Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Too many compromises - 2008 Honda Civic

After only 65,000 KM and 1 year, I traded this car in for a Corolla. First vehicle I have owned and not put more than 200,000 KM on. This vehicle, is poorly made. The rattles after only 15K are unacceptable, and everything is breaking. The throw out bearing went out at 40,000 KM along with the 4 disk breaks. The passenger window fell off the track 3 times. The fuel economy of my corolla in the real world is much better, 36 vs 42 MPG mixed driving even thought the civic is rated higher. There is so little low end torque, it is hard to drive efficiently. Also at 110 KM/H the car revs at 3K RPM in 5th. I really expected more! The car is very weak (poor starting/shifting) in cold weather.

Great seats, a fine 6 speed manual transmission and corners very well. Outstanding value.

  • Civic with wings!! - 2007 Honda Civic

Just picked up my new 2007 Honda Civic. What a delight to drive. Reminds me of the days when I flew my Piper Cherokee. Great handling, ride, nimble steering, placement of controls is in the right place. Hondas got it right!! Traded my 2002 Chevy Tracker for the Civic; what a difference. I expect around 40 mpg and Ill probably get it. Thank you, Honda.

  • Fun & Sporty Car - 2013 Honda Civic

The ONLY drawback to this car is that it isnt available with leather seats!

  • Hatchbacks Rule - 1998 Honda Civic
    By -

My Civic provides basic transportation with style. I love the styling both inside and out. The automatic transmission is very smooth in its shifting. The engine provides plenty of power even when the air conditioning is running. There have been a couple minor problems though. There is a rattle when the car is idling because the bolts that hold the heat shield on part of the exhausts system have rusted badly, but this could be easily remedied. Also, the hatchback does not stay up on its own because the pistons have worn out. Overall, I would recommend a Honda Civic hatchback to anyone in the market for a small fuel-efficient car.

  • Hybrid Hype - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

The draw to this vehicle is the environmentally friendly engine. Looks great on paper but it has not held up to its hype. Several trips back to the dealership have met with frustration and a lack of knowledge and understanding of the Hybrid by the Honda technicians and salespersons. The Hybrid engine does not shut down if the outside temperature is below 43 degrees so unless you live in the south, dont expect any outstanding gas mileage. Even when its warm out, Im still only seeing 40 mpg. Honda says the engine is working perfectly--if thats so, estimated mpg is not realistic.
