Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Comparing to a Prius - 2008 Honda Civic

My wife has a Prius and I have the Civic. The Civics gas engine runs more than the Prius so its not as fuel efficient but still VERY good at 44 mpg 90% city driving. The Prius shuts off its gas engine whenever it has an opportunity but the Civic does it only when the car is stopped at "D" or at VERY light throttle. If the car is in "Park", the gas engine will keep running, unlike the Prius. Its much more fun-to-drive than the Prius thanks to its sportier ride and handling. It doesnt have as many gadgets to play with but it has all the essentials. If your only concern is fuel economy, buy a Prius. If you want more fun while saving gas, get a Civic Hybrid.. shorter wait, too! 6wks vs 8+ wks

  • Good, not super - 2005 Honda Civic

This car is very nice, but after driving an Accord, even an older one such as mine (94-97), it doesent feel substantial. It drives real light, which is good for cornering, but not for feeling safe pulling out into traffic!

  • Great Car! - 2007 Honda Civic

This car is a great looking car & a lot of fun to drive. The car handles exceptionally well with the tradeoff being a ride that is rather stiff. There is a definite loss in gas mileage with the SI and being a usually thrifty person I would have to give hard consideration to the EX if purchasing again. Was pleasantly surprised at how well the cruise works with the manual transmission, much smoother through hills than the cruise was in my 4 cylinder Ford. The interior is arranged so that radio, temperature controls, etc are easy to find & use. Whether or not it is the best value for the money can be debated but when you are behind the wheel there are no regrets. This is one very nice vehicle!

  • The Anti-SUV - 2004 Honda Civic

Our second Civic, our other is a 95 (bought new) with 130K miles and is still going strong with no problems. If our old Civic is any indication we are going to have this car a long time. I am pleased though with how much they have improved the cars over the last 10 years. The engine is super-quiet and spunky enough, the 5 speed is like slicing through butter, handling is good and the ride is comfortable without being boring. Civics are automotive engineering realized to the highest level.

I am a big guy. This car was not made for me. My six ft heavy frame is still not uncomfortable to drive and ride. We got this car for my wife and daughter to use. It is perfect for them both. The car is well constructed, and the fuel economy is close to the advertised 30-40 mpg. A little more noise than our old Accord. But, then again, this is an economy instead of a mid size. The larger engine, better transmission, and the improved air bag system make it an excellent value.

  • Fun car, but... - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

Not exactly the low-cost of ownership vehicle advertised. I just had to replace brake pads @ 9,900 miles to the tune of $270 out of pocket. Ive owned many new cars in my lifetime and never replaced pads under 10k miles. This was a disappointing experience, so I have written a letter to American Honda. There are other similar complaint visible on the web. Honda needs to make improvements to the brake pad materials. Other than this, the car is comfortable, fun to drive and fuel efficient.

  • Everything about it is just great! - 2008 Honda Civic

First off let me say how amazing this car is on gas millage. Driving to New York City from Buffalo has never been cheaper for me. Secondly, I am 64" and I fit wonderfully into this car. If you are as tall as I am I would highly recommend looking into this car. I am a second generation Honda owner and I honestly couldnt be happier with the design and performance of this civic. If you are looking for a fuel efficient car that gives a smooth ride and is fun to drive this is your ticket.

  • Easy to be green - 2003 Honda Civic

The Civic hybrid is great. It runs just like an ordinary gasoline auto except it gets nearly 45 mpg around town. It is an easy way to help save the earth.

  • Awesome & SAFE - 2006 Honda Civic

This car is very cool. My first Honda and probably will not be my last. The HP is a little on the low side but performed well on a long road trip. My story has a sad ending but I was sandwiched by a truck and a SUV. The front bumper was Impailed on the SUV trailer hitch. So the car Vd in. The back also took a massive hit. Im 64 and the end result was I was able to walk away with minor neck and back pain. Kudos to Honda for making a car that could withstand that type of impact.
