Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Gizmo the Gremlin - 2016 Honda Civic

Im glad I bought this car! I like all the gizmos (such as keyless entry, pushbutton start, brake assist, auto parking brake, hands free cell phone, ECO mode, backup camera, & more. . ). My old car was 10 yrs old - a lot has happened in 10 years! The cars handling can be described in one word - NIMBLE! I tested 3 cars - Corolla, and 2015 and 2016 Civic - the 2016 Civic was best. The car goes about its duties with aplomb (better than abomb!). In the few times I used Sport mode, Gremlin stops smiling & bears its teeth! (translation: The Tach goes up 1,000 RPMs and the car goes fast). The only minus is that the seats are a bit low and lack thigh support. My mileage is great - a couple of 36.5 readings (Mostly city). I just got back from a highway trip -Denver - Glenwood Springs CO. I got 44MPG!! I used only Drive and Drive with ECO button engaged, and used a light foot on the gas pedal. The main reason I bought the car was for mileage, and I didnt want a hybrid. Ill report again when I use more Sport mode and see what mileage penalty there is.

Ive owned several Hondas and Acuras in the past and they never seem to disappoint me. You only have to change the oil and occasionally replace the tires. For the 06 Civic, the refinement, fit & finish, and comfort remind me of a baby Accord. For the money, it is easily best in class. Im 61 and fit very comfortably in car - with height adjustable drivers seat and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, its very easy to find ideal driving position. The 350 watt 7 speaker (inc. subwoofer) stereo that comes with Navigation system is awesome. Nav system is best in industry and easy to use via voice commands. The Civic wont win any races from a red light but Im averaging 38 mi./gal.

Software glitches galore: Random beeps from touchscreen. Navigation turns off before reaching destination. Honda Watch video doesnt always display. Keyless entry failed a few times and was locked out of car. Map data is incomplete. Voice recognition is very poor. Dealer sys Honda doesnt have software updates! Says I must leave the car overnight and they will do a reinstall. But, other than the ongoing software problems, its a great car. Handling is good. CVT is good. Peppy acceleration with 174hp engine. Suspension is good at this trim level. Very quiet. Very comfortable front seats. Honda Watch is a great help. The new audio volume strip is better than the old knob, you just need a few days to get used to it.

I decided to make the leap to a Honda after all the reliabilty stories I have heard. I actually went to dealer to look at Accords, but when I saw the mpg for civic, I was sold. I love how it drives, handles, the ergonomics, design. It is not a tire burner, but it is what it is, a economy car.

    The vehicle handles extremely well.

  • The Americanized Civic - 2004 Honda Civic

Cheap materials, Americanized content, mediocre capabilities...not what Honda is known for. This is a harsh-riding little car. The door fabric has come loose from its glue, the clutch creaks at each pressing, door mats had heel holes after 4k miles, hard plastics everywhere you touch, no tint-strip at top of windshield, no lock on glovebox, thin sheet metal, poor sound insulation, pathetic engine performance, but very good fuel economy. I should have bought a used Accord instead. A Toyota is going to be my next purchase after my 4th and last Honda.

I just love the car. All around the proformance surprises me everytime. It handles well both in city and highway. If I had gotten an automatic, I would have been disappointed.

  • Awesome 10s - 2006 Honda Civic

I have the Civic EX sedan. This car is truly the master of all cars in its class, and even surpasses the higher priced Beamers et al. The ride is smooth, it handles bumps in the road quite well and even with the sun roof open, its still fairly quiet. The controls are not difficult to understand or reach. The NUMEROUS standard safety features made me purchase this car over everything else, and of course, the fuel economy. Its quite roomy too, my 6 foot 5 cousin was able to drive it comfortably. I previously owned a 99 civic sedan and its amazing how different both are. In two words, Awesome Tens!

  • Strong little car - highly recommended - 1994 Honda Civic
    By -

I got this car new in 94, and it has been with me through marriage and kids (though it did get demoted to 2nd car status with coming of the 2nd child). It is still very fun to drive and VERY reliable. Not the best highway car, but great for around town and quite OK for shorter trips. Rear hatch and fold-down seats make this a very versatile hauler, too.

  • Point A to point B. Thats the point. - 2000 Honda Civic

My 2000 DX hatchback is the perfect car for the price. Fold the rear 50/50 split seats down and the interior turns into a 21 cubic foot cargo area. Things I have taken home in my Civic Hatchback - 32 inch TV in its box also in the car at the time, my wife, two empty 5 gallon water bottles, a small tool box, and an unassembled stand for the TV. 1 Maytag Neptune washer My 2 dalmatians, my wife, golf clubs, and luggage for a weeks vacation. All this while getting from 32 to 42 MPG!
