  • So far so Great! - 2016 Honda HR-V

I had been on the hunt for a new car for several months (luckily my previous Escape had been running great so I had time to shop!). Moving from an SUV, I wanted something a little more fun to drive, with better fuel efficiency, but without sacrificing too much space. I had narrowed down my search to the Corolla, the Hyundai Elantra GT, and the HR-V (Yes, 3 very different cars, I know). After endless pros and cons lists, multiple test drives, reading every review on the web, and making myself insane meeting many different car salesmen, I finally opted for the higher investment with the HR-V. As soon as I made the decision I felt relief. Now having had the car for about a week, I have already packed it full for an art show and have a road trip schedule. This car is fantastic! A little sluggish on the pickup, the sport mode gives it a little more "oomph" to improve the driving experience. I really enjoy using the paddle shifters as well. The road noise is very quiet when in drive mode, but when in Sport mode, the CVT shifts a bit higher and is definitely a little louder, but still far quieter than my Escape was. I opted for the EX, as this option adds a moonroof, heated seats, and side view camera (when turning right) and only added about $2000 to the price. One thing I have noticed that Im not the fondest of, is the extreme lumbar support in the drivers seat. I think that, due to my small stature, this will take some getting used to. I also wish Honda offered a powered drivers seat option for the EX model (I dont think they even offer it for the EX-L either). In a nut shell, if your looking for something that drives like a car, gets great gas mileage, and has the capacity of a small SUV and will last you forever, this is the car!

Im still happy with my HR-V because of the economics, not a gas guzzler. The acceleration is fine under normal situations. However, when at a complete stop, if I accelerate quickly, it doesnt respond well or when merging onto the highway...if I press on the gas pedal heavily, it wont move out as quick as I want, but these are rare situations and now I know what to expect. The interior is quite roomy, seats are comfortable, but manual. Theres plenty of leg room, rear seats can fold down or lifted up for traveling with bulky cargo. I live in an region where winters are rough on cars. In traffic, I had to brake quickly and the car just slid. I was in an area where salt trucks arent out as often as where I live or maybe they couldnt keep up with the continuously falling snow. I like listening to music on the radio, unfortunately my car doesnt indicate the names of songs/artists automatically. The manual was not helpful on this subject. The Honda HR-V is reliable, still kind of new so its expected.

I saw this car was going to be released this past Spring, so I waited to see it before decided on a new car to purchase. I like everything about it, but as some reviews indicate, after driving it a while, it starts to make noises that seem to come from the back seat on the drivers side. I initially thought it was the cargo I was carrying or perhaps the wheel and other stuff stored under, but Ive checked and everything seems secure. Its weird though. Seems to only happen at low speeds under 35-40 mph. My passengers hear it as well. The second week I had it the wheels seemed to make noise and drag, but it eventually stopped, so I didnt get checked. Now this noise. Perhaps they are related. Ive had my first oil change, but forgot to ask them to check to see why all the noise. I expected quality from Honda brand, especially in a brand new car! I see Im not alone. The HR-V has noise issues after driving for a while. I already got a recall notice, but not for this issue.

  • Great...except...rocks behind the brake plate? - 2016 Honda HR-V
    By -

I love this car...except two weeks in it was making a horrible noise. The noise stopped and the dealer told me a rock had probably gotten stuck behind the brake plate. Freak occurrence, right? Then, it happened again yesterday, while driving in a rainstorm in unfamiliar territory. I stopped the car, then accelerated quickly and the noise went away. A second freak occurrence? I will check with the dealer when Im back home. Feels like a rough start 6 weeks in.

  • They tried to sell it 4K over MSRP. - 2016 Honda HR-V

And another dealer tried to sell it 2,500 over MSRP. Trust me, that didnt fly. Additional Markup, they said, because the car is so pupular.

  • HR-V needs to grow - 2016 Honda HR-V

If youre more than average-size this vehicle is not for you. I did enjoy every aspect of the the car as far as performance, look and technology. The space for even the driver is on the smaller side and my wife who has long legs felt that her knees were practically in her face. love it but needs more room. (Felt the same about the CR-V, also.

