Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Most UNRELIABLE car ever owned - 2005 Honda Civic
    By -

After owning many Hondas since 1983, buying a 2004 Civic EX was not questioned. It has proved to be nothing but a headache with techncians unable to find the problem. It has a continuing refusal to start probem. Tech says its a quirk that well just have to live with. Been at dealership several times since 6/04. They dont pick it up (theyd too busy) then say they cant find the problem because its been jump started. Two complaints have been filed with Honda North America. Both times promised a response within 2 business days. No response to either complaint. Service techs are useless; customer service is nonexistent. Honda is not the quality car it once was.

  • DO NOT buy this car without Navigation - 2006 Honda Civic

Im not even through my first tank of gas and thought I would write a review. Heck, if something happens, I will write another one later. Whatever you do, do NOT buy this car without Navigation. It is simply spectacular. Kinda like TIVO in that once you have it youll wonder how you ever got along without it. It talks to you, you can ask it questions, it tells you where to go, you are never lost, and its all really quite fun. The interior is delicious and the exterior is head turning at the moment. Great car!

  • Good Car, but Quality Issues - 2007 Honda Civic
    By -

Generally a very good car. Great gas mileage, comfortable seats, decent acceleration with the 5spd manual, fits in tight city parking spots. The quality has been a disappointment. The map light didnt work from day one and way more annoying was a constant rattling from the rear passenger curtain airbag, also from day one. Dealership had my car for 4 DAYS and although the rattling has lessened, its still there and very annoying. Seems Civics are hit or miss. Some get great quality cars, and some have them in the dealerships for service in the first month. Dont test drive any model. Test drive the car youre actually going to buy and check out everything!

  • Mixed Blessing - 2004 Honda Civic

HCH is peppy & responsive. CVT is much smoother than regular auto transm. Handles well on curves & highway. Brakes are right there. Actual mileage lower than expected (37-40 mpg, mixed suburban driving). Bumps on steering wheel (@10 & 2 oclock), plus its thickness & wide ribbing, interfere with hand placement for small-to-average womans hand. Even with seat cranked up, rear visibility is poor (Im 5-5"). Seat is uncomfortable on long trips. Passenger wipers sweep into drivers visual field has effect of narrowing view & is disturbing; transm. sticks chrome plate reflects sun glare into drivers eyes- a driving hazard. Exterior finish scratches easily.

  • Worst Car EVER - 2001 Honda Civic
    By -

This is the worst vehicle I have ever owned/driven and my first car was an 88 Isuzu Pick-up. Performance is terrible. Engine has no power. Suspension is trash. It bounces everywhere like a cadillac. I have a 5sp. It never likes to go into reverse or 2nd. Im luck if I get 25mpg. The car rattles everywhere. At 48k miles, my transmission needed to be rebuilt.

  • Spectacular New Ride - 2017 Honda Civic

Key features include the turbocharged engine and the six-speed manual - which is VERY hard to find in a non-stripped car! The interior quality, features, comfort and roominess are amazing. The car replaced a Lincoln MKZ: the tech in the Honda is superior, and the interior room is darned close. Mixed mileage is a bit above 40 mpg. Mostly highway drives are 45! Incredible mix of performance, pep and fuel economy. I looked at Lincolns, VWs, Mercedes, Mazdas, Volvos, etc., but the Honda Civic is the only car that matches the performance I wanted, and room for adults in the back seat... plus it offered a great-shifting six-speed manual! There are a couple of Accord manual options, but they are due to be replaced next year and cannot match the mileage of the new design Civic. Outstanding car; a thrill to drive!

When looking for an affordable, fun to drive car that gets great mileage, this is your car. Ive put 18000 miles on in 8 months commuting to work with no problems. Although I do like this LX, I find it clunky going through the gears and lacking the kind of power I enjoy off the line. There is alot of road noise and ticking sounds coming from behind the dash and God knows where else. Honda should pay more attention to making a tight car.

  • Very Satisfied - 2008 Honda Civic

Previously owned a 2001 Civic EX. I liked the car, but it unfortunately got totaled. Walked away without a scratch. Accordingly, I purchased another Civic as a replacement. I liked my 2001 Civic, but I LOVE this one! It is MUCH more refined, drives much better, is quieter, has more room, etc. MUCH better car!

  • Civic Hybrid is a Winner !!! - 2005 Honda Civic
    By -

I love my Civic Hybrid. I am getting 47 MPG in mostly city driving. I commute about 20 minutes one way, all city streets, and it does great. Had it in Texas over the Holidays and it started without a problem at 15 degrees F, completely ignoring the cold. Good lights, great seats (easy to clean), good low end torque (can squeal the tires at startup). All in all, the Hybrid does everything any other Civic can do, just better (except for hot rodding.)
