Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • the next best thing to a lexus IS300 - 2000 Honda Civic

I just bought this car used, got a great deal on it. Im 16, just got my license, my dad bought it because he has to commute and his Tundra gets bad mpg. I share it with my dad because i normally drive a 94 camry, good car but really slow, the civic is just more fun to drive. reliability + performance + good mpg = honda civic. there is really no other car to get.

It has the look of a stylish car (when clean), has the feel of a fun college run around car, has good get up and go, and is roomy enough for a family car. Very practical, useful and solid. Also very comfortable and smart. Im proud to own it.

I bought this car at 108000 miles, and it was still running smooth. Everything in the car was manual... tranny, windows, locks. the previous owner recently replaced the clutch and belts, so it has smooth shifting and runs nicely. I put wider tires on it and it just a great drive every time i go out.

Very nimble and smooth to drive. Needed more leg room, but this is expected out of any compact vehicle. Uses gas like a sparrow drinking water out of a bird bath. I can easily get 500 miles to a full tank of gas on the Highway. Im amazed....yeah!

a truly fantastic car. I was going to purchase a volkswagen gti. after test drive and overall price civic does the trick. the fact the stability control was added this year sealed the deal.

  • Great car, but... - 2009 Honda Civic
    By -

I bought my 2009 LX 4DR in October 2008 and have been very pleased with the cars performance and economical aspects. However, at 9,800 miles the front wheels began making squeaking sounds, rolling forward or back, whether or not the brakes were applied. When I took the car to the dealer, the service writer said the brakes were WORN OUT. Those squeaking noises are the brake sensors indicating a need for brake pad change. Now, Ive owned many new cars in my life but I cant recall EVER having to change disc brake pads at 9,800 miles. Brakes are not covered under warranty, so I paid $269 for new brakes. Where is the low cost of ownership Honda claims? Honda Customer Service was no help.

I like the car a lot. Not a lot of power, but solid. The sticker says 47/48 mpg but I average 38-42 mpg consistently. I cant imagine how these other owners are getting over 50 mpg unless they are driving only downhill and with no wind resistance... I wish I really got 47/48 mpg as it says on the sticker. I really baby the car and am aware how to obtain the best mileage possible, but it just doesnt happen.

  • Best Option For The Price - 2008 Honda Civic

A Honda is a Honda so you can expect to get efficiency and economy. The design inside and out is the best that I can find in this price range. Well laid out interior controls are user friendly. The split dash is a plus in my opinion. I can see the speedometer without taking my eyes off of the road. I compared the Civic to the Corolla, Mazda 3 and Toyota Matrix. The Mazda and Matrix just didnt have the fuel economy that I was looking for. Anything that averages 30+ mpg is what I needed. The Corolla passes the fuel economy test but many editor reviews seem to be disappointed with the Corollas performance overall. Im not impressed with the exterior styling of the Corolla either.
