Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Not impressed - 2005 Honda Civic

I used to own a 94 accord that never had any problems other than rust (289,000 miles), so when I bought my newish car I only looked at Hondas. Mistake. The cars quality is not very good. The cable for opening the gas tank broke recently so I have to open the gas tank door through the trunk $200 to fix). Car has a strange overheating problem that the dealer cannot diagnose, not good soundproofing in car, engine is loud, The warranty on these cars in crap, does not get that great of gas mileage, maybe 25-35. This car is boring to drive, especially in an automatic. However the car handles nicely in upstate NY snow and I feel safe in it. I think Honda is riding on their laurels...

  • Cant beat it for the money - 2008 Honda Civic

I owned two Infiniti G35 coupes before I purchased this car (times got tough). I dont think there is a better car out there for the money. I consistently get close to 30 mpg in town and the car handles almost as well as my G35s and that is no joke. The seats are actually more comfortable than the G35s, holding you in place firmly but offering great support during longer trips. I would highly recommend this car. It looks great, it performs great, its a blast to drive in the curvy, mountain roads near my home, the vtec motor absolutely howls from 5500-8000 rpm, it has plenty of interior room and a huge trunk. You just cant beat it with Hondas reliability to boot.

  • Poor mans prius - 1990 Honda Civic

I bought this car because I live in California, the state with the highest gas prices in the continental U.S. I would recommend this car for gas mileage only. No appreciable luxury. Dated styling, unless you put a body kit on it. O.K. performance if you are willing to push the motor to the max, which is very unwise if you want an old car to last!

  • 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid Miliage - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

I am having some severe mileage issues with my 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid. I was fighting to keep mileage above 49 mpg when I went in to have new tires and oil change at 30,000 miles. Up to that point, I had never gotten less than 50 MPG (measures by dividing miles driven by gallons of gas to fill up). This included summer and winter driving, city and town. Immediately after tires (original?) and oil change I had difficulty getting 40MPG. I am now fighting to get above 35MPG. Dealer claims to have checked out and can find nothing wrong. I drive better that anyone at getting best mileage (slow speeds, cruise, tire pressure, gentle starts and breaking, little heat and air conditioning, etc)

  • This car has been a winner - 2000 Honda Civic

After ten years on the road and 162,000 miles, this Civic EX is performing admirably. No major problems whatsoever.

  • Great mileage - 2007 Honda Civic

Traded Kia Sorrento during gas crunch... should have kept trade-in despite bad mileage. Honda is quite noisy all around & not at all comfortable on long drives. Getting in & out of car is a chore for taller(& older) people. Fuel economy(40-45 mpg) & acceleration are excellent. Switching back to SUV. Id rather be comfortable & pay more for fuel. Civic hybrid makes a good commuter car.

  • Real n...ice but - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Having had over 20 Hondas personally, and a 15 career in the auto business w/Honda/Acura dealers only, I was wicked excited about the new Si. I had a 2004 Accord EX coupe, 4 banger w/5speed..decent! Well, here was a Honda that was a factory hot rod and IT IS! Just one little problem... not all the time, but when Im stressed the ride is too harsh on the bumpy New England roads!!

  • Ok so far - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

We picked up our new civic yesterday. I checked the mileage on the 141 mile trip home averaging 40.9 mpg driving at variable speeds from 50 to 75 mph on the freeway RPM under 3000. Are we happy? Yes! I like the gas mileage but it isnt a Camry in comfort and ride, but didnt expect it to be. The bad: we noticed a small ding on the truck lid, however very faint and we asked for a hundred off and got it so I shouldnt complain since I made the deal. I did noticed that the trunk lid isnt exactly centered. The door jams were dirty, and grease on the carpet mat that I ask the dealer to clean and they did. Other than than so far so good.

  • Civic Touring Coupe with body kit - 2016 Honda Civic
    By -

Fun car to drive with great acceleration. The dealer added a body kit to this black Civic Touring and it looks like the 2017 SI. It didnt sell in 2016 and the dealer wanted to sell it. When I first saw the car this past weekend (Labor Day 2017) I wanted it. It has everything and then added styling. The car was discounted so I got a pretty good deal. My wife thought we needed a sedan but now that she has driven the car, she is very happy with the coupe. It is a one of a kind Touring since it has the body kit added.

  • Best car period - 1995 Honda Civic
    By -

Ive been selling cars for 14 years now, and not imports. First Honda Ive owned. Car was traded in and I didnt need another car but couldnt pass up for $500. It had 131,000 miles on it when I bought it. Now it has 208,000 miles on it. All I can say is WOW. I never thought 4 1/2 years later I would still be driving it. (It is my work car. 20,000 miles a year.) I change the oil every 5,000 miles, new exhaust, new radiator after it started getting hot because 1/4 of it was gone, plugs and wires, and thats it. All was cheap and did myself. Still has the same brakes front and back from when I bought it. I wouldnt take 2,000 for it cause I know I couldnt replace it. Most reliable car ever. :)
