Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • The most reliable car ever! - 1994 Honda Civic

I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR 6 YEARS AND ONLY HAD A FEW MINOR PROBLEMS WITH IT. IT HAS 130000 MILES ON IT AND STILL RUNS GREAT. IT IS A VERY LOW MAINTENCE CAR. IT ONLY NEEDS GAS AND OIL CHANGES. PERFECT FOR HEAVY DAILY COMMUTING. MY FAVORITE LOOKING MODEL OF THE CIVIC INTERIOR/EXTERIOR SO FAR. WAS DISAPPOINTED THAT MY EX MODEL DID NOT COME WITH A/C. HONDAS AND TOYOTAS ARE THE BEST MADE AND LONGEST LASTING CARS.

I bought my 98 ex 5 speed manual in 2006 with 69k miles on it for $5000. When this car finally reached the end of its useful value in 2013 it had 397,000 miles on it and still started and ran no problem rain, snow, or sun. With snow tires on it I could get through anything, and I even took it in the muddy fields and off road, and drove it like a race car, engine next to redline, on pavement and dirt a few times. As long as you do regular maintenance, especially change the timing belt, spark plugs, and distributor cap; and adjust the valves when recommended this engine will outlive you. Two major problems-the door lock assembly on the drivers side broke, and there was no way to open the door, so I had to cut it open with a torch to replace it; and the ignition coil inside the distributor burned out and left me stranded once. Other than that, just routine stuff you expect with a car that old-radiator replacement, timing sprockets and oil/water pump replacements....but the alternator, a/c system, power steering, struts, 3/4 ball joints, and rear brakes were original and working properly within specification when I retired it. Overall a fantastic car that wont give up on you, and trust me, mine got driven and abused.

  • my new commuter - 2003 Honda Civic

I bought this Civic, our third, to replace the 90 SHO I just wrecked. I knew what to expect, and was not disappointed. Its a fun car, inexpensive and well made. I wish Honda would make an EX for old guys like me though. I immediately spent $3K on wheels, tires, springs and sway bars. I like an automatic, but I also like to go fast.

  • Who would have thought! - 2004 Honda Civic

I never would have thought that a Honda Civic could be so cool and so sporty! I bought my Hoda Pilot in May of 2003, and absolutely love it. When my husbands 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse hit 60K miles last month, it was time to trade it in! So my amazing Honda dealer JEREMY BRAUN @ DCH Kay Honda in Eatontown NJ, hooked me up with with a beautiful Fiji Blue Pearl Civiv EX, totally loaded and he helped me pick out awesome accessories for it! We added leather interior, a rear spoiler, front spoiler and complete underbody kit. It handles better than any car I have ever owned, and I have owned a LOT of cars.

  • Beyond Happy - 2017 Honda Civic

In the last few years, Ive had a Lexus IS, a Camry, a Prius, and a Lexus CT. This car is the best combination possible of all the things I liked about those cars. The fuel economy is great (consistently 32/41). Its roomy. It has wonderful cargo space. The interior is as nice as or nicer than the 2 Lexus vehicles. The ride is smooth. Its sporty with really peppy acceleration (really fun when I took it to the mountains). Every single feature I could possibly want except for ventilated seats (but the perforated leather is nice). I could not be any happier with a car.

  • Just Bought a 93 Hatch Si - 1993 Honda Civic

I bought my civic a few months ago for 4500, and the previous owner had put a lot of money into it. intake, exhaust, springs, shift knobs, pedals, deck, etc Overall, I love my car. It has excellent gas mileage (about 280 miles to a tank). It has lots of power and the shifting is smooth. Excellent, reliable, economic car. Thumbs up!

  • too many problems - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

This car has more problems than any new one Ive owned. We finally got the alarm system to stop blasting us when we opened the door after the 3rd or 4th trip to the dealer for replacement parts. Then we had to get the window seal replaced because the window wouldnt close. The worst part is how unstable this car is in snow and ice. The rear end feels like its going to cut loose at any moment, even with new snow tires. Im going to bring it in for that, see if the alignment is off. I feel an odd swing to the side when I go over bumps in the rear, could be related. I cannot recommend buying a 2006. Maybe the 2007 will be better. I feel like I deserve a replacement.
