Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  Good choice - 2008 Honda Civic

  I commute 160 miles round trip to work every day and have 48,000 miles on this one year old LX 4 door. Reliability has been great. I have gotten up to 42 miles per gallon on the interstate and its not a hybrid. Cruise control is used and speed is usually around 70 mph. Visibility is good. The car is a quiet rider. Passing power is adequate but there are some strange transmission noises which Im told is normal. The OEM Goodyear Eagle tires are not wearing well, 40,000 mile are getting noisy and not holding up too well and will be replaced. Overall the car is great and looks good too.

  Finally handed down our 07 to one of our kids. What can I say other than a huge improvement in tech, drivability, fuel economy, performance. Turbo and cvt are a great combo. Highly recommend it.

  Good car except for some rust - 1998 Honda Civic

  This is a good car to drive. However, I discovered rust around the feuling neck. I showed it to the dealer when it was still under warranty. The dealer told me that there was rust but, it was fine. Now, my car is over the warranty period, it is getting worse. They are saying since it does not rust through. Honda wont do anything about it. I had a 1983 Honda and it had the same problem. It contaiminated the feuling system... I dont see why Honda wont do anything about it. Do I have to wait until they issue a recall and have they repay the cost to clean the system? (They did last time...)

  Wonderful vehicle, I love it! Only negative comment is the paint on the red models wears out fast, but thats the colors fault, not the car!

  I drive 140 miles daily to and from work I feel the civic has enough pick up for highway driving and getting out of the way of the over the road truck drivers. I dont feel cramped in this car like some of the other compact cars I test drove. I like the fact the car comes with many safety features that the others dont. The only thing I would change is to be able to choose to have leather seats. Other than that I have truly enjoyed driving the civic to my surprise. I was looking for fuel efficiency and not comfort but I think I have received both for the most part.

  This car is the best I have ever owned. I am getting between 55-60 mpg, seriously. I am driving around 60 mph and try to coast as much as possible, especially down hill. This car handles great and is really fun to drive. Much better than the Prius if you ask me, and I have driven them both.

  Horrible Honda - 2004 Honda Civic

  Never again, what a piece of junk. The transmission went out at a little over 5000 miles. The interior lights quit working. My dash lights flicker. The ride is less than comfortable and it doesnt have the get up and go I expected. No more Hondas for me!

  great car - 2006 Honda Civic

  Ive had this car for about 5 months now and have already put almost 7,000 miles on it. Its done great. Ive had no problems with it. I love the fuel economy considering I drive 60 miles a day. The only thing that worries me is the snow. I havent yet tried it out in the snow but it should do fine considering it has front wheel drive. This is an awesome car and I would recommend it to anyone!
