This Year's Model Updates:

In typical Honda fashion, the Civic receives a number of minor changes this year in order to keep it fresh. For the coupe and sedan, there's new exterior styling, including restyling for the front and rear bumpers, hood, headlights and grille. Inside, the audio speakers have been upgraded, extra sound deadening material has been added and floor mats are now standard in the LX and EX. The LX trim has slightly bigger wheels this year (15 inches) and standard keyless entry. A new value package contains air conditioning, a CD player and a new center console. For the Si hatchback, there are new headlight and taillight designs, larger 16-inch wheels and flashier interior trim. Like the regular sedan, the Civic Hybrid has updated styling, standard floor mats and improved speakers. It also has a new interior console with an armrest, adjustable rear headrests and a manual driver-seat height adjuster. Finally, all 2004 Honda Civic sedans and coupes have a new seatbelt reminder system.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, roomy interior, reputation for durability and quality, impressive crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Top-of-the-line models are pricey, antilock brakes not available on DX or LX.

MY MODEL IS A 2002: 1ST YR: COMPRESSOR A/C REPLACED. 2ND YR: FRONT STRUTS REPLACED ALONG WITH HEADLIGHT BULB. 1ST & 2ND YR: DOORS RE-ALIGNED AS A RUBBING SCRATCH SOUND IS STILL HEARD TODAY AS THEY COULD NOT LOCATE AND ELIMINATE. I WILL BUY A TOYOTA CORROLA THE NEXT TIME!

Love the car for what it is, but if youre coming from an older generation of Civic be warned that the high-speed (55mph+) cornering is poor and sometimes scary. Tires grip well, but the chassis lists unpredictably on the soft rubber bushings and new front suspension. Gone is the predictable understeer, replaced with body sway and feelings of impending doom.

I love my car, its so reliable. I know now why there are tons of parents getting them for their kids. Its my first new car, so i pay my insurance, and gas, and its great. Even w/the gas prices going up, it doesnt faze me, my car is so good w/gas that i fuel up maybe once every two weeks or once a week when im really driving around. Ever since i got my Honda there are two words that i love to say w/my friends "Road Trip" and that means Las Vegas or where ever we want to go. By the way the trunk space is amazing you can fit 3 bodies in there!

I have enjoyed the quiet, reliable, comfortable performance of this car. I get 40 to 44 MPG gasoline during the cooler months. People comment on the beauty and the quiet performance of the engine. I am amused every time someone asks me, "You dont ever have to plug it in?"

i drive over 25000 miles a year, so saving an estimated $5,000 over 5 yrs in fuel costs. still getting 48.4 mpg, even though i beat on the car and average about 90mph on the freeway. yeah, im a speedfreak and the 85 horses still perform well at this consistant speed.

I have to admit to being skeptical. I live in a mountainous area, so performance can be an issue. Not so here. This car is perfect! I can pass other vehicles uphill at 55 mph and not break a sweat! Fun and powerful, this is a great car. With the cost saving hybrid technology, I recommend this car for everyone.

As a New York City native and one keenly aware of our over-dependence on Mideast oil, I turned my attention away from the Accord the dealership was showing me, to the sporty little Civic Hybrid that supposedly got 50 miles per gallon. I was one of the first in New Hampshire to purchase one, and Ive been delighted with it. Im 6 foot 2, and theres maybe 4 or 5 inches of extra headroom. Its a roomy, fast little car, and I get between 43 mpg and 52 mpg depending on the season and whether my snow tires are on or not. Pick-up is great, I love its looks, and its fun to drive. And I feel good that less of my money is going to Mideast oil sheiks.

  • Poor Assembly - Lots of Rattling - 2004 Honda Civic

Lots of rattling noise also found in my family 2003 Accord EX. Unusal vibration and noise (from disengaging the transmission locking mechanism) when changing from Park to Drive/Reverse suspecting weak emergency brake because the car rolls (only happens on a hill, dealers say its normal - 2003 Accord doesnt have this problem). Occasionally unusual engine vibration when starting the engine in the morning. Found puddle of water on all 4 doors side steps after car wash or rain (dealer says its normal). Need to stay between 60-70mph to get 26-28 mpg. Does anyone has the transmission and rattling problem? Please write on your review.

I just purchased this car a week after it was made, and I must say, Im normally a chevy guy, but Im highly ipressed with the Civic. Friend of mine had one and let me drive it, i couldnt believe the way this car moves for only having a 4-cylinder! I was reluctant at first, but after test driving it and dealing with the friendly salesman, I was quite happy with my purchase. They met every demand I had for purchasing the car ($100 over invoice, dashmat, oil changes etc.) Highly recommend for younger drivers, myself being a college student. The automatic transmission is convenient, but saps the power and "fun to drive" factor.

Fun car. My third Honda. Comfortable ride and seating even at 62". Transmission is smooth but was a bit of a reach at first compared to other Honda setups. Had a leak in AC that took four visits to find but was treated well. Almost purchased an RSX but glad I didnt. Payed well under invoice using edmunds information.
