Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

My Honda Civic has been an excellent car. It gave me one semi-major problem. The radiator began giving me trouble at about 8 yrs of age. The car would overheat every time it was drivin, almost starting a fire a few times. This is said to be a common problem in these cars. It was not too expensive to fix, though. Other than that, just scheduled maintnence is all. I love my civic, though. It has been very reliable, and has been taken on many long road trips. This is the perfect car.

  • I love this cars mileage and design. - 2008 Honda Civic

I drive 130 miles Monday through Friday getting to and from work. The sticker said I should get 36 mpg highway...I get 40-42 consistently, I set the cruise, that does not waiver much at all, to 76 on the highway. I do not race the car but dont baby it either. In town I consistently get 30-34 mpg and I should add that I drive with the A/C on all the time. I have 56,000 plus miles on the original tires but they make a LOT of noise. They probably have another 4 or 5 thousand miles left. The ONLY complaint I have is the lack of sight out the tiny back windows while backing out of a parking spot...its blocked by the passenger seat unless its leaned way back. I am used to it but it is a pain.

  • I love my Civic!!! - 2002 Honda Civic

I love my Civic! I had to say good bye to my 1993 HOnda Civic DX hatchback, because it was getting old. When it was time to buy a new car, I went straight to the Honda dealer and tested the Civics, fell in love with it and got one!!! The 2002 Civic is a great car! I love my Civic!

  • So Far, So Very Good - 2001 Honda Civic

As a newly married couple, we found the Civic to be a fantastic value. It offers a very smooth ride, great new looks, nice (not great) acceleration and offers a security of reliability that not many other manufacturers can offer. We feel this was a great buy!!

This car isnt that bad, but it could use quite a bit of improvement, the handling is horrable, the seats are the most uncomfortable thing Ive ridden in, the front windsheild fogs up evrytime it rains. The only way I feel you can make this car fun to drive, is to modify the hell out of it, start with the suspension.

  • Not bad for the money - 2005 Honda Civic

This is my second Honda Civic, theyre great for the money. The car is overall okay, gas mileage is like a hybrid (well almost). I have been extremely disappointed with the dealer, but I hear a lot of dealers are like that. Theres no sunshade at the top of the windshield, very annoying on a sunny day. The car is also difficult to start on an extremely cold morning, I think it should be much easier to start for a new car. The heat is inadequate at the floor so if you live in a cold climate and own this car expect cold feet. Stereo is lame; but again its an inexpensive car.

  • Great Car - 1990 Honda Civic

I purchased this car with 120,000 miles and one and a half years later it is still going strong at 170,000. Very trouble free, my Civic just gets up and goes every day no matter what punishment I throw at it.

  • 220,000 miles and runs like new - 2004 Honda Civic

This is a car for the long haul. Runs like a champion. Ours has been in the family since Brand new and it has needed nothing but basic maintenance and minor repairs (plastic pieces, gasket seal, etc.) This is the Toyota truck of cars.

  • Replacement for my Clunker - 2009 Honda Civic

Thank you, taxpayers; my old Mercury Villager is no more! Being a college student, I needed a more reliable form of transportation, and thats exactly what I got. I looked at a few competitors as well as the Accord, but the Civic fit what I needed best. The Si badging added a little something something to the personal enjoyment factor. So far, I love my Civic. It has been impeccable in both build quality, initial reliability, and ownership satisfaction. Having never driven manual before and it being a new car, I was expecting some low MPGs on the first tanks. However, in my 2500 miles of driving, my lowest tank has been 28 and my best slightly above 33. Keep this car on your short list!
