Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Nice car, concerned about windshield - 2007 Honda Civic

This car has been very nice so far. I like the performance, spacious interiors, the fact that it is not expensive to buy and operate, and the 6 airbags. However 3 weeks after I bought it brand new, the very same day that I was to put the license plates in place, I noticed a chip in the windshield, and I feel confused as it is big enough to not be noticed when it happened. I am in a debate between repair or replacement but Im concerned that a poor quality replacement installation can lead to bigger problems. I honestly think it is too soon to have problems with this car, and Im starting to believe that the windshield is weak.

  • Everything and more! - 2006 Honda Civic

The car is awesome, very sharp from the outside and the inside is extremely comfortable. It is very quiet and the mileage has been good, upper 30s and the engine is yet to be broken in. I decided on a Civic after test driving a Mazda 3 and a Toyota Corolla. There was no contest on the purchase of a Civic. Honda has done a very good job with this car. It is no wonder this Civic was the Motor Trend Car of The Year! Again, very nice car for the money!

  • Almost Perfect - 2006 Honda Civic

Everything everyone saying is true, great car, very smooth and quiet. My only regret is that the auto trans doesnt have a manual mode. This car has good power when you stand on it, but in city driving the transmission is always trying to go into overdrive, cutting off the power and forcing you to stand on it. It downshifts smoothly, but it tends to "hunt." I know the transmission is trying to achieve better mileage, but Id give up some mileage for a 2.0 liter engine and more torque or a manumatic mode.

  • Think Twice Before Buying A Honda - 2007 Honda Civic

I have had the Civic Si sedan for not even a year (13K miles on it). Shifting to third is notchy and it feels like there is something blocking the shifter from engaging third. The passenger airbag off indicator comes one when nothing is in the passenger seat. The indicator is supposed to be off when there is nothing in the seat but because there are no error codes registered when the light comes on the engineers at American Honda said there is nothing wrong with the car and refuse to authorize any repairs. On at least 5 occasions nothing happened when I turned the key to start the car. The starter spins but does not engage.

I do not miss my 5 speed manual Accord. This automatic keeps me busy, watching all the readouts, trying to maximize my fuel efficiency, while reducing global warming. Driving has almost become like land surfing, using the topography to propel as much as possible before applying the pedal. Its surprising how many times the hare and the turtle (Hybrid) end up in the same place at the same time. I save my brakes, am less likely to get into a serious accident not to mention less pollution in the atmosphere and the obvious saving the ever increasing dollars at the pump.

  • Fun - but caution to night drivers - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

A substantial upgrade from my 03 Civic Hybrid passed to my daughter. Redesign mostly positive: feels MUCH roomier for 6 driver, much sportier look/feel, and seemingly better pick-up than the 03. Fuel mileage still a work in progress - so far around 40. One MAJOR redesign FLAW is the dash/front end. You cant see past the windshield up front for parking, and passgr side of dash will just collect dust. More importantly, if you drive in DARK areas (rural, coastal, etc) at night, there is a glare on the drivers windshield from the dual layer display - VERY distracting. I do a lot of driving under those conditions, and this could be a MAJOR ISSUE for me! NOT an issue if not completely dark

  • Hands down the best bang for your buck - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

This review will be a little biased as Ive always been a Honda owner. My previous car was a 1986 Honda Accord DX Sedan which saw me through my college years. Had it not been for me totaling my 86 Accord at an intersection, Id probably still be driving it. It passed on at about 375000 miles. I purchased my 2008 Civic LX Sedan at the end of 2008. It currently has 150000 miles on the odometer which means its just starting to stretch its legs in Honda terms. So far Ive had to replace the starter which, because my car was under warranty, was replaced by the dealer. Other than that all I have to say is that the car is very reliable, comfortable, and moderately fuel efficient. I say moderately fuel efficient because todays cars are very fuel efficient with the introduction of hybrid and electric cars to the market. Those that complain about the cars lack of performance need to take a hard look at themselves in the mirror and ask, are you an idiot? If you want to own a Civic and want performance, its called the Si model. Every other model other then the Si is built for fuel efficiency. Great car, tough to beat compared to its competitors, great value, absolutely the best bang for your buck.
