Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Honda Hits a Home Run! - 2015 Honda Civic

My 2001 Honda Civic LX with 268k miles finally had to go due to mounting repair costs and I ended up replacing it with this beauty. This car is solidly built for a "basic" car. The interior has a clean look and the outside looks quite sharp. I opted for a 5spd Manual since my prior car was one and admit it is quite peppy with a smooth clutch. I walked off the lot with the car brand new for $15,200 (not including tax, fees, etc). The car handles very well, with very little road noise on the freeways and is quite responsive (avg 35 MPG, 60% Freeway). My only gripe was the stock radio was not very good with a lot of static, I am not sure if its the area I live but my prior car didnt have the issue. I wanted an LX since I could swap out the center console that was better then what Honda (Honda Link) made, I ended up replacing the OEM ratio with a Pioneer 4100NEX (Android Auto/Apple Car Play, HD Radio, etc) which ran $500 out the door. For the price and what you get with the whole package you cant go wrong. I had a choice with the 2016 but the 2015 model was by far a better deal and with the new radio, brings in many features the 2016 model incorporates for a premium. Out the door for a car brand new <16k you cant go wrong, I think a comparable car with the upgrades would go for >23k. Overall a great buy and reliable so far.

  • Great Car to Have - 2006 Honda Civic

So far, I have nothing to say about its quality or performance. It feels very solid and confident on the road. Though I do not consider it too bad, its interior is kind of noisy at highway speeds and the engine, being plenty peppy, could be a bit more of refined to be perfect; a bit smoother revver...

  • Nice Car! - 2001 Honda Civic

I have had my Civic for almost 2 years now. Overall, I am satisfied with the car. Its certainly no Lexus, but I didnt pay the price tag for a Lexus either. I have had a few minor problems that were covered under the warranty. Buy this car if you want something that is reasonabally comfortable, reliable, and efficient. If you are looking for luxury and performance, avoid it all costs. :)

I have the CVT 1.5 L turbo sedan. This car is outstanding in every way except for two things, one big and and one small. The display screen is just as bad as everyone is saying. Its not at all intuitive, is way too complicated, and simply has too much technology which is accessible only by staring at the screen and figuring out how to find what you want. That dangerous when youre driving and dont have anyone to do it for you sitting in the front seat. Changing a radio station, for example, thus becomes more complicated than in a car with simple dials to turn and buttons to push. This is a major drawback. A second drawback is the tilt and telescopic controls cant be felt, and thus cant be located when youre driving. Theyre hidden away so badly that the only way to know where they are is to pull over, stop the car, get out and stick your head underneath the stearing column and look for them. Despite these weaknesses, though, the car has really good power and acceleration and amazing gas mileage, and lots of room and storage space.

  • Great Car! - 2006 Honda Civic

Ive had the car now about 16 months. Drive it mainly to/from work about 50 miles a day. Get 36 mpg regularly. Ride quality and handling great on freeway. Im surprised it rides as good as it does on bumpy back roads considering its size and weight. Feels like a bigger car due to longer wheel base than predecessors. Sound system good, but not fantastic. Definitely like WMA/MP3 CD play capability. Power (140 hp) definitely adequate for this car. Definitely a great car for those of us with the environment in mind. Less expensive than a Prius with low emissions and great mileage. Cloth interior quality very good with excellent interior fit and finish. Trunk space more than adequate for couple.

  • Best all around low priced car - 2010 Honda Civic

So, love the car... except the interior, interior for this model just feels cheap all around from the visually unappealing "cock pit" dash to basic button layout for controls, and cloth on doors. Girlfriend just got 2010 mazda 3, its interior blows civics away, from tech to looks. Super fun to drive, even just around town, but really is not that fast which is good and keeps me out of trouble. Fuel is what u expect, but uses premium, if u care that much get a different car. Bang for your buck, cant beat it though, good looking, fun to drive, reliable, car has everything for a reasonable price... except interior, well I like the seats, they are comfy, I am also not a big guy though.

  • Valuable knowledge - 1991 Honda Civic

Very fun car to drive, has some good get up for 110hp. Tight cornering, has plently of space for such a small car. But i have not seen one of these last past 160000 miles, stock. do not buy if it has close to that...rear suspension gives, tranny starts to slip and scratch, ac/compressor goes out, clutch needs replacement alternator and timing belt as well. this may just be me but i have known 3 other people same year all sis with same problems...

  • Reliable Car - 1998 Honda Civic
    By -

This was my first Honda purchase. I own a 98 Civic EX with Auto. I bought this one with 66k. Before this I drove old American-Made beater cars. I am now a Honda buyer for life. My civic is responsive but it certainly is not a sportscar. I wish I would have purchased the 5sp. The only maintenence I have done is a tune up at 70k, Catalytic converter/exhause at 85k, new tires and battery. Its now at 92K and it rides great, ready to go another 100K.

  • Great Reliability, But dont expect... - 2002 Honda Civic

I have a 2002 Honda Civic LX coupe. Havent had a problem with it, and i refill the gas tank every 380 to 420 miles combined city and highway. Although my car is stick, it isnt a great performer. It is quiet, and has nice interior materials which is what matters most to me.
