Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • A Very Nice Car Overall, but... - 2006 Honda Civic

I liked this car enough to switch from twenty-plus years of VW Jettas. Its beautifully made. It handles nicely and the ride isnt bad, and its as quiet as Id want, even with the moonroof open. The audio sounds great, though radio reception isnt very good. The thick windshield corner posts (struts?) obstruct vision, quite seriously on left turns. The transmission has trouble deciding what gear it wants to be in on grades at speed. I wonder where all the reviewers reporting 35-40 mpg live and drive - I have to do a lot of maneuvering in and around traffic on long, stiff interstate grades, and even with a lot of more relaxed driving averaged in, Im getting 29-31 mpg city/hwy.

I talked my wife into getting a 4 door Civic for convenience, as she is hauling two grand children. (She was driving an 01 Sunfire GT). We went to the dealer to test drive it. But then, she spotted the 2 door. It was all over. Convenience no longer mattered. She loves it! "It is hugging me" she feels. The salesman also pointed out that it has the big 350W stereo (4 door EX models only have 140W). That was it! Final!

  • A Blast to Drive - 2008 Honda Civic

First Honda I have owned but my 2 sons have both driven hondas. They were right about the seats, they are some of the most comfortable I have ever had in a vehicle. Almost 3000 miles so far and have averaged 30+mpg every tank. Its real hard to keep the revs under 6000. When you reach that point its almost like a turbo kicking in. Sticks to the road and takes the curves like a race car. Love to push this thing around the twists. Firm ride but not choppy, great sound system, it really rocks. I had the aero kit installed and it looks great super sporty in ralleye red. Nothing but compliments on the looks. Overall a great combination of performance and economy.

  • too many recalls - 2006 Honda Civic

Perhaps its true what is said about buying the first year of a newly designed model- that is- it will have problems until they refine them. Ive had three recalls as well as an electrical problem, a HVAC problem, a body panel alignment problem. I feel this is too many problems for a new care especially one of Hondas reputation.

  • Love my Si - 2006 Honda Civic

What a fun car to drive! I thought the 2-tier dash would be a turn-off but either Ive gotten used to it or Honda really knew what they were doing (probably the latter). Fit and finish are what you would expect from Honda. I am concerned with how my seats will hold up in the long run. They look great now, but what about in another 20,000 miles? I love listening to this engine as I run it up to 8000 rpm out in the country. What a thrill! Although you may have trouble getting your hands on one quickly, it is worth the wait. I couldnt even test drive one at the dealership--had to drive my buddys si. A great way to celebrate your 45th birthday. One of my all-time favorite cars

Great gas mileage, great tech package.

  • My Fourth Honda - 2006 Honda Civic

This will be the 4th Honda I have owned in the last 15 years. This, by far, is the best yet. I just cannot believe the overall look and feel of this car. I never though in my wildest dreams that I would own a Honda that turned heads. I think Honda hit the nail on the head with this coupe. The dash design is great, stereo is awesome. The fuel economy in this thing is just amazing! I almost want to give this low ratings just in the hopes of being the only one in the neighborhood with one. If you are reading this for research, GO AWAY, I want this to myself!

I have not had any major problems and I am overall satisfied with my purchase. The care is great on gas and overall is comfortable. Nice trunk tray and spoiler.

  • Like a Good Friend - 1999 Honda Civic

To say this car is reliable is an understatement. I have only needed to do regular maintenance to the car and it runs like a champ. For a sporty little car it keeps you happy on the freeway and at the gas pump. I wish someone made a truck as reliable and fun to drive as my civic ex. The only thing I dont like is that Im 6 and I dont fit so well in the seat. I have to lean the seat way back and scoot down a bit to feel comfortable. The radio sounds nice and the sunroof doesnt leak.

  • Honda Civic Hybrid has Flaws - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

I purchased the Honda Civic Hybrid because I thought it would be reliable and get outstanding fuel economy. I was sorely disappointed. Instead of getting the 48 MPG as advertized, I never get more than 38 MPG, even under gentle driving conditions. The undercarriage protective plate is made of cheap plastic, instead of steel as on conventional cars. This plate falls off under normal driving conditions at a cost of $65, which is not covered under the warranty. Dearler customer service is poor. I do not recommend this car.
