I bought mine in 2003, soon afer I had problems with. The first major problem was the in take valve gasket went out that cost $400. That last for 3 years, then same problem repeated. There is problem with transmission. Once in while it would shift very rough but goes away after turn off and restart it.

I bought the 1999 Honda Passport because I had heard what great vehicles Honda made - well guess what its not a (true) Honda -should have done my homework better! This has been the worse car Ive owned, looking to get rid of it now! Replaced transmission 11/8/4, hmmm bought it 11/18/98. Everything seems to be breaking not only the major things but minor things too!!! Looking to buy a Toyota now....

  • Please Rethink - 1999 Honda Passport

Just wanted to save some people the heartache of owning one of these. I bought the extended warranty on this vehicle and have gotten my money back and then some. Major problems: Transmission is sealed and very expensive to have serviced, shocks blown at 50k miles, leaks at door seals, ignition coils went out at 70k miles.

I have owned alot of vehicles in my life and by far this is the worst one yet! What an embarrassment to Honda the passport was. All the problems you read about in the other reviews I have had all of them. Honda makes a good product but to bad they didnt make this one (its an Isuzu). DO NOT BUY A 1999 OR NEWER PASSPORT, THAY ARE JUNK RIGHT OFF THE DEALER FLOOR!!! If you are looking for a mid size suv buy a pathfinder.

The Passport was bought used with 30K miles. In less than a year, the ABS system had to be replaced, the Check Engine light enables & disenables on a regular basis, the gas gauge broke & the component for that was replaced, & the computer require "adjustment". The worst thing of all, while driving & no method to the madness, the engine simply turns off. Its an automatic & is very difficult to stop without the engine on. I sincerely fear for my & my childrens lives (age 7 mos. & 8 years). Honda should take some responsibility for this one.

  • $28,000 DOWN THE TUBE! - 1999 Honda Passport

This vehicle has been a money pit! I bought it with 5,000 miles on it and paid over $25,000! It has been junk. The back window has always squeaked. The remote key entrys both broke within a few months. THE whole ABS brake system had to be replaced. The ENGINE had major repair damage this summer costing over $5,000 AND my gas gage stays on empty ALL THE TIME...ANOTHER REPAIR! oh YEAH! I have had another thing repaired that cost over $350 but I cant even remember what is was...NOTHING has been under warranty because the miles. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY IT HAS BEEN!

The vehicle developed problem with multiple systems - engine, brakes, emissions, and electric. Very unreliable for a new vehicle. Poor quality.

  • Worst Car Ever - 1999 Honda Passport

The car was in the shop every 3 months. Maybe the reason is that it is NOT a Honda but a ISUZU.

  • What a lemon! - 1999 Honda Passport

This truck was nothing but trouble! It spent weeks on end in the shop for check engine light problems, blown computer board, and not going into park. After taking the truck back to the dealer numerous times and writing several stern letters to corporate, I was finally able to get out from under the lousy truck and back into a 2001 Accord. The Accord has been flawless. Stay away from the Passport!!! Dont forget, Isuzu, who makes the Passport is like 50% owned by GM!
