Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

  • Disappointed by this model - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

I have owned Hondas for over 25 years. While the gas mileage of my 2008 Civic is good, the interior noise is irritating, the headrest not in a comfortable position, and after 22,000 miles I had to purchase 4 new tires. The passenger side automatic door lock stopped working and had to be replaced. As of 2012 the car has only 28,000 miles. My last Honda, a 1990 Acura Legend, was a great car and is still going strong. Never any problems with interior and few with engine. I wont buy a Civic again.

  • Great car...fun to drive! - 2012 Honda Civic
    By -

I just put 3,000 miles on my 2012 Honda Civic HF and I must say, this car is a joy to drive and its super easy to park. Visibility is wonderful. There is plenty of legroom/headroom even when my 63" son is sitting in the passenger seat. Everything in the car fits just right (Im 59" weight 225 lbs). I use math to figure out the gas mileage (miles driven divided by gallons) and Im getting 39.573 mpg on average with my first 3,000 miles. I drive 80% hwy, 20% city. I could not be more pleased. This is a conservative car (the styling) for conservative people who want to get from point A to point B without problems. I am very happy with my purchase!!

  • Confortable Ride but dull engine - 2012 Honda Civic
    By -

Ive been looking at a compact sedan to replace my Mazda 3 hatchback. My list is down to Hyundai Elantra and Honda Civic Sedan EX. I test drove a Civic today and the engine is very dull, no fun at all particularly for someone used to the peppy Mazda3 160 hp.

  • 96 Civic EX just wont die! - 1996 Honda Civic
    By -

I bought my 96 Civic EX in 04 with 60k miles on it, and have been driving it ever since. It now has 160k miles and they have been really hard miles. I will admit that I was young when I bought it and did not take care of this car the way I should have. 10k miles between oil changes, and really no regular maintenance. I have horses and I use this little car like a truck. It has never let me down. Besides tires, the only things I have had to replace on it are tie rods, belts and a starter. I really cant believe I didnt kill this car!

  • Great car - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

I bought this car new 1/2002. It has been the best i have ever owned. Great performance even though only 115hp. Good in all weather and rarely gave me any issues. Recently traded it in at 175k miles as the A/C went and i didnt want to pay to fix it though it would have went for another 100k miles. Great MPG and reliability. Traded it in for a BMW 328i which is what i always wanted but i felt so bad trading it in.

  • 10 years and 200,000 miles of faithful service - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

We bought our 2002 Honda EX Coupe (manual trans) new in December 2002, and 10 years later and almost 200,000 miles later, it is still a great car. We have had to make no repairs other than "wear-out" items (timing belts, tires, brakes, clutch, etc., maybe a distributor), and it runs as strong as the day we bought it with no end in sight. It has more pickup at normal speeds/revs than my S2000, handles great, and gets mpg figures well into the 30s.

  • From 2010 Mazda CX-7 to 2012 Civic EX-L - 2012 Honda Civic
    By -

My Mazda CX-7 had to go. It was requiring Premium fuel and only got on average 17mpg. I looked at a couple of other sedans, but I knew the Honda would be the best decision for me because of resale value and reliability. I got the Honda Civic Sedan EX-L and love it more and more every time that I drive it. The leather seats are extremely comfortable. The options available on the MID screen are incredible (set how you want your doors to auto-lock, set Trip A to reset when you fill up fuel, etc.). It took only $37 to fill up the tank the other day (it would have been $60 in the Mazda), I knew that I had made the right decision.

  • very reliable. - 1994 Honda Civic
    By -

i bought this car used at 176,000 ish miles for $2,300 in 2005, already 11 years old. its just had its last run now in 2012 at 312,000 miles!! honestly i could probably get it running for $50 but its had its time and im ready for something different. I have never had any major repairs done to this car. although ive always had some blower motor switch problem that i could have fixed but didnt. the blower finally quit nov 2011. if i had fixed my problem when it was small it would have been fine. i drove this car across country 900 mile journey 3 times and countless trips in range of 100 miles at a time. great long lasting car!

  • This car was great! but boring as ever! - 2005 Honda Civic
    By -

I owned this car about a year ago, and i tell you now, this is the best car out there....for reliability....It got me from point A to point B everytime. I was at 80k miles and never had a check engine light or any problem at all, and i ragged on that little engine..It got great gas mileage. I filled up every other week and i was a teenager at the time so i was everywhere pedal to the floor. But let me tell you before you buy it...I got to the point where this car was so boring for me...so slow for me that i went and bought a Volkswagen GTI..ya it breaks alot but its way more worth it then my civic ever was because i have fun everytime i drive! But Honda really is the best Company ever.

  • I will never buy a honda again! - 2008 Honda Civic
    By -

Like I said I will never buy a honda again... prior to this car I had a Pontiac Sunfire which was way less expensive!! And more reliable. I have gone through 4 sets of tires (97ks)... and ignored by my local Honda. Then contacted Honda Canada who told me that my local Honda said they only did a visual inspection of my tires for my wear!! Honda Canada as been less then helpful that I gave up. I am so mad at Honda I will never buy another Honda car sucks as bad as the service!!!!!!!
