Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

The only problem I have encountered is that I cannot always see my blind spot when I look over my shoulder because th seat is too tall. Other than that, this is the perfect car for a college student or young married couple because of its good gas-mileage and smaller size.

I love this car.Its a big/little vehicle. The gas mileage is unbelievable if I drive it under 65 on the highway 37 - 38 mpg is no problem. My daughter liked it so much she traded her Toyota Celica in to get one.

  • Excellant purchase!!! - 2005 Honda Civic

I bought mine used at ~111k, and I have put another 100k on it in four years. This has been a fantastic and reliable runner, it is easy to work on, takes nearly no maintenance, is very economical to own and operate, and with the 5 speed manual transmission, is a lot of fun. Highly recommended to anyone who wants something that is sound, cheap, and fun. I am very satisfied, and plan to run this one until life dictates I need something different, or until the wheels come off this one (but lets be real, I wont live that long!). Not recommended for a family car, or for those who have a hard time getting in and out, or those who haul a lot of bulky cargo, and no, it is not the best suspension, biggest motor, fastest car, however --- thats not why anyone buys a Honda Civic... It will (and has) hold up very well for commuting, travel, everyday use, work, fun, college, grad school and about anything else that you can throw at it. And good god it is nimble!

  • Hi tech in a compact package - 2008 Honda Civic

Got 42.75 mpg on 1st fillup for mixed driving. Almost no difference in ride and performance from regular small car. Funky dash, really deep and low with 2-tiered display that needs getting used to. Long dash makes it impossible to see front end and low dash will hinder long-legged front passengers. Smaller trunk and no flip back seats due to battery pack location. Almost everything is std. including excellent stereo, alloy wheels, tilt steering, cruise control. Please check out a hybrid before buying a regular small or mid- size car. Gas savings and tax credit makes up for price premium. Best of all, you really dont sacrifice in terms of ride and performance.

If VWs GTI is too square or the new Mini S is too pricey, the Civic Si is for you. To be honest with you the MINI is a lot more fun to drive with go cart feel. But for the price you can not beat the Si. Very solid fit and finish through out and very reliable. I was in a car accident in mine and we rolled. The Civic saved my life. The area aroung the driver remained intact.

  • ZIPPY!! - 1994 Honda Civic

I have owned many cars, and this one is by far the most fun out of them all. Even with the small engine, it is incredibly zippy. The 5 speed manual transmission makes it even more fun to drive. Owning this car has made me a major fan of Honda. I am purchasing the 2004 Honda Pilot (family outgrew the Civic, unfortunately). I will definately miss this car.

  • This car worth the extra cost - 2003 Honda Civic

I drive the Hybrid in the city and on long trips. Gas mileage is fantastic, although I lose the Autostop when the outside temp is below 32F. Recent trip through Cdn and US Rockies was impressive for handling and fuel consumption. The electric boost is great for passing, but on long mountain climbs the battery does run down so you are left with the gas motor alone. Havent had any really cold weather so will have to see how it does in minus 30

  • Good and reliable, if a bit boring. - 2002 Honda Civic

Overall a solid smaller car. It does everything well-enough. I am a bit disappointed with the paint. The color is slightly different between some parts...as if the parts were painted seperately. I have noticed this on quite a few (especially silver) Civics. Also, the (rear) suspension is overly bouncy, as if it is not damped well enough. Interior room in the Coupe could also be better, considering the size. Insurance rates are strangely high for a relatively low cost car. All of this being said, it is a comfortable, competent small car.
