Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Awesome sports car for under $25K loaded!!! - 2016 Honda Civic

Obviously when buying a coupe, you have to expect a little bit of a rougher ride vs. a sedan (lets call it a sport suspension) plus I think on the EX models with the wider tires you sacrifice a little road comfort as well. Having said that, the ride is still very smooth - in my opinion much smoother than the Mazda 3 hatchback I test drove. I had a 2005 Civic sedan, and Honda has really worked out the road noise issue significantly. It doesnt have the horsepower of a Camaro or a Mustang, but it has the look and feel of a sports car with luxuries galore for $24K. And thanks to Edmunds I got a great deal buying the car with no stressful haggling with the dealer. I have only had the car for 4 weeks, but I am averaging 38 mpg - I do mostly highway driving; acceleration for merging into traffic and changing lanes is no problem. The steering feels tight and in the rain I have had no issues with traction. I made my friend ride in the backseat and she said it was extremely roomy and comfortable which really surprised her (it was a bit of an argument for her to sit back there). Its a Honda so lets assume the long term reliability will be excellent. The new 2016 styling makes it an extremely sexy car inside and out that puts a smile on my face every time I drive her. After 1 month I am still in love with this car and have had no second thoughts or regrets about my purchase.

  • Not what I was hoping. - 2007 Honda Civic

Thought Id switch to an economy car - this car won based on price/gas economy alone. It hasnt been worth it - Id rather spend extra money on gas to have a car with some torque. The resale value looks great - will be moving up to something sportier in the 200+ hp/torque range. Not a bad car but it is the first/last Honda I will ever own. Realized its too vanilla for me. Didnt like seeing commuters driving them everywhere. Kind of a bummer.

  • my Civic will have you chasing behind - 2003 Honda Civic

This car handles like a dream, the nicest civic as of yet. Powerful Vtec will have onlookers drooling. The car is hot. 15 inch alloys are sporty too.

  • Well screwed together - 2003 Honda Civic

Bought this car because I started a new job and had to commute. My previous car was a 2002 Altima 3.5 which I really enjoyed driving especially from the acceleration point of view. Had many fit/finish and quality problems with the Altima, but not the Honda. Its completely reliable and everything fits together as it should. Gas mileage is excellent. Its a lot of fun to drive, but could definately do with another 20 horses under the hood to make passing more relaxing. Amazed at how high the engine revs and how quiet it is at such high revs. Definately a car thats more in touch with the road and as a result can be tiring to drive over long hauls.

  • Fun,safe,reliable & ecologically sound! - 2003 Honda Civic

We are thrilled with our new toy: responsive; road hugging; corners well at speed; and brakes with confidence. Seats are supportive & comfortable. Love the look of the metallic silver exterior and charcoal interior. Feels safe to drive, easy to park, accelerates quickly and turns on a dime. In short...BIG FUN for a not so big price.

  • 99 Civic DX HB - 1999 Honda Civic

Overall a very good car. The stock performance is not breathtaking, but there is a huge aftermarket to do that for you. Handles the corners very well, and feels faster than it is. The HB is the best look for the Civic in my opinion.

  • Impulse buy but still smart! - 2007 Honda Civic

I was on my way to Costco for milk when I saw this car, test drove it, and bought it on impulse, it replaced a 2004 Scion xB. I love the ext/int styling but wish the trunk was a lil bigger for boxes. love the interior, however, beige gets dirty so easily. Great Handling, Amazing brakes, awesome stereo, love the aux input. I wish i wouldve opted for the updated pkg with nav/bluetooth/trunk opener/sun roof. One thing, I get a weird rattling from my trunk, and my front left brake had a piece melt off of it, but it was replaced/fixed instantly by Honda no questions asked. Great purchase and I cant wait for the 2010 Honda Insight Hybrid! I average about 475 Miles per tank

  • Not the typical Honda quality - 2016 Honda Civic
    By -

CVT Transmission failed within year 1 of ownership. Dealership service wasnt prepared to do the repair and spend days talking to Honda Tech Support. Collectively spent near a month with a loaner. Service department sent me home without completing routine maintenance twice stating the car didnt need to be serviced even though the service warnings were present. Overall this is an experience I hope to lay to rest very soon. Hopefully this dump car with hold its value when Im trying to trade it in.

  • A Great Buy - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Overall the Civic is simply a great buy! I bought an 2006 EX model and have been very impressed with this vehicle. Awesome fuel economy and great design. The ride is bumpier than I expected, and this is my only complaint.
