Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Disappointed - 2008 Honda Civic

So I bought my car back in January and I loved it until one day I was driving down the road and the sun visor on the passenger side just fell down and wont go back up and its not even covered on my extended warranty and the drivers side is bout to break and come to find out they have this problem with all of their 8th generation civics and they wont recall them. I guess they just expect you to pay to get them replaced every time it gets hot outside and they break because they are made out of cheap plastic. I dont know about anyone else but I dont have 130 dollars to dish out every time they break. This will be last one i buy since they dont feel the need to fix problems with their cars.

  • Just ok i guess - 1999 Honda Civic

EX is a nice package for an economy car. Manuel transmission has its pluses as well. Decent mileage on flat Louisiana roads is a disappointment (32 mpg). but overall from 66K to 100K one thing after another is breaking. Master cylinder replaced distributor replaced. Timing belt and water pump replaced as recommended so I knew that going into it. Rear passenger door will not open at all, cruse control broken, CD player broken, paint chipping on bumper, steering wheel chipping and uncomfortable, horn pad broken off, muffler falling off. Cant think of anything else but i know i am missing a thing or two.

  • So far so good - 2007 Honda Civic

Love the car- 60k now, about 34 mpg w/ 60% highway. Peppy and fun to drive. Too much road noise- replaced OEM tires-that helped- worn out @40K anyway. No maintenance except oil change and just did front brake pads. Front seats need to be a little longer and more back support.

  • Cheap Piece of Junk - 2007 Honda Civic

I bought a Brand New Civic LX 2007 4dr. Sedan. It has 57,000 miles on it now. It is made cheaply. The sun visor has fallen apart 2 times, the first time 3 months after I purchased it. The battery goes dead all the time and leaves me stranded , I have had it checked several times and they said nothing is wrong with it. I finely just replaced the battery, car is only 3 years old battery should still be good. It is the worst riding car I have ever had, I have replaced the tires with better tires, that help a little bit. I will never buy a Honda again, I am very disappointed with this car.

  • Class act - 2010 Honda Civic

After being away from Honda for a few years, it is nice to be back. I had always thought the Civic sedan looked really cool, but didnt realize just how good of a design they actually have. Smooth ride, easy to drive. I dont notice the road noise lots of others talk about. The car feels very stable and well put together. For a smaller sedan there is quite a bit of room in the back--I dont remember the car being that big back when I had a 91 Civic in college. The dash and gauges are very modern and it looks like a little cockpit. I like the 2- level gauge set up. Huge trunk. Great gas mileage. Easy to park. It is hard to go wrong with one of these.

  • A solid buy - 2010 Honda Civic

I purchased the Civic LX-S. The ride is solid, fuel great, and all those who complain about the engine noise must be mashing on the gas pedal at high speed. I only get load engine noise when hitting passing gear at high speeds on the highway. Better backseat room than an 07 325i BMW I tested and the passing gear in that gave loud engine noise too. All in all, Ill take the Honda. A great car for the price.

  • 212k, still going, but not cheap - 2001 Honda Civic

I bought the car new to commute 80 miles a day. Overall its been a good car, but over the course of the last year, Ive spend at least the value of the car in repairs to keep it on the road. Its needed a new manifold (cracked at 70k), radiator, shocks, springs, bushings, end links, manual transmission, on top of the maintenance items like brakes and tires. Ive also had a recurring problem with the spark plug coils that blow fairly regularly, however my mechanic has been able to replace this under his warranty. The motor still runs like new or close to it so Ive continued pouring into the car since I have a hard time justifying a new car with such a long commute.

  • Great so far! - 2008 Honda Civic

I just bought my Civic EX 3 days ago so this review is more so a beginning measurement. But so far I am loving it. To be honest I really wanted the 2010 Mazda3 but couldnt afford but after a few days in the Civic, I really have nothing to complain about. Maneuverability is excellent, surprising acceleration considering its a 4 cylinder. My only complaint is the speaker system could be a tad bit better and I cant see the hood so it makes parallel parking kinda hard but definitely not a deal breaker for me. If you are looking for a stylish, reliable small car then the Civic is the way to go!

  • Brake problems? - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

I have 20,000 original miles on this vehicle. I have been back to the dealer once to change pads and have rotors cut, once to "remove oxygen" from my brake fluid and a third time to be told that it was my imagination I was stepping on a pedal that felt like a marshmallow. (I almost hit a car in front of me on the way to the dealer). Ear splitting noise, poor brakes, tires are wearing ,sun visor split in half. Trading in the car for a Chevy this week. My first and last Honda.

  • Not impressed - 2008 Honda Civic

This car was decent overall, im 611 and drove it for almost two years. The gas mileage is really good on the highway (38-44) with a full car and two large people in it, but gas mileage in town is not too impressive (25-28) when driven very cautiously. The interior design is cool but materials used are very cheap feeling. The ride was loud on the highway and bumpy to say the least. The cloth seats seem really cheap and i hate the light gray interior because it stains so easily. Overall a good car for a high school student since its kind of sporty with adequate gas mileage. I traded up to a dodge charger which im extremely happy with, what a different ride.