  • Great Car - 2016 Honda HR-V

Pros: Gas mileage. I get 27 in town and up to 36 on the highway in the AWD EX Space/cargo area (my brother and my self are just over 6 feet tall and plenty of room for legs and head in rear) Good visibility Engine very quiet. ***A lot of people are saying that this engine has no power. Coming from driving many v8s over the years and still have a v8 camaro, this engine does just fine with power. If your expecting a rocket ship however, this car is not for you. Cons : USB Port and rear drivers seat rattle. Going over bumps the rear drivers seat rattles, might be from the flexibility of the seat. Will have it checked at dealership sometime soon. No automatic hatch lift. Back up camera is not really to scale and easy to back into something. Better off using the old fashioned way of turning around to check your surroundings I would recommend to a friend though..good overall car for what you pay

  • My little HR Vie - 2016 Honda HR-V

Nice small crossover for its class with plenty of trunk space. Biggest downer on this vehicle is the trunk door. It is heavy and someone who is short like myself has a hard time closing it. Need two hands to close the door shut which is difficult if you have other things you are carrying. The car needs a power lift gate and should have been included in the EX-L trim.

  • 21st Century luxury - 2016 Honda HR-V

I wanted to drive my HR for a while before I wrote a review. Lets start with my needs. To begin with, the last time I bought a car was 1998 so things have changed a lot - USB ports, backup cameras, push button start, heated seats. I love it all. I was looking for a car that would fit in my garage so it had to be less than 175 inches long. I wanted AWD because I will be moving to Denver in a few years when I retire. I also wanted cargo space for trips to Home Depot. I wanted leather seats. They last longer and its easier to get in & out of the car. I promised my son I would get 4 doors this time because it was difficult to get my grandsons car seat in and out of my old car. The HR met all my needs and then some. The only problem I had was with the drivers seat. Im short and my specific back issue needs the seat straight up, not tilted back. That caused the headrest to tilt too far forward. I took the head rest completely off, but that didnt give my neck any support. I finally put the headrest back on, but backwards. Now its perfect. (short people problems!) Sometimes I think this car is so automatic, I could take a nap on my way to work. The headlights are set to automatic, the temperature is set to stay the same all year round. The audio plays my MP3 player, and my Android phone is synced up. In short Im very satisfied with my choice. It truly is 21st century luxury.

  • overall a good car, but some compromises - 2016 Honda HR-V

I finally ended up with this car after going back and forth between the Subaru Crosstrek and Honda CR-V. Keep in mind this is a $19k (starting) car based off of the Fit. Interior quality is OK. Looks nice but lots of hard plastic, fabric doors on LX/EX trims (picks up dirt very easily), every panel flexes when you push it. Ergonomics are a bit weird: armrests are low and short and essentially useless. Seat bottoms are a bit short and theres no adjustable lumbar. Because the gas tank is under the front seats, it limits the adjustability. Passenger gets no height adjustment. However, there is plenty of space for passengers - check out the rear legroom! Gauges are nice, screen is easy to see in most conditions, the touchscreen HVAC is not my favorite - hard to use while driving - but looks nice and is responsive. I love the lighted vanity mirrors and the ability to slide them to block more of the sun. A/C and heat are fine. A/C will suffer in ECO mode for those in very hot climates. Seat warmers could be a bit hotter (I got used to the ON FIRE levels of German cars haha) but overall are fine. Tech is good enough. Spotify is not supported (only Pandora), so sometimes the song info doesnt show up from my iPhone. Audio quality in general is okay - typical Honda (mediocre). Bluetooth is easy to set up and sound quality is very clear! Everything is easy to use and I experience very few glitches. I love the backup camera and lanewatch is a must have! One MAJOR problem I have is with the safety ratings: check out the IIHS side impact test. Not sure what Honda was doing/thinking there... NVH is a bit poor IMO. The car is very rough over bumps and road imperfections. Noise levels are okay in the city but on the fwy at high speeds the wind noise is a bit much. Nothing crazy but Honda could do a little better. This car is AMAZING in the city. Its small, easy to park, maneuverable, gets good MPG, is peppy and handles well. I use it for Home Depot, IKEA, etc. trips and it has had the space for everything and then some. Magic seats are Honda at its best - I was able to shove a 55" TV (in the box) behind the front seats with the magic seats up! MPG is great!!! Driving conservatively on the hwy - 65mph - will get you about 40mpg. CVT is very relaxing, no lurching or shifting like traditional autos. I do not hear any "buzz" from the engine. Aggressive drivers will need to plan ahead if coming from a faster car - the HR-V is not "slow" in general driving but this is not a Ferrari or even a BMW. Cant be making split-second lane changes etc. Overall, if you understand the limitations this car is a good little CUV. Perfect for first-time drivers, older drivers, or those looking for more hauling capabilities in cramped cities. For ~$22k (EX CVT trim) its a great package.
