Overview & Reviews
Honda brings North America the first gasoline-electric hybrid for 2000.
- Unbelievable fuel economy, cool electronic display, lots of standard equipment.
- Batteries drain fast under continual electric motor assist, highly susceptible to cross winds, interior cramped for two large adults.

2000 Honda Insight - 2000 Honda Insight
By atlaw4u - October 29 - 11:11 amI purchased a used 2000 Insight after researching this car for months on several forums inclduing insightcentral.net and I love it. It is excellent at its intended purpose- incredible MPG. I would also consider it a drivers car. If you drive correctly you will be rewarded but drive wrong and you will be punished. My mileage varies from 70mpg to 90+mpg but a few users have only seen 45+mpg. This car is also a compromise. You give up many things for that ultimate MPG. Due to its design, there is more road noise and the suspension leaves a little to be desired among others. But compromise in a few areas and you will be driving and enjoying one of the greenest cars on the planet.

Sports Car? - 2000 Honda Insight
By Mike - September 26 - 9:41 pmWhile this is my wifes car I do most of the driving. She drives for high mpg I drive to see how many people I can surprise by going faster than others. Needless to say our average mpg for 40000 miles is 48. I read in some of the reviews people calling it a good handling car. Not even close, its just a point and shoot vehicle. Gears 1, 2 & 3 for acceleration (3rd is good for 80 mph and the batteries are being charged!) 4th & 5th are strictly cruising gears, no torque at all. I had to buy a fastener for the rear spat...$17.00 for a screw!! Must be made from gold.

Drive what you need! - 2000 Honda Insight
By Firecracker - June 27 - 10:58 pmI never considered the insight until a technology savvy person convinced me to test drive it. (I was not keen on the side skirts) Once I did I loved it and traded my Audi A6 in on the spot. Best decision I ever made! My lifestyle was very welcoming to a Honda Insight. I have been excited to drive it every day for the past 2.5 years. There is always a smug look on my face when I drive through the gas station past all the SUV owners and walk inside, just to get a soda! The thing is most people dont drive what they need. All seem to own a vehicle that could move a whole house if necessary. I say, buy the insight for the rest of the days you are not on the move to save $$$

5 Years Later - 2000 Honda Insight
By Carl Abert - February 5 - 5:22 pmCar has excceeded my expectations. The MPG for 122K+ miles is 70.5 MPG. Coming from a Dakota, gas consumption has been reduced by 700+ gallons a year. Do the math. While a bit underpowered, the 5 speed manual allows for compensation. Wheres the Insight II with 90 MPG or so...?

cant beat the gas mileage! - 2000 Honda Insight
By hempist - May 27 - 2:00 amIve owned this car for 1 1/2 years and Im very happy with it. The gas mileage is the best! I get about 58 mph driving around town. The steering wheel is small & sporty, the car handles great around corners. The most common questions Im asked are, "Do you have to charge it?" (NO) and "Does it go fast?" (YES). This car is a real conversation piece. People ask me about it everywhere I go.

Insightful - 2000 Honda Insight
By Mithril - October 15 - 2:00 amIve had this car for just over a year and am mostly happy with it though it doesnt make for a good winter car as it is too light. Road noise is a bit harsh also.
