels.

  • US carmakers take note! - 2008 Honda Ridgeline

So my 1999 Chevy Blazer goes down with a broken crankshaft, which is funny cause I just about replaced everything else on it. Well I really cant complain 200,000 miles later. So a friend turns me on to the Ridgeline. Since the first test drive I still wonder why people buy Chevy and Ford. The Ridgeline offers a comfortable smooth car-like ride while keeping the power and durability of a truck. A wider wheelbase and higher elevation makes driving easier with better sight of the road and amazing handling. No blind spots and sweet take off power.

  • Better than first impressions - 2008 Honda Ridgeline

Found the Ridgeline does not stand out out in any one area, however it does do everything very well. Performance is Ok if you get on it hard enough there is just a ton of storage room (more than it looks 15 in the city and 19 on the highway and it seems to be getting better. I have 4000 miles on it now and no problems. Some rattles and squeaks from the front dash corners by the windscreen where the speakers are which will be repaired at its first service. I am liking my ridgeline more and more as I drive it. Under the back seat fits my golf bag with the seats down:)I would recommend this vehicle to anyone with realistic expectations

  • We love this truck! - 2008 Honda Ridgeline

We have had this truck for a little over four months now. There is not much not to love about it. We have three kids that ride in the back. There is more leg room than other comparable size trucks and the under seat storage is great. We have towed our camper with absolutely no problems. As a matter of fact, it is hard to tell were towing something, it rides so smooth and strong. It is a classy vehicle to drive and does turn heads.

Best vehicle I have ever owned. I would replace with the same make and model.

  • Great Except for Fuel Economy - 2008 Honda Ridgeline

This vehicle is superior in almost every way except for fuel economy. Operating cost for gas alone takes away the other cost savings of ownership.

  • Nobody wants this truck, and heres why - 2017 Honda Ridgeline
    By -

This truck is not what Americans want to buy, and Im going to explain to you why. 1) Styling - This truck is styled to look sleek and urban... when Americans buy trucks, they want something that looks mean, aggressive, and tough, never-mind 99% of usage is commuting to work. 2) Two Rating - Americans want trucks that can tow over 10,000 lbs, never-mind 95% will never tow anything and 99% will not exceed the 5000 lbs this truck is capable of. 3) Cargo Capacity - Americans want a truck that can hold at least 1,500 lbs in the bed... wait, this truck can do that too. 4) Handling & Ride Comfort - Americans want a truck that sways to the side when turning and rides rough, this truck will never do. 5) Wide Bed - Americans dont want to be able to fit a piece of 4x8 plywood flat in the bed, they want it to have to be angled-in... it just makes sense. 6) Drives like a Car - This truck handles like a mid-sized SUV and corners like a champ thanks to torque vectoring. Trucks are supposed to be difficult to drive, to ensure you take corners slow. 7) AWD - Real trucks have 4x4, that way the power is never there when you need it in real-world conditions like rain covered roads or spotty ice/snow. 8) In-Bed Storage - Americans know all they want to haul in their truck is landscaping bricks and hay bails, what would they ever use the lockable under-bed storage for? 9) Compact Spare - Americans need a full size spare, for the once-every-five-years they get a flat with a loaded trailer or in off-road conditions. 10) Swing-open tailgate - Tailgates are only supposed to open one way, we want to crawl in the bed to get to items in the front. 11) V6 - It doesnt matter this truck can tow 5000 lbs and carry 1500 lbs, Americans need to support the oil and gas industry - we need V8 power! 12) In-bed-Inverter - Americans dont want 110 volts in the bed, keep it in the cab, and well run extension cords for our tailgating activities. 13) Go-pro mount - How do you expect us to capture our drive to work without a go-pro mount in the winshield? Everybody on youtube wants to see my drive to work! As you can see, this truck clearly isnt built for Americans... but if youre arent American, or if you want to buy a truck for the specs/features youll use instead of the specs/features that look good on paper, then you might just enjoy this truck as much as I do.

  • Best Ive ever bought - 2008 Honda Ridgeline
    By -

When replacing a Ford Ranger I looked into the Colorado, Dakota and Tacoma. Thought the Ridgeline was out of my price range. After not getting what I wanted in the above three, I went to the Honda dealership. Boy am I glad I did. The purchase price (cash, no trade- in) was a grand less than the Tacoma. Ive had it for 8 months now and am completely satisfied. Its still fun to drive. I take it to out-of town ASA tourneys all the time. It has plenty of interior room for the passengers and plenty of storage for the softball equipment. The ride is amazing. Its smoother than the wifes Accord. Id recommend the Ridgeline to anyone.

  • Works In Northern Canada Too! - 2008 Honda Ridgeline
    By -

We had always owned a Chev or GMC before in Northern BC Canada,it can be tough driving in the winter so we were concerned about moving away from the large size vehicle. However after our first 3 or 4 months we have nothing but good things to say about the vehicle and the service from Honda. Our other vehicle had always been a Toyota so it was nice to see good service at Honda as well. GMC and Especially Ford could learn a lot on how to service customers. Lastly if I was asked what weakness this truck had I would say that a more efficient diesel option would have been great. Driving Duramax diesels before exposed us to the benefits of that type of engine. Its been our best vehicle buy.

  • Ridgeline is ideal. - 2008 Honda Ridgeline
    By -

Im an IT Consultant and lug around a lot of technical tools. Its nice to be able to store them in the lockable, waterproof trunk. This frees up the cab for the dog and friends. Adequate power from the V6 and I really like its look. Black with standard gray interior. I also like the fact that it comes with a XM radio enabled stereo ready to activate.
