Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  Bumper loosened and mis-aligned first month. Interior door trim came apart. CV drive boot loosened and tore. Leaking strut.

  My parents recently bought a new 03 Silver Civic and the improvements over the 01 EX Civic that I drive are great! The car is so quite compared to the 01. It feels and more like an older Accord. The chrome accents were neatly placed and add a touch of upscale. The drinkholder looks better with the cover. The dash with the 3 blue gauges is great but the speedo is harder to read at 30, 50, 70, etc... The yellow on the dash is odd. The newer armrest works better because passengers get a small piece too. The rear headrests are great for taller passengers and the fabric is pretty cool.. It should also come standard with alloys, floor mats & side airbags.

  This car performs well and has good interior & exterior styling & solid build quality. People talk about the torque but you cant be afraid to let it rev to get acceleration. BTW it sounds great when reved. Its a fun car but, you must drive carefully in the city & around traffic. Watch out for stuff on the road because of the sports suspension. For some reason Honda put airbags in the back of a coupe where you rarely have passengers. The c pillars are so big that they make blind spots. This is the sportiest civic people have been waiting for but it amazes me that people now complain about it being too sporty. There are going to be trade offs. Those guys should get something else.

  I love my Civic I have 4500 miles on it.No problems. Getting 36 to 38 MPG .

  The Honda Civic is a fantastic car. The Civic feels very solid with little body roll when conering, which at first made me think it would be a little firm over bumps. I was wrong, it handled dips, and bumps in the road very well. The transmission is fantastic, goes through the gears very smoothly.

  Downside: Firm ride for those not use to sports suspension. Back seats, though roomy enough for anyone under 6is not made for getting in and out of often. Upside: Everything else: Handling, speed, traction, stereo, size (I am 511, 160lbs). Seats fit perfectly, engine sounds great and is easy to rev up to get going. Mileage checked over 3 tanks hovers around 29mpg. Overall a quality little car for the money. Double Upside: iVTEC will scream when revs hit 6K+ (wait till broken in!!)

  I purchased my car from Tempe Honda, In Arizona and and was extremely pleased, it was no pressure, and my salesman Brian could not have been more helpful. I looked at the other cars on the market and the Civic was by far the best. It had the best safety, best fuel economy, and best looks, although that last one is a bit subjective. I purchased one of the first of the redesigned 04 civics. I have had no problems, and because this is not my first honda, I do not expect any. Overall, like the title says, it is the best compact car for a reason.

  Awesome - 2003 Honda Civic

  I drove this for the first time and just had the time of my life. Yes it is a 4 cyl however it is extremely peepy and great gas mileage. I fill up 1 a week and I drive 25 miles one way to work and it is the primary car that my husband and I drive for errands. It could easily be souped up and there are so many things you can do to this car to make it look better. So all in all it is a great car.
