Model Overview:

Since its launch in 1973, the Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact cars sold in America. Its success can be attributed in large part to its consistently high level of quality inside and out and its long-standing reputation for reliability and low running costs. Impressive fuel economy and engaging performance have also played a role in making the Civic a top choice for many Americans.

The competition has largely caught up with Honda, though, and there are now many excellent small cars vying for your attention. Still, we continue to recommend the Civic due to its ergonomic interior layout, wide range of models and high resale value. For small-car shoppers in search of a solid used vehicle, the Honda Civic is certainly a smart choice, as its long production run and many variants make it easy to find what you want.

Had a Civic 98 before....very happy with it so thought I would go for another one. Overall I am very happy with it. In- town gas mileage seems a little low but I have not had it long enough to evaluate accurately. Comfortable spacious. Hope it works for me as well as the last one!

My new Civic Touring is a great car with a lot to love and a few issues. The car handles beautifully, is very comfortable, a great ride and incredible fuel economy for a car that has decent power. The car also looks great. The issues: the audio system while it sounds great, is clunky to work with. The Honda sense features, such as adaptive cruise control and lane watch, are impressive and they do work, but the features need refinement. In particular, the automatic breaking during cruise control can be too abrupt and someone following too close behind is liable to rear end you in some situations. I accept the fact that some of the new technology needs refinement and since its all in the software it would be nice if Honda provided updates as they inevitably make improvements, but they probably wont (unlike Tesla). Its a woderful car so far and I have no reason to believe it wont be as amazingly reliable as my last Civic.

  • SO fun - 2007 Honda Civic

I owned a 2000 Honda Civic Si a couple of years ago and then decided to go SUV. After seeing the body style of the new 2007 Si, I knew I had to go back. This car is such an improvement from the old Si. Its gorgeous and zippy! I love the handling and the interior display. Honda did a great job at putting bells and whistles in this car for a decent price. It was hard to find one with a navi and I was told I would have to wait a month and I couldnt wait. Luckily I dont get lost too often to need one. This car is worth every cent.

  • Very nice, fun and comfortable - 2003 Honda Civic

I had a great buying experience with this car, and Edmunds TMV helped out too. I ended up paying Less than TMV. This car has been a blast to drive, even while still breaking in the engine. Ive had nothing but positive comments from friends and family. The only thing Ive noticed about this car so far is how the electric assist steering feels different, but its easy to get used to. I would highly recommend this car to someone who enjoys having a small peppy car. Its no drag racer, but its certainly quite fun to drive.

The car is like a rock! It takes bumps well and has a easy to use dash with large climate control dials. The radio has ok resption but the speakers have great sound quality. I would buy another. I coulnd not be happier.

  • One year old and 12,000 miles - 2007 Honda Civic

Overall a fine car for city and highway driving. Its all Honda, handling and acceleration remind me of previous Hondas Ive owned. Dealer service is OK - they didnt correctly diagnose a power steering noises the first time. A week later, another service writer, and description "morning sickness" got the problem fixed. A seal wasnt correctly seated which starved the pump of power steering fluid. New pump installed, two-day stay at dealer and its running great. MPG has increased to 37 from 34 before the repairs.

  • Aging Honda not all that bad . . . - 1998 Honda Civic
    By -

My wife and I purchased our Honda Civic LX new in February 1998. Aside from normal maintenance we also experienced the cracked exhaust manifold problem. It now has alomst 100,000 miles and that his, honestly, the only problem weve had. Interior layout leaves something to be desired and the cramped cup holders are weak compared to other more user friendly designs. Overall the car feels cheaply made. The four banger really struggles when climbing hills and the automatic transmission is kinda jumpy.

i saw this car at the ny auto show a couple of years ago and was sold! it is so fun to drive and for my 30 mile mountain road commute this is a must! i have 13,500 miles on it right now and have had no trouble at all. i am extremely hard on it and bounce the tach off of 8200 rpms daily! you cant kill these things! and the shift light is the best. it lets you keep your eyes on the road.this is my 5th honda product and i have never had a problem with any of them! synthetic oil is a must in these cars. if you are not using it now, get it!

  • Gas saving fun! - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

This is the 5th Civic I have owned over the past 20 years and the best one yet! I started out looking for a 35 MPG car and found one almost as fun to drive as the Miata I once owned! The smooth, quite acceleration, handling, and futuristic interior combined with fuel economy make this a great choice for under $19,000. Some parts a bit flimsy... interior door panels, rear seat construction, hard plastic dash top. Otherwise a great commuter that will make want to take the back roads on the way home!

  • Very happy with the 2008 Civic - 2008 Honda Civic

I recently decided to get rid of my VW Passat and get something more reliable. I loved how the Passat handled, but the Honda Civic seems just as good. My Passat was sluggish to get going and stopping quickly. The Civic is much peppier and easier to come to a quick stop. Great car for the money.
