Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Good so far - 2004 Honda Civic

Just purchased my 3rd Civic. All seems well except for needing rear cup holders. It is an option for the DX and EX only-WHY? I understand airconditioning is a problem when it is really hot. I hope not for me-gets really hot in the south!

  • Satisfied with MPG and Comfort - 2008 Honda Civic

Looking for great MPG and comfort on long trips in car I plan to own over 10 years and 200,000 miles. Have owned the car for 2 months and have over 5,000 miles. MPG has ranged from 42 to 47 using 89 octane 90% Ethanol fuel in Midwest. 1/2 has been Interstate mileage at 75-80 mph with A/C. Best mileage was 47 mpg with 65 mph highway night time with no A/C. Car has been everything I hoped for! My concerns include (1) Auto stop engine cutoff at stop light/signs on hill and car will roll back if break not fully depressed. (2) Accelerating power at either a stopped position moving into traffic or passing at high speed is limited. Only 2nd new car bought. Prius wait 9 months; Civic 2 weeks.

  • Worst Purchase Ever - 2009 Honda Civic

Considering it is a brand new car, it is extremely noisy as if the windows are not completely closed. It has a very low clearance that makes you feel you are sitting on the floor and you hear and feel every grain of sand that hits the bottom of the car. The steering wheel is very small, especially for a petite person. When it is windy, I feel like I dont have a good control of the car because I cannot rest my left arm on the door as I was used to doing with my previous cars. It does not show the outside temperature. I think this feature should be mandatory for every car that is made. My husband convinced me to buy it and I regret it very much. That was my worst purchase ever.

The window sticker says to expect 29 MPG. That did not happen in 7 of 11 fill ups. The AC continues to be a thorn in my side. Only cools good on max air recirculating. Switching to outside air makes my temperature probe go up 15 degrees. Its a fun car to drive; its quiet and peppy; but MPG and AC are big distract ors.

  • Still strong after 11 years - 1992 Honda Civic
    By -

I am original owner. Have just turned 157,000 miles and car still strong. Have just done required maintance. Still a great car, consistently gets 30 - 32 MPG in daily city driving. Performance better than any car in its class. The perfect communter car. The design is still fresh after 14 years, a sharp looking car. Weak areas: 1.Front brakes discs only last about 20,000 miles. 2. CV boots weak(?) have to replace them between 30,000 - 40,000 miles. I plan to keep it for another 100,000 miles!!!

  • Wish I could give more than a 10 - 1996 Honda Civic
    By -

I have loved Honda Civics for years now, and this year I got rid of my 92 LX and bought myself a 96 EX Coupe. I love it, the look the feel the fun. Its a great car, I have had 0 problems with it, the car is really easy to work and and a hell of a lot of fun to play with. I just wish the Edmunds had a better score than a 10.

This is a great upgrade to the Civic explaining the higher cost. Civics are no longer the small entry level Honda vehicle; this has been passed down to the Honda Fit. Now the Honda Civic appeals to the millennial generation of adults in their late 20s and early 30s. The car drives great and has enough horsepower to handle high speed traffic while at the same time maintaining strong gas mileage. Safety is a top priority with the car performing a 5-star in all areas. The European versions come standard with Honda Sensing, which I believe for the price paid should also come standard on all American models; however, I am extremely pleased with this car and would recommend it for anyone with a small family but wanting a stylish looking ride. I have received more compliments than any other vehicle I have driven.

  • Complete Disappointment - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

I have been wanting a Civic Si since before I can remember. Now that I have one, I wish I could return it. It feels like a Cadillac with 2 doors and a 4 cylinder engine. That is, it doesnt feel fast, the suspension is terrible, it never feels comfortable, and I just cant find a good seat position. The cabin feels claustrophobic and cramped and I am not a large person (55"). If I could return it, I would. I dont think Ill be keeping this car much longer and will take my losses. Ill give 6 months max. Completely disappointed. Depressed and dissatisfied. Ill probably never get myself to buy another Honda again.

  • The Best Car Ever Owned - 1993 Honda Civic
    By -

This is the most reliable car that I have ever owned. I would never buy anything else but a Honda from now on. The first 100,000 miles only needed routine oil changes. You absolutely could not beat it! If you want quality for your money, you want a Honda
