Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

This is just a first impression/ short term review so far.Civic Hatchback LX Orchid White. I only had the car about 2 weeks and have 465mi. My work is just north of 1 mile away and I just want to break it in already! For a base model car its not very... basic. Although the wheels arent the prettiest, I appreciate that Honda didnt slap on a set of steelies w ugly hub caps. I originally wanted a Sonic Grey since my neighbor has one and it looks fantastic! Anyway, the wheels- they look best on the orchid white. I am actually not a big fan of the ex wheels so I am glad those arent on my car. What I like- 1.5T= POWAAAA! light weight, Piano Black trim, back up camera, huge side mirrors, practicality. What I dont like- OEM Bulbs ( halogen in a projector= dim lighting), arm rest padding ( they couldnt just use soft plastic instead of cloth? ), rear window is always foggy, no foot or hand brake, muffler tips or lack thereof ( dual exhaust and theyre hidden... why?), front windows are slow going up and down, Dirt easily gets between the windows. Ive already ordered a set of Phillips Crystal Vision from Amazon and that will pretty much remedy my biggest gripe about the car. What Ive done to it- purchased floor mats to match the beige interior, seat covers, window visors. What I plan to do- 35-55% tint, muffler tips, OEM mud guards, brighter headlight bulbs. It may seem like I have a few gripes about this car but at the end of the day; Its the best car Ive ever had. If anything, I would say that the LX is actually the best bang for your money within the Civic and hatchback segment.

My 3rd Civic. Purchased in 1997 with 45,000 miles on it. Now has 245,000 and still gets 35-37 mpg and uses no oil. Ultra-reliable. Two clutch replacements at about 90,000 miles ea. Nothing else except preventive maintenance (brakes, tires, timing belt, etc.) Power windows and sunroof still work like new. Lived much of its life in Seattle but still no rust.

No other car in this market comes to the real 40 mpg,but with honda its easy for me,did it already with an 1992,1998,2001,2009 and now the 2012. Finally it has some comfort, noise level in the cabine is acceptable. Have the 5 speed manual and its the same transmission used for the 2001-2005 civic. At 65mph it makes 2700 rpms,in the automatic its 2200 rpms, but this time you dont here it and still you get your 40 mpg, also because of the Econ button in the 5 speed.makes 2-3mpg on a tank of gas.Like to shift again because the automatic is not my thing. That shifting up and down the gears when i dont like it to shift! Everything under control again and i like it!

  • Disappointed - 2008 Honda Civic

This is my 5th Honda. Noticed with the last Honda that quality isnt what it used to be. I have had my current Honda Civic 08 car in the shop 3 times, and I only have 6000 miles on it right now, and they still cant figure out why the car doesnt start sometimes-same thing happened on the last Honda. Ride is very noisy and theres a tick at times that dealer says in the fuel injection-its too loud and distracting. Seats arent comfortable. Switch to adjust driver side window is poorly placed. Hondas used to be great cars; unfortunately, I think quality and dependability has gone down. Im also disappointed in the fuel economy for a small car.

Most bang for the buck on the road. A really fun ride. The first car I ever just wanted to take for a ride for no good reason. Great acceleration and handling. Quick, responsive and a real eye-catcher. The habenero red pearl looks terrific.

The car is now 12 years old with 140,000 miles on it. It still looks great (repainted in 98)inside and out, and its NEVER failed to start for me. I get the oil changed religiously every 3,000 miles, but Im not otherwise too careful with service.

  • I though Honda was good... but... :( - 2006 Honda Civic

Beautiful, confortable but not reliable at all... A/C condenser supposedly punctured by a "Road Debris" that didnt even leave a dent??? and therefore not covered by warranty. I feel completely ripped off. For me this is result of poor design and poor materials... how big a pebble has to be to puncture a condensor and not leave a visible dent??? How many times will this happen again? I am done with Honda... first and last..

  • Couldnt be more happy - 1998 Honda Civic

I bought this car new in 98. I have NEVER had a single problem with it. Ive kept up with the regular maintenance and it runs great! I have never had a worry about it failing on me. Ive driven it accross country many times. I am sold on Hondas forever!

  • MY CUTE CAR - 1998 Honda Civic
    By -

I love my honda civic, its cute and fun to drive. VERY RELIABLE!!! I have never had to put any money into fixing anything, only the 70,000 mile tune up- $300. The interior of the car is great, nothing rattles and nothing is loose. Gets great gas mileage. Not much speed, or much room in the back seat, but thats ok.. My ONLY complaint is the exterior of the car dents VERY easily. You could take your finger and slightly push on it and it dents. When I first got my car there were no dents just a few, barley visible paint chips on one side. Now I have numerous dents, small but still frustrating to have. Overall a great car
