Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

I am a very satisfied honda civic owner. Bought it new at the dealership and it still starts on a dime 101,000 miles later. No repairs -- ever. Just normal manintenance.

  • A Great All-Around Commuter Car - 2016 Honda Civic

I had a 2016 Subaru WRX for the past year. Absolutely loved the car, but I was moving to the city and was going to park on the street and I didnt want to bring a sporty car that someone might scratch up/mess with. It hurt, but I knew I had to get something else that was a little more discrete. I shopped around for cars in the same compact size class the WRX (based off the Impreza) and the Civic just hit all the checkmarks. The styling is pretty polarizing and while I like it, Im still getting used to it. I do like that Honda took a bold decision and made it a unique design in a segment with a lot of "bland" cars. Technology wise the car has it all, you get a large touchscreen display with apps, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and then some. The EX-EX-L comes with a 8 speaker 188-watt sound system that sounds decent (coming from a stock stereo WRX this is WAY better). I didnt try the Tourings 10-speaker system with a subwoofer but heard its pretty good. I also got Honda Sensing which comes with some great safety features, even though I think LKAS (Lane Keeping Assist System) is sometimes a bit intrusive but you can turn it off. The power out of the little 1.5L I4 is very solid and with the turbo it does pick up speed pretty well for the segment. Fuel economy is excellent and if you are just cruising on the highway you can definitely get 40+ mpg, on average I get around 36 mpg in mixed highway and backroads driving. Another thing I enjoy is having the keyless access, start and remote start which comes in really handy cooling down the car and once its winter to heat up the car. As a whole, even though I miss my WRX I think the Civic is a great alternative. Its still pretty fun to drive, great fuel economy, plenty of technology to keep us millennials entertained as well as having that Honda quality and reliability. Definitely recommend one!

  • A Lesson In Reliability - 1997 Honda Civic

I sold my Nissan Xterra, a huge, lumbering hulk of a car when compared to my Civic. I bought a 1997 Honda Civic LX. Can I say WOW?? I understand now why accolades are always tossed to Honda. It is THE BEST car I have ever had (Nissan, Dodge, Buick, Ford, Lincoln, Crysler all included in auto predecessors). It is small, but surprisingly roomy. True to the Honda name, reliability is standard. You cant go wrong.

I love my Civic! The car has superior handling andI have the least expensive model they make with manual windows, 5 spd transmission. You dont have to buy the top of the line to get that great Honda engineering. I expect to have this car for 300K+ miles.

  • Great car but.... - 2008 Honda Civic

The 2008 Civic LX is a great little car to drive around. I’ve had no major problems to date except for the one I’m going to talk about later. It drives well and handles the road nicely. I drive a mix of city and highway to get to work. Road noise is a slight issue but you want to eliminate it, buy a luxury car and pay more $$$. The stock tires are cheap (go figure) and you’ll probably replace them around 25K – 35K miles if you’re not an aggressive driver. The only problem I’ve had and is an issue on the two previous year’s models is a cracked engine block. This doesn’t happen to all Civics in the model years I mentioned, but there are enough for Honda to send out a bulletin about it

  • Love to drive - 2009 Honda Civic

I recently bough this car a month ago and already drove around 1.4K. Highway mileage is great, I got like 33 mph with air conditioner on. City mileage is not so good though, I am making only 22-23 mph. One of the reasons might be the fact that I usually have to drive in heavy traffic, go little and stop again. Road noise sometime can be a little excessive. Even a little bit of uneven road surface can cause uncomfortably loud grinding noise coming from suspension. Other than the noise problem, the car runs smooth. Always fun to drive. I even sometime intentionally miss the exit on the way to work just because I couldnt get enough of driving this car. Love both interior and exterior.
