This Year's Model Updates:

In typical Honda fashion, the Civic receives a number of minor changes this year in order to keep it fresh. For the coupe and sedan, there's new exterior styling, including restyling for the front and rear bumpers, hood, headlights and grille. Inside, the audio speakers have been upgraded, extra sound deadening material has been added and floor mats are now standard in the LX and EX. The LX trim has slightly bigger wheels this year (15 inches) and standard keyless entry. A new value package contains air conditioning, a CD player and a new center console. For the Si hatchback, there are new headlight and taillight designs, larger 16-inch wheels and flashier interior trim. Like the regular sedan, the Civic Hybrid has updated styling, standard floor mats and improved speakers. It also has a new interior console with an armrest, adjustable rear headrests and a manual driver-seat height adjuster. Finally, all 2004 Honda Civic sedans and coupes have a new seatbelt reminder system.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, roomy interior, reputation for durability and quality, impressive crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Top-of-the-line models are pricey, antilock brakes not available on DX or LX.

  • Economy, but a bit more - 2004 Honda Civic

As an introductory model for the Civic, this isnt bad. Originally puchased for my teenage son, he rearended someone within 2 weeks, not badly, but enough to get it taken away. Now it is my work car. I own an SI, this is a nimble answer for m-f workday week. Great gas mileage around town in stop/go traffic and enough pep to get me out of trouble, not enough to get me INTO trouble (unlike my SI). Overall, I dont like the hand-roll windows, they make me feel like an idiot, but other than that, I like the car for what it is, a workhorse. A cute workhorse, but a workhorse none the less.

  • fun to drive - 2004 Honda Civic

I love driving this car. It is even more satisfying knowing that its good on gas. I get better than rated mileage in this car. I havent even modified it. This car is great for people who enjoy driving and who have needs beyond merely getting there. Its nice to have a spacious small car that still performs and isnt that expensive.

Does over 42 mpg in mostly city driving consistently since purchase, by my own calculations - the gas consumption gauge overstates reality by 2-3 mpg. Battery does not charge well in hot weather here in Florida, gas mileage is noticeably better in cool weather.

I find the honda civic is reliable, but the noise is terrible while driving, I dont get the gas mileage, the visualble is horrible. meaning that the beam between the back and front seat you cant see.

  • Amazing performance, bad body! - 2004 Honda Civic
    By -

I love this car, it really performs well, and I believe the engine has a lot of life in it. That is if the body holds up. I was in a slight fender bender at about 5 MPH and the entire back end cracked. Other than the body though, this car is amazing, and is a definite buy.

  • Would have bought sooner - 2004 Honda Civic

In October, best quote was $20.4K. In March same guy said $500 BELOW invoice. I didnt trust him, kept shopping. Paid $19.7K plus tax & title. For best mpg, hammer the assist and get to speed quick! USE THE CRUISE! Keep econ turned on. DONT creep up after stop, the engine WONT auto stop again, and youll be sitting there wasting gas. - Down sides: a: Construction pot holes trigger ABS. ABS kills re-generative braking (expected). Requires more braking effort. And re-gen wont re-engage until you accelerate. Releasing the brake and re-applying doesnt reset. b: CVT really lets engine scream on expressway merge (scary scream).

great car need to figure out how to clean bottom of back window. The drivers little junk compartment on the left side of the steering wheel needs to be moved up.The brakes wore out initially pretty quick also. the car is extremely nimble and fun to drive. gas mileage was less than i expected and i drive highway predominantly.

Got it as a high school graduating gift. First car Ive owned. I usually get an average of 33 mpg. I think that is bad knowing I should get more.

  • Truth in advertising? - 2004 Honda Civic
    By -

I like the car a lot. Not a lot of power, but solid. The sticker says 47/48 mpg but I average 38-42 mpg consistently. I cant imagine how these other owners are getting over 50 mpg unless they are driving only downhill and with no wind resistance... I wish I really got 47/48 mpg as it says on the sticker. I really baby the car and am aware how to obtain the best mileage possible, but it just doesnt happen.

  • Good car, not great - 2004 Honda Civic
    By -

Good car. Ive owned Hondas since 1980. Was somewhat surprised when I had to have the right front strut replaced (under warranty). Another problem is fuel guage which sometimes (about once a month)will read empty, even though there is gas in tank. Dealer says it is a design flaw and they dont know how to fix it. Otherwise, this is a reliable, solid car.
