Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Always Dependable - 2007 Honda Civic

If well cared for, this will continue to be an reliable vehicle. After about the 10 year mark, the plastic/rubber cosmetic features (on my particular vehicle) started to dry rot and the ceiling fabric began to sag a bit. Ive had to replace the passenger sunvisor at least twice in 10 years (due to some combination of extreme temperatures and user errors.) The vehicle has a low clearance, so front bumper damage can be easy to acquire for inattentive drivers. Around year 7 of ownership, the lights on the dash indicators started inverting colors (or showing how much fuel you DONT have rather than how much you do); theres a particular logic to reading the lights (on my particular vehicle) when they malfunction that is relatively easy to figure out. The stock speakers cant always support audio played at full volume; Ive replaced at least two speakers.) This does not impact the drivability of the vehicle. All that said, I love my Civic and intend to keep it for as long as it will last. :)

ItÂ’s a nice sport little car for a good price. It is very comfortable but only comes with the bare essentials. I would highly recommend this car to anyone who wants a car that is economical and fun to drive.

  • Transmission Control Module - 2016 Honda Civic

When I had owned this car for about 90 days when I was leaving TopGolf the dashboard warning lights were all flashing and then the car transmission had locked and I could not put my car into drive. I had to tow it to the dealership where I bought it and they reviewed the car and found the TCM had been disconnected so they reconnected it and I went about my day. Then the error occurred again during a move and drive down to Florida. When we stopped to fill up and I turned on the car the issue happened again. The part apparently needed to be completely replaced because the pins meant to keep the TCM connected had been faulty. Please be aware of this and HONDA please place a recall/replacement on this issue. Several other people I know have had this same issue on brand new Civics. Being stranded and in need of a tow is dangerous and frustrating. PLEASE RESOLVE THIS ISSUE!!!!!

We traded our Honda CR-V for a Civic hybrid to help offset the price of gas and so far so good. We have probably saved at least 2 fill-ups per month and have been averaging about 45 mpg, which sure beats the CR-V perfomance by more than double.

  • Best Honda yet - 2006 Honda Civic

I just bought this car today. So far, so good! I love the exterior and interior styling. The dealer had no idea how the external jack worked for the stereo. So I went to Best Buy and they figured it out. Its not the best stereo but my Ipod works with it so yahoo! This car is so quiet for a 4 cyl engine. I cant wait to see how it performs on my 80 mile round-trip commute

  • Should have bought a Prius! - 2005 Honda Civic
    By -

When I went shopping for my car, I was looking for fuel economy and a little bit of fun. I first went to a Toyota dealership to test dive a Prius. Well I at least got to look at one in a brochure. I tend to buy cars on the spot (its more fun that way) and I did not want to wait 30-90 days, but I went ahead and put myself on the list. The next day I went to a Honda dealer and they had 7 Civic hybrids on their lot. A 5 speed even, so I bought it. What a bad decision! It cost me less than the Prius, but its trade in value is $9,000 less than the $2,000 more for the Prius! Its cramped, slow, and completely dull to drive. Skip this car! only 10 miles per gallon better than an EX civic.

  • Great car, but not what they used to be - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

I used to own a 97 Honda Civic DX coupe, which is the stripped down model for those of you who arent too familiar with the line-up. I now own a 02 EX coupe which is their top of the line model. I must say, there have been some drastic improvements in those 5 yrs, as well as some disappointments. My 97 DX was supposed to be getting only 106 hp while the 02 EX is supposed to be getting 127. Still, the DX felt much quicker. The 02 also has a lot of little creaks and rattles on the interior. The last complaint is gas mileage. Honda claims 32 city and 38 on the hwy. I do a mixture of both and am lucky if I get 30.

  • Less than expected from ratings and hype - 2016 Honda Civic
    By -

I wanted the Civic due to its reliability and gas mileage ratings and hassle free maintenance. First, the tire pressure light was on from the second day I had the car. I called Honda and ended up checking the tire pressure myself which was fine and then pressing the reset button several times until the light went off. No one mentioned this issue at the dealership or that there is a special reset button for this purpose. Second, according to the Civics own gas mileage indicator on the dash board, I am getting less than 24 mpg. Third, when you connect the blue tooth, the phone is connected but not the media (ex waze). Fourth, there is no cd player (only radio). Fifth, the storage compartments in the car are minimal and do not have closures like the kia forte. There are a total of 3 easily accessible cup holders that double as the storage console. The back seats do not come down for extra trunk storage if you need it. You have to play with the buttons and dials to get the a/c to work properly so you dont die of heat stroke before it kicks in. Overall, I guess as long as this car lasts without any big bills until I turn it in, will have to be happy.
