Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Suspension issues - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

New in 05. Great mileage around 40 mpg on the highway when i wasnt a lead foot. I had the same suspension problems as everyone else. Dealership replaced the control arms free of charge. I am now on my 4th set of tires at 70k. I was ready to get rid of it but I thought id replace the suspension and perhaps address partly the issue that causes the tire wear (rear tires toe in when under load). So i put new eibach springs and sway bars and tokico shocks. WOW! Its a whole different animal. It handles amazing now. No more squirmy rear end in the rain, doesnt feel like the rear end is going to fall off when i hit a bump. guess Ill keep it for a while longer now.

  • Excellent small car - 2010 Honda Civic

This is a great all around small car, fun to drive, economical, zippy. The trunk is surprisingly spacious. The transmission is excellent - very smooth shifting. All in all, a class act. I looked at the VW Golf and the Mazda 3 before buying this car liked the Golf but found the seats too narrow, and had a similar problem with the Mazda.

  • First and last Honda - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

Traded a 95 Camry for this brand new 08 Civic. Never owned a Honda product, but thought I had nothing to lose, given all the hype about Honda quality. Boy was that a mistake! Lousy gas mileage (never better than 25 mpg, but my much bigger Camry got 23), mechanical problems - worn out strut mounts, A/C quit working, 3 out of 4 electric door locks went bad, and the list goes on. Rented a Nissan Sentra last time my Civic was in the shop, and was astonished at how quiet it was on the highway compared to my Civic. This is my first AND LAST Honda product. Trading it in ASAP for a Toyota.

  • Honda can do better - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

yeah, the gas mileage is good. Not in the hot summer though. If you sit at a red light too long the hybrid battery runs down and you have very little power to accelerate. No frills in the interior. No automatic headlights, no lighted vanity mirrors, no rear cup holders. It would not have cost Honda that much to add a few comforts to make the driving experience a little more pleasurable.

  • Cheap - 2010 Honda Civic

This is a follow up from my review of one month ago. I have since downgraded the build quality from a 9 to a 4 and the comfort from an 8 to a 7. Im not sure how I missed it on my road test or first week or so of driving but this car is NOISY, especially road noise. The AC is a joke. If you are driving for any period of time (for me 20-30 minutes) your leg may fall asleep as the seat does not go back very far which can cause you to arch your foot. I am 6 ft. even. I wish I had read the reviews more closely. Shame on me.

  • Replacement Civic - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

Im 16 years old, and my old Civic which was 2001 got hit by a truck when it was parked outside of my house and totalled. We were shopping for a replacement car. It was between the Civic or the 2009 Toyota Corolla. We got a really good deal on my 2009 Civic. It only has 17,000 miles. I love it. It looks nicer and more up to date than the Corolla. Im glad we were able to get it. I just got it a few days ago so I cant report on the driving experience. So far I love driving it, and I love the auxiliary input. It handles very well. My only complaint, which I dont think should be changed because it makes the car what it is, is the hood is so short.

  • WARNING: Honda IMA Reprogram Recall - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

My Civic hybrid performed flawlessly and still regulary returns 43 mpg per tank in mixed city/hwy driving. Per notice from Honda I took recall notice in and was told the computer reflash would only affect the battery recharge rate - would NOT affect the driving characteristics of the car. However, since reflashed, the battery is quicker to discharge in city driving. If it falls below 4 bars of power THE IMA POWER BOOST DOES NOT ENGAGE. I am trying to accelerate with only the 1.3L gas engine until I recharge above 5 bars Dealer sent computer test sample to Honda Tech Dept who acknowledge "many" such instances, but insist the new computer program is operating as designed-NO FIX.

  • Disappointed - 2010 Honda Civic
    By -

I bought this car brand new as my Christmas present, but within 1,000 miles I started to notice noises coming from the drivers side front suspension. In the beginning the sound was intermittent and the first time I took it back to the dealer, they said they couldnt replicate the problem. The second time I brought it in, the service manger went on a test drive with me and heard the noise himself. When I went to pick up the car, they told me that they didnt find anything wrong with it. To make a long story short, I brought the car back at least 4 times and they replaced the strut at least twice, however, the problem still remains.

  • Cant believe they actually said this - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

Ive always owned a Honda. Had my 08 hybrid and loved it for 2 years. July 10 they did a software "upgrade". Since that time the ima assist doesnt always work. Merging onto a freeway it just doesnt kick in. Brought it back to service, they drove it, saw it not work. They are literally telling me that this is how the car works now. So I have an assist motor that only sometimes kicks in. Do not buy a hybrid from Honda. I am so disappointed. I cannot believe someone says that with a straight face. Would I buy a car with 8 cylinders if 4 of them just didnt work sometimes?

Purchased car new in feb 06. Have 75K on it now (160 mi a day 2 work) Only problem has was rear wheel bearing dealership replaced for free. Replaced factory system and upgraded to a 15 in sub. Only problem is ive had to replace the spoiler twice since the sub beats and breaks the spiler off the deck lid and eventually falls apart. Seriously. Car does have problem with 3rd gear as a lot have mentioned. As far as performance not much can top for this price especially the style and power combined. Added K&N fuel injection performance kit and get 30mpg city 37mpg hwy. Happy with car which was designed better for systems but guess Ill shave those holes and have no spoiler. Otherwise great buy!
