Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

How can you go wrong with one of these? Ive had this car from day 1, and all i have spent money on is preventative maintnance. Its not going to out-pace a corvette, but it is a car you can count on to get you where u need to go. Ive got 141,000 miles and im running it till the wheels fall off.

I absolutely LOVE my new Civic! I have been on the market for a new car for a few months now and the consensus from friends, family, and co-workers has been that Hondas are the way to go. Going from a Nissan Sentra to a Honda Civic Coupe, I am overwhelmed by all of the great features that Honda has to offer, including their outstanding sales and service teams. I know that I made the right choice and that I will be a Honda driver for a long time to come.

  • Hybrid still works well after 9 years - 2007 Honda Civic

I bought this car new in April 2007. As of April 2016 it still runs well. I followed maintenance minder, taking car to dealer (Pohanka in Maryland) for service every time maintenance was required. The dealer never tried to recommend excessive maintenance. Sometimes it would go 10K between oil changes. IMA light came on just before 80k. Dealer re-programmed it per TSB. IMA light came on again just before 100k. Found speed sensor in hybrid system was bad. Repair cost $1250. Geico Mechanical Breakdown covered $1000 of that. Had to have drivers window serviced once for $100. First set of tires lasted 90k. Based on recent dealer inspection the original brakes are still fine, probably due to regenerative braking system reducing wear on regular brakes. Original 12V battery replaced at 7 years. Paint and interior have held up well, using weather-tech mats helped. Considering initial purchase price, maintenance, and repairs this has been the least expensive and most reliable car I have owned. When new I could get over 55mpg regularly. At 9 years old I can still get over 50mpg in similar driving. My IMA battery still works well, but seems to have lost some of its original capacity. Should you buy an older used Civic Hybrid such as this one, make sure you are ready to shell out $3500 to replace the IMA battery at any time. Allowing for that, this should be a very satisfying used car.

  • EXCELLENT CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 1997 Honda Civic

I bought this car with 67000 miles on it for 45000, and i really got my moneys worth. I loved it to death. I got in a major wreck at 72000 miles. I only drove 5000 and can testify that it was yet the greatest car i ever owned. It is even extremly safe in collisions. I walked away with a seat belt wound after an RV pulled out in front of me. Crumpled the exterior into tin foil yet left the interior untouched. Awesome, safe and dependable. If you see one, do not pass the opprotunity up! By it!

I LOVE my hybrid, but there are a few issues. First of all I do a ton of highway driving (at least an hour a day) and I only get about 40.1 miles to the gallon. Secondly, sitting in the drivers seat you cant see the hood, so it is really hard to judge distance (like where the parking block is). Finally the lighting is weird. I cant make the dome lights come on when I open the door, which is a mild issue when getting in at night, or taking stuff out at night. Also the headlights have such a small range sometimes I feel uneasy. Otherwise I am so pleased with my car!

  • As always, Honda delivers... - 1999 Honda Civic

I bought this vehicle in a hurry and drove across the country in it. It is reliable, efficient, and I get a lot of compliments on it! Being a coupe, it is small and a bit cramped when traveling, and being a four-cylinder, it doesnt handle steep hills very well--you have to keep it in a pretty low gear to retain or gain speed. But the only service its required has been a different thermostat because I live in southern Arizone. Sometimes the gears are a little stubborn, but maybe its just me... I also like its interior design...it is attractive and has lots of cubby holes to store cds, cell phone, wallet, etc.

  • Best Civic Since 2000 - 2016 Honda Civic

I grew up in the 90s. Saw lots of Civics during that time and to date, my best car was my standard transmission 94 Civic EX coupe. I love that car. drove it up to 200k miles, but needed something more reliable. However, by time I got rid of it, it was during Hondas "I dont care what the civics look like" era. Yes, the civic has always been reliable and efficient car, but I am not just about efficiency. I dont want a bland looking car. I want something that actually looks great. So that being said, I have not bought nor even considered a Civic for over 15 years. Then I saw a teaser picture for the 2016 Civic and thought it was too good to be true. I mean, how many concept cars actually look like the care on the lot. But to my surprise, It looked amazing. I waited no time nor asked my wife to buy one. I bought an EX-T because I wanted the 1.5 turbo. The pick up is strong. It handles great. I like to drive in s mode for the acceleration and since gas is cheap right now, why not? Its very spacious. Almost as big as the 07 accord models. I dont care for leather, but even my cloth seats have heated seats. Navigation has never been a huge selling point for me. I have a iphone. And now with apple car play, I have navigation on my display, so why pay the extra for it. the only thing it did not have that I wanted was LED headlights, but I had those installed asap and matching fog lights. My only two complaints are 1) road noise and 2) the climate controls. I dont like having to have to hit a separate display for climate on my touch screen. Id rather have separate knobs. As for road noise, Honda has never had the best luck with that. They all have seemed loud. I never really cared until I got married because I had my radio up so loud that I never heard it. But now, since I have to talk with my wife on road trips, I notice it greatly.

  • A super little car - 1995 Honda Civic

I LOVE this car. Its sporty, fun to drive and has been very reliable. For fuel economy, its wonderful. Although mpg varies with season, temperatures and type of driving, I have very consistently gotten approximately 32mpg as an average of city and highway. Sometimes more, occasionally less. Its a sharp little car, especially in red!
